  • The purpose of this study was to examine variables affecting fashion consumer ethics. 202 consumers living in Seoul and its suburb participated in this study. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, factor analysis and multiple regression for this study. As the results, consumer ethics was classified into three factors such as 'Purposely illegal behavior', 'Tacitly illegal behavior' and 'Socialized illegal behavior' factors. Second, regarding ethics judgement, machiavellianism only had affected consumer ethics. Results showed that 'Tacitly illegal behavior' and 'Socialized illegal behavior' of consumer ethics affected consumer ethics on Fashion Products. Finally, results of multiple regression revealed that psychological factors such as compensatory purchasing, materialism and propensity of religion accounted for 19% of the explained variance in fashion consumer ethics. Based on these results, a fashion educational program about consumer ethics related to fashion industry would be suggested.

The purposes of this study were to examine adolescents' attitudes toward counterfeits, their ethical beliefs, and reference group influence on purchasing counterfeits. Two hundred thirteen high school students in Seoul and subside, South Korea, voluntarily participated in the study. As the results, approximately 30% of the adolescents had purchased counterfeits. Also, the adolescent buyers of counterfeits tended to purchase counterfeit goods as more alternative of genuine products than non-buyers, and did have more positive feeling toward counterfeits than non-buyers of counterfeits. In addition, adolescent buyers of counterfeits had lower consumer ethics than non-buyers. Finally, adolescents who have purchased counterfeits were more influenced by their peer group than those who have not. The findings would benefit marketers and educators in understanding of adolescents' purchasing counterfeit products, and contribute to develop strategies regarding counterfeits. Based on these results, some strategies for marketers and educators would be suggested.

  • This study compares the ethical inclination regarding consumer misbehaviors from two countries with contrasting cultural characteristics. National samples of South Korean and American adults provided their perceptions of the appropriateness of 12 ethically questionable consumer actions. The scenarios ranged from illegal actions, such as fraudulently inflating one's losses when filing an insurance claim to legal, yet questionable, actions such as purchasing an item that the buyer recognizes as having been mispriced. The 12 scenarios exhibited a wide range of mean responses in both countries, thereby supporting the oft-stated premise that consumer ethics is a situational phenomenon. Findings indicate not only where the cultures diverge but also where they converge towards a degree of congruence. Plausible explanations for differences based upon cultural dynamics are provided.

  • Global fast fashion brands have been popular and most of them have entered the Korean market. With their success, Korean apparel companies launched domestic fast fashion brands; however, recently they have become fiercely competitive, and consumers are demanding better design and quality and cheaper prices than before. The purpose of this study is to explore consumer purchasing behavior of the global as well as domestic fast fashion brands sold in Korea and to suggest marketing strategies for the brands sold in Korea. The study includes interviewing 61 Korean consumers to ask about their purchasing behavior and experiences. This study found four themes from these in-depth interviews: 1) demand of product glocalization which considers both globalization and localization for better style, quality, and assortment plan, 2) satisfaction with the reasonable price range of fast fashion brands but dissatisfaction with price discrimination among countries, 3) importance of easy, comfortable, and convenient accessibility to fast fashion brands, and 4) preference for good brand reputation related to corporate social responsibility(CSR) and nationality. From these four themes, this study developed the four elements of the marketing mix: product, price, accessibility, and reputation to adapt to a new marketing environment that emphasizes the development of information technology, consumer-centric marketing, and corporate ethics. The findings of this research could contribute useful information to both global and domestic fashion companies as well as consumers.

  • The present study was conducted to analyze high school students' attitudes toward jean brand counterfeits relative to their self-esteem and self-consciousness. The study was implemented through a normative-descriptive survey using questionnaire. The sample consisted of 605 high school students from 6 high schools located in Seoul. Data were analyzed by mean, cluster analysis, regression, ANOVA and Duncan's test. The results were as follows: (1) As a whole, the mean values of preference and purchasing intentions toward counterfeit jeans were 2.99 and 2.83, respectively, indicating a slightly low average on the 5-point Likert scale. The results indicated that 45.5% of respondents have more than one item of counterfeit jeans. (2) Differences were found in the level of self-esteem and public self-consciousness among the three groups, who were classified by the level of purchasing intention and preference toward counterfeit jeans. Among the three groups (high/middle/low), the group having low purchasing intention and preference toward counterfeit jeans showed higher self-esteem and public self-consciousness than the other two groups. (3)Regression analysis showed that the self-esteem and public self-consciousness of high school students have an impact on the amount of purchasing of counterfeit jeans. (4)In the process of developing effective policies against the jean brand counterfeits market, it should be fully considered that high school students' purchasing intentions regarding jean brand counterfeits are related to their self-consciousness. It could be said that the policies followed to eliminate counterfeits and to enhance the consumer ethics of high school students will be more effective when those policies are accompanied by efforts to form their sound self-consciousness, especially in the areas of self-esteem and public self-consciousness.

  • Recently, there has been a change in consumer culture. The paradigm is changing from a consumption model that used to emphasize rationality to an ethical consumption model that focuses on sustainability. Such a change in consumption patterns has also been seen in the cosmetics industry, but studies to empirically assess this trend are incomplete. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to empirically identify the impact of ethical consumption proprieties on attitudes and purchasing intentions for ethical cosmetics. To achieve the aim of this study, 506 adult women residing in Korea were selected as subjects and surveyed. To identify the demographic characteristics of the study participants, a technical statistical analysis and frequency analysis were conducted. To check the validity and reliability of the measuring tools, an exploratory factor analysis was performed, and the Cronbach's α factor was calculated. The analysis method was analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 and the Amos 25.0 statistical analysis programs. The results of this study are as follows. First, ethical spending tendencies had a positive impact on attitudes toward ethical cosmetics. Specifically, interest in ethical issues, altruism, and business ethics perception have had a positive impact on attitudes toward ethical cosmetics. However, consumer effectiveness had no significant impact on attitudes toward ethical cosmetics. Second, attitudes toward ethical cosmetics had a positive effect on purchasing intentions. This study found that for the spread of ethical cosmetics and ethical consumption trends varied according to the age and that attitudes toward ethical cosmetics and differences in purchasing intentions should be kept in mind. It also showed that attitudes toward ethical cosmetics affect purchasing intentions. The results of this study suggested that the analysis of adult women, the main consumers of cosmetics, by age was meaningful for finding the factors for growth in the macroscopic ethical cosmetics industry and that the industry could raise its ethical awareness. If such tasks are systematically established, ethical cosmetics are thought to be able to actively solve social problems and lead a mature cosmetics industry.
