  • We are concerned with a long-term replenishment contract for the ARIMA demand process in a supply chain. The chain is composed of one supplier, one buyer and consumers for a product. The replenishment contract is based upon the well-known (s, Q) policy but allows us to contract future replenishments at a time with a price discount. Due to the larger forecast error of future demand, the buyer should keep a higher level of safety stock to provide the same level of service as the usual (s, Q) policy. However, the buyer can reduce his purchase cost by ordering a larger quantity at a discounted price. Hence, there exists a trade-off between the price discount and the inventory holding cost. For the ARIMA demand process, we present a model for the contract and an algorithm to find the number of the future replenishments. Numerical experiments show that the proposed algorithm is efficient and accurate.

  • By committing to a long-term replenishment contract, buyers can purchase a product at a lower price from a supplier who is less pressured to find new customers due to the long-term contract and can charge a discounted price. We develop an analytical model from the buyer's perspective to investigate a capacity reservation contract. We are considering the system with a single supplier and a buyer. The buyer can purchases any desired amount from a spot market at a higher price in addition to the contracted amount. For such a system, we propose an algorithm to derive the optimal contract terms. The result of computational experiments shows that the algorithm finds the global optimum solution in a resonable amount of time.

  • This paper considers a supply chain consisting of a manufacturer under the cap-and-trade emissions regulation and a permit supplier. We study joint production quantity and investment in reducing permit production cost decisions for centralized and decentralized supply chains. We formulate two supply chain contracts with aims to coordinate the decentralized supply chain; wholesale price contract and cost-sharing contract. Under the cost-sharing contract, the manufacturer shares a part of the investment in reducing permit production cost and then is allowed to purchase emission permit at a lower price. We analytically find that the proposed cost-sharing contract with reasonable parameters can coordinate the supply chain whereas the wholesale price contract is not desirable to achieve the system-wide profit. Numerical example is followed to support the analysis.

  • This study aimed to classify the lifestyles of 1020 college students, and to analyze the effect of the lifestyles on the usages of credit card, price perception, purchasing satisfaction and the number of new clothing. The number of credit cards, total payment of credit cards and the attitude to credit card were different by the 7 clusters of college students, but the frequency of credit card use, the amount of cash service and arrear ages were not different. The perception to the apparel price, purchasing satisfaction, and the degree of clothing purchasing varied according to the lifestyle clusters. For example, 6th cluster being highest in the pursuit of appearance showed the highest amount of credit cards usage significantly and tendency of highest arrearage, and used credit cards mostly in clothing purchase.

  • In this paper we study the delivery policy of internet bookstores and recommend the improved policy to increase customer satisfaction and sales revenue. We classify customers into two, the price-sensitive and the delivery time-sensitive, and develop a new shipping method, the unhurried shipping, for the price-sensitive who are reluctant to pay shipping fee for the small purchase but willing to wait extra time for the ordered goods. The customers could get discount on shipping fee by the unhurried shipping but have to accept the longer delivery lead-time. We investigate the possible ways to reduce costs with the prolonged delivery time and show that some costs regarding shipmentand inventory could be saved in order to make up for additional shipping costs for the price-sensitive.

  • The objective of this was to improve a transportation cost relation between Central Distribution Centers(CDCs) and Regional Distribution Centers(RDCs), to control inventory cost concerning safety stock for each service level, by reviewing distribution steps connecting CDCs and RDCs under the price discount. It was also to examine and compare operating costs for the following two alternative suggestions for setting the service standard as a counter measure for a stock-out of the distribution network system management. First, provision by dispersing the safety stock to the CDCs and RDCs; and second, exclusive provision of the safety stock only to the RDCs. The cost comparison analysis was made for each category of purchase costs, regular transportation costs, express transportation costs, and inventory holding costs.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze whether the disposition effect, a behavioral finance theory, exists in decision-making for ship investment. A case study was adopted as the research methodology, and data obtained through narrative and questionnaire responses on decision-making for ship sales were analyzed from a behavioral finance perspective. The analysis found that the disposition effect had an impact on the decision to sell a vessel. The narrative responses revealed that some shipping companies tended to miss the opportunity to maximize ship sale profit because they sold their vessels readily and quickly before the price of the vessels had risen sufficiently. The questionnaire survey results indicated that the majority of the survey respondents chose to sell a ship whose price had risen slightly from the initial purchase price. Managers in charge of ship investment should examine whether the disposition effect exists in their decision-making when selling a ship.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the need for school uniform recycling and to review the school uniform recycling-related education. 231 female high school students were asked to answer regarding the wearing state of school uniform and their satisfaction level. 10 subjects in middle school technology/home economy were evaluated. As the result, the students wore 1~2 pieces of school uniform, which showed that it was hard to keep them clean by washing them often. The satisfaction level of school uniform was not high, The lowest item was the price. Therefore, to increase the satisfaction level of the school uniforms and also to increase the sanitary level of the school uniforms, it was advisable to purchase a recycled school uniform at cheaper prices to have an extra set. For a vitalization of the recycled school uniforms, the middle school technology/home economy subjects were reviewed. In the topic of "clothing acquisition plan and purchase", the themes of planned purchase, overconsumption of clothing and environmental pollution were discussed and included preferable behaviors for disposal. The topic of "clothing manufacturing and recycling" listed recycling the clothes that are not worn or exchanging them with neighbors as well as suggesting methods to illicit environment-friendly behaviors and carrying them out. However, some textbooks only briefly explained the methods of recycling and more detailed and practical methods need to be suggested in the curriculum. In addition, the contents regarding the environment in the clothing topic need to be supplemented more and more changes, such as related education plans or data development, are required. • The purpose of this study was to analyze market opportunities for Korean image fashion products, focusing on adolescents. In other words, preference, purchase intention and gift intention of adolescents on Korean image fashion products were analyzed. For this study, four stimuli which reflect Korean image were chosen. We measured design evaluation and adolescent fashion innovativeness. The subjects for this study were 219 high school students. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Duncan test, cross-tabulation, correlation analysis, multiple regression. The more innovative the subject is, the higher the clothing purchase frequency and the purchase price are. Also, high-innovative group showed that they like Korean image fashion products more than low one. Product attributes such as prettiness and newness significantly influenced purchase intention for their own use and for others as a gift. In conclusion, when related marketers and scholars provide Korean image products that target adolescents, they should try to make those products more sophisticated and modern.

  • This study classified respondents by consumption value and analyzed differences in the purchase behavior of men's suits among consumption value groups. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and analysis of variance were conducted in order to analyze research problems. Factor analysis results showed that male consumption values included safety-oriented value, individuality-oriented value, others-oriented value, pleasure-oriented value, aesthetic-oriented value, low price-oriented value, community-oriented value, utility-oriented value, innovation-oriented value, and self-expression oriented value. The study divided respondents into personal satisfaction pursuit group, beauty & functionality pursuit group, individuality pursuit group, and others-oriented & low cost preference group according to consumption value. There were significant differences in selection criteria for men's suit (product image, physical properties of product, and brand name), selection reasons of brand (fashion & ostentation, individuality, and refinement), store attributes (store environment/salesperson service, reputation/additional service, and product assortment/shopping convenience).
