Purpose - The development of technologies lead the volume of sale on online market increase but an off-line shopping center is still a core component in the omni-channel strategy. It is generally thought that high-level retailtainment on brick and mortar store affects purchase intentions positively, but some previous studies dispute that and have reported that retailtainment does not affect purchase intentions. So we have studied the additional factors' effect - the nature of purchase and utility - with retailtainment. Research design, data, and methodology - There are 8 treatment groups which were assigned by the method of retailtainment (high vs. low), nature of purchase (essential vs. non-essential), and utility (acquisition vs. transaction). A total of 240 subjects (office workers = 163, 68%; undergraduates = 77, 32%; average age = 30s; female = 39%) were divided into groups and exposed to one of the eight scenarios. Participant's purchase intention was the dependent, and ANOVA and L-matrix were used to analyze for main and interactive effects between factors. Results - First, the main effect and interactive effect between retailtainment and the nature of purchase are significant. We also found that the contrast between essential and non-essential at low-level retailtainment is higher than that of high-level retailtainment. Second, in the case of retailtainment and utility, transaction utility under high-level retailtainment affects purchase intentions positively. Third, between the nature of the purchase and utility, the main effect of the nature of purchase and the interactive effect is significant, but the main effect of utility is not significant. In the case of non-essential goods, the purchase intention was high when transaction utility was provided but in the case of essential goods, acquisition utility increased purchase intentions. Finally, when transaction utility is given, purchase intentions of essential goods increase under low retailtainment, and the purchase intentions of non-essential goods increase under high retailtainment. Conclusions - When customers buy essential goods, discounts decrease purchase intentions. During the season for bargain sales, purchase intentions increase when retailtainment of essential goods is low, and retailtainment of non-essential goods is high.
World Wide Web(Web) supports bi-directional communication between corporations and consumers. In the year of Electronic Commerce, close relationships with consumers are more emphasized for corporations. Nowadays, corporations compete with corporations which are located in whole world through the media called Internet. In this competitive environment, to attract consumers' attentions, it is required to develope corporations' Web sites in the way to stimulate consumers' purchase intentions. To verify the elements needed to stimulate consumers' purchase intentions factors which influence consumers' purchase intentions were analyzed. Adaptation, shopping convenience and assurance-reliability were found to be positive factors for consumers' purchase intentions. It was also found that consumers' purchase intentions in electronic commerce market are influenced by previous shopping experiences. Consumers who have previous shopping experiences are mainly influenced by good delivery systems and shopping environments while who have no experiences are influenced by consumers' risks such as performance risk and personal and privacy risk when they intend to purchase products or services.
Purpose: This study explores the impact of interactivity and professionalism on consumer trust and purchase intentions in live-streaming distribution channels, explicitly focusing on Shopee Live in Indonesia. While prior research has examined trust as a general mediator between live-streaming features and consumer behavior, this study focuses on the distinct effects of trust in sellers versus in platforms. Utilizing the S-O-R framework, this research provides a novel exploration of how these trust dimensions act as an intermediary between live-streaming features and purchase intentions. Research Methods: Data were collected from 373 Shopee Live users who purchased fashion products via online surveys. The research employs Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the proposed model and hypotheses. Results: Findings reveal that interactivity positively affects trust in both sellers and platforms but does not directly influence purchase intentions. Conversely, professionalism directly impacts purchase intentions and enhances trust. Trust in sellers and platforms significantly mediates the relationship between interactivity, professionalism, and purchase intentions. Specifically, trust in sellers substantially affects purchase intentions more than trust in platforms. Conclusion: The study concludes that while interactivity builds essential trust, professionalism directly drives purchase intentions, highlighting the importance of professional conduct in live-streaming distribution channel contexts.
This research investigates the differences in sportswear purchasing behavior between global consumers in Korea and China. Korean and Chinese consumers showed significant differences in purchasing behavior. Brand personality, perceived price, and brand loyalty showed a significant, positive relationship with purchase intentions across both cultural groups. The results identified two lifestyle categories for Korean and Chinese consumers: Adventurer and Follower. The consumers of each lifestyle group have significantly different views regarding brand equity and purchase intentions. Several marketing implications are discussed in this paper.
As consumers' interest in social responsibility (SR) has greatly increased in the last two decades, a growing body of academic research has examined the influence of consumers' environmental consciousness on their attitudes and purchase intentions toward environment-friendly apparel products. Use of environment-friendly shopping bags (EFSB; recycled and reusable bags) is an example of how apparel retailers engage in SR. However, little research has examined consumers' perceptions and their responses to the use of EFSB. To fill this research gap, this study examined the impact of young consumers' perceptions of EFSB and environmental consciousness on their attitudes and purchase intentions toward apparel retailers using EFSB. An online survey was conducted for data collection. A convenience sample of 212 college students was obtained from a large mid-Southern university in the U.S. A simple linear regression analysis was conducted to test all hypotheses. Results showed that young consumers' perceptions of EFSB positively influenced their environmental consciousness and their attitudes toward apparel retailers that use EFSB, which led to purchase intentions toward the retailers. Findings confirmed that young consumers placed a great degree of importance on EFSB and, therefore, would purchase apparel from retailers that use recycled or reusable shopping bags. These findings imply that providing EFSB is important in enhancing positive attitudes and purchase intentions toward apparel retailers.
In this study, we conducted an empirical analysis using structural equation modeling (SEM) by distributing questionnaires to 208 Chinese tourists who constitute the largest proportion of foreign tourists visiting South Korea. The survey was conducted in a face to face (FTF) manner with the aim to contribute to globalization of Korean cuisine through comprehensive analysis of the effects of preference characteristics of Korean wave dramas on the relationship among images, attitudes, and purchase intentions for Korean cuisine. The main actor characteristics among the preference characteristics of Korean wave dramas had a significant effect on the attitudes and purchase intentions for Korean cuisine. However, the thematic characteristics among the preference characteristics of Korean wave dramas did not have a significant effect on the purchase intentions for Korean cuisine; in addition, the production characteristics did not have a significant effect on the attitudes and purchase intentions for Korean cuisine. The eco-friendly and health images of Korean cuisine had a significant effect on the purchase intentions for Korean cuisine, and the attitudes toward Korean cuisine significantly affected the purchase intentions for Korean cuisine. Based on the results of this study, it is considered necessary to continuously publicize Korean cuisine through Korean wave dramas to build positive attitudes toward Korean cuisine through enhanced images of Korean cuisine.
The purpose of this paper is to develop and test a conceptual model of purchase intentions, positive emotion, and e-servicescape that is defined as the online environment factors that exist during service delivery. Survey research method was used to gather data regarding consumers' perceptions of e-servicescape. Surveys were administered to 681 college students who experienced purchasing fashion products on the Internet. The results showed that e-servicescapes perceived by fashion consumers were composed of three dimensions: (1) Aesthetic appeal, (2) Ambient conditions, and (3) Layout & functionality. These dimensions of e-servicescape influenced consumers to lead positive emotions and purchase intentions. Additionally, positive emotions constituted a key variable for the purchase intention of fashion products during online exchange. The study revealed that consumers' interpretations of online environments exerted a powerful influence over positive emotion and purchase intentions. Also, it strongly endorsed the view that the purchase intentions of customers were linked to the extent to which they feel positive emotions by the e-service provider. This study provides insights into how consumers' interpretations of e-servicescape affect their subsequent positive emotions and ultimately their intentions to purchase. The findings of this study also have numerous implications for both services managers and internet developers related to fashion products.
This study developed a structural model to examine the relationships among consumer traits, self-brand connections, and purchase intentions for local fashion brands under "Guochao" consumption in China. An online survey with a self-administered questionnaire was undertaken through Chinese SNS tools to collect the data. A total of 276 usable responses were obtained from Chinese consumers who are residents in China. More females(n=174, +63%) than males (n=102, 37%) participated, and they were aged from 18 to 45 years old. The measurement model was confirmed to be reliable and valid. In the estimated structural model, the consumer traits of ethnocentrism and cultural affinity positively affected the self-brand connection, leading to purchase intentions for the local fashion brands. Specifically, the ethnocentrism factor indirectly affected the purchase intentions by mediating the self-brand connection, while the cultural affinity factor had significant direct effects on purchase intentions. Thus, a partial mediating effect of self-brand connection was found in the relationship between the consumer traits(ethnocentrism and cultural affinity) and purchase intentions of local fashion brands in the cultural "Guochao" consumption context. This study provides insights into extending the cultural theory of ethnocentrism relevant to self-brand connections and discusses the managerial implications for developing strategic global branding in the Chinese fashion markets.
Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the heuristic type of consumers affecting purchase decision making and the intention of shopping value in their relationship to derive mobile social commerce purchase promotion plans. Research design, data, and methodology - A research model was constructed to relate the mediating effect of shopping value between heuristic types and purchase intentions. A total of 233 valid questionnaires were used for analysis for users using mobile social commerce. The statistical program used SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0, and correlation analysis, regression analysis, and 3-step parametric regression analysis were used for the analysis. Results - The results of the analysis showed that representativeness heuristics, availability heuristics, adjustment heuristics, and affect heuristics had a statistically significant effect on the utilitarian value and the hedonic value. On the other hand, affect heuristics among the heuristic types were found to have the greatest influence not only on the utilitarian value but also on the hedonic value. The two types of shopping value were found to be partially mediated between representativeness heuristics and purchase intentions, between adjustment heuristics and purchase intentions, and fully mediated between availability heuristics and purchase intentions, affect heuristics and purchase intentions. Conclusions - These findings suggest that mobile social commerce companies should check in advance how consumer heuristic types affect purchase intentions. In particular, affect heuristics are caused by consumers' emotional mood such as mood or external stimulus being more important to decision making than rational decision making. Therefore, the result of this study suggests that it can be an important factor to secure the competitiveness that the potential customers who access to use mobile social commerce can feel enough fun and enjoyment in the platform provided by the company. It is also worth paying attention to the utilitarian and hedonic values perceived by consumers. This is because the judgment regarding the economic, convenience and important information provided by the mobile social commerce users affects the purchase intention through the trust of the information, past use, and shopping experience displayed on the mobile social commerce platform.
The global volume of luxury fashion industries has continuously grown with the influx of young consumers in 20s and 30s, yet little research explores luxury consumption patterns of the young consumers. Given the crucial importance of socio-psychological shopping values in luxury, the current study explores the effects of self-congruity and functional congruity on purchase intentions of luxury fashion brands, and the moderation of self-construal in the mechanisms. An online study was conducted through Google Forms with a total of 227 Korean respondents of actual luxury consumption experiences. The data was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. The results of the study reveal the following: (i) Among the three factors of self-congruity, ideal and social self-congruity factors have significant positive effects on purchase intentions; (ii) actual self-congruity has no statistical effect on purchase intnetions of luxury fashion brands; (iii) functional congruity has a significant positive effect on purchase intentions of luxury fashion brands; (iv) no moderation effect of self-construal was found in the relationships between the three factors of self-congruity and purchase intentions; (v) the moderation effect of independent self-construal is significant but negative in the relationship between functional congruity and purchase intentions; (vi) the effect of intdependent self-construal is not found to be significant in the relationship between functional congruity and purchase intentions. Managerial and theoretical implications are discussed.
