The paper presents control performance of a magnetorheological(MR) fluid-based haptic knob which is applicable to in-vehicle comfort functions. As a first step, MR fluid-based haptic knob is devised to be capable of both rotary and push motions with a single device. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to minimize a reciprocal of control torque using finite element analysis. The proposed haptic knob is then manufactured and its field-dependent torque is experimentally evaluated. Subsequently, in-vehicle comfort functions are constructed in virtual environment and make them communicate with the haptic knob. Control performances such as reflection force are experimentally evaluated via simple feed-forward control strategy.
High precision step motor using Terfenol-D linear actuators is proposed and its performance is tested. Four Terfenol-D linear actuators are set up perpendicular to the rotor and saw-tooth current signals are applied on the actuators. It was found that the rotation angle is increased as the excitation current, the inertia of the rotor, and the contact force between the rotor and the push device are increased. The rotation angle per step of $0.001^{\circ}$ and blocking torque of 0.2Nm are achieved. The effect of the time delay between the excitation signals is also investigated.
This paper summarizes the results of push-out test specimens with a new type of shear connector called ㄱ type perfobond rib. This connector is a flat steel plate with a number of holes punched through and strengthen rib's head part. According to experiment result, ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector appeared that resistance force is increased than stud shear connector by $108\%$ and perfobond rib shear connector by $26\%$. The results obtained indicate that the perfobond rib connector is a viable alternative to the headed studs. An appreciable improvement in the shear capacity of the connection was observed when additional reinforcing bars were passed through the perfobond rib holes. For composite beams with concrete filled steel tubes, ㄱ type perfobond shear connectors exhibit adequate ductility and substantially higher capacities.
The concept of a new linear motor that uses piezo-stack actuator is demonstrated. The working principle is far different from the conventional inchworm motor. This motor is based on the self-moving cell concept. The linear motor has three cells and each cell is constructed with one piezo-stack actuator and a shell structure. A cell train is constructed by connecting these cells and the cell train is fitted into a guide way with a proper interference. The cell train moves along the guide way, by activating each cell in succession. The moving motion of the motor is tested. Since this linear motor uses piezo-stack actuator with unified clamping cell, it can produce fast speed, high resolution and large push force.
To cope with quest to improve the fuel economy and vehicle performance, Continuously Variable Transmission with Changing the speed ratio between minimum and maximum ratio by infinite step, is more efficient than conventional multi-ratio transmission. In this paper, to investigate a specific CVT shift ratio diagram and CVT shift characteristics, CVT vehicle was tested on the proving ground and chassis dynamometer. The test results are as follows; CVT can obtain the excellent vehicle performance and fuel economy changing the shift ratio by infinite step, without rapid change of engine revolution and driving force. And CVT can set up a special shift range that obtains not only the engine brake effect but also the maximum speed driving.
A typical clutch system for automotive manual transmissions transfers hydraulic pressure generated by driver's pedal manipulation to the clutch diaphragm spring. The foot effort history during the period of push is different than the period of the clutch pedal's return. The effort or load difference is called clutch foot effort hysteresis. It is known that the hysteresis is caused by friction. The frictional force and moment are produced between various component contact points such as between the rubber seal and the inner wall inside the hydraulic cylinder and between the diaphragm spring and the pressure plate, etc. Understanding the clutch pedal foot effort hysteresis is essential for a clutch release system design and analysis. The dynamic model for a clutch release system is developed for the foot effort hysteresis prediction and a simulation analysis is performed to propose a tool for analysing a clutch system.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the vibration attenuation effects of the different type of gloves and drilling mode while operating a light-weighted powered hand drill. For the experimental design, five different kinds of glove(barehanded cotton partly coated anti-vibration, and open-finger vibration glove) two types of push force level(100N and 200N) and two types of drilling mode(impact and non-impulsive) were considered. Six healthy male subjects were employed to drive screws into a vertically mounted marble plate with a powered hand drill in a randomly ordered experimental conditions. The findings of this study are summarized as follows; (1) It was found that the best combination of overall BMS transmissibility was using impact drilling mode with anti-vibration glove among evaluated experimental conditions (2) The wearing open finger vibration glove in mid-frequency level and anti-vibration glove with impact drill in high-frequency were the best in the result from mean corrected transmissibility equation of ISO 10819.
In the design of concrete filled composite columns, it is assumed that the load transfer between the steel tube and concrete core has to be achieved by the natural bond. However, it is important to investigate the mechanisms of shear transfer due to the possibility of steel-concrete interface separation. This paper deals with the contribution of headed stud bolt shear connectors and angles to improve the shear resistance of the steel-concrete interface using push-out tests. In order to determine the influence of the shear connectors, altogether three specimens of concrete filled composite column were tested: one without mechanical shear connectors, one with four stud bolt shear connectors and one with four angles. The experimental results showed the mechanisms of shear transfer and also the contribution of the angles and stud bolts to the shear resistance and the force transfer capacity.
