A gerotor pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications. Especially the pump is an essential machine element of an automotive engine to feed lubricant oil. The subject of this paper is the theoretical analysis of the internal lobe pump which is a particular type of positive displacement pump. The main components of the pump are rotors; usually the outer rotor profile is characterized by lobes with circular shape, while the inner rotor profile is determined as conjugate as the outer rotor profile. For this reason the topic presented here is the definition of the geometry of the rotors starting from the design parameters. The choice of these parameters is subject to some limitations in order to avoid cusp and loop between rotors. And the integrated system which is composed of three main modules has been developed through AutoLISP & Visual Basic and CAD considering various design parameters. It generates automatically an designed model for a general type of a gerotor pump and allows us to calculate two performances indexes commonly used for the study of positive displacement pumps: the flow rate and flow rate irregularity. Results obtained using the system enable the designer and manufacturer of oil pump to be more efficient in this field.
Propeller type pump has been widely used for pumping water in agricultural and manufacturing industry. Since a propeller type pump contains a screw impeller inside a circular casing, the numerical analysis becomes complex. However, the accurate prediction of viscous flow is essential for computing hydrodynamic performances. To analysis the flow and the performance of the propeller type pump, the present work has solved 3D incompressible RANS equations on the multiblocked grid. From the present calculation, small amount of flow separation was shown near hub and the flow was recovered to nearly uniform inflow after one diameter downstream. Torque and thrust coefficient were computed and compared with experiments.
This paper presents the steady-state performance analysis of the first stage of a multistage centrifugal pump, composed of a shrouded-impeller, a vaned-diffuser and a return-channel, using the commercially available computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, ANSYS CFX. The detailed flow fields in the vaned-diffuser with outlet in its side wall and the return-channel are investigated by the CFD code adopted in the present study. The effect of the vaned-diffuser with a downstream crossover bend and the corresponding return-channel on the overall hydrodynamic performance of the first stage pump has also been demonstrated over the normal operating conditions. The predicted hydrodynamics for the diffusing components herein could provide useful information to match the inlet blade angle of the next stage impeller for improving the multistage pump performances.
In the present study, performances of fuel cell driven compound source hybrid heat pump system applied to a large community building are simulated. Among several renewable energy sources, ground, river, sea, and waste water sources are chosen as available alternative energies. The performance and energy cost are varied with the hybrid heat pump sources. The system design and operation process appropriate for the surrounding circumstance guarantee the high benefit of the heat pump system applied to a large community building. Th system is driven by fuel cell system instead of the late-night electricity due to the advantages of the low energy cost and waste heat with high temperature.

Vertical closed-loop ground source heat pump systems(GSHP) have been installed widely in Korea since it can extract moderate temperature level of geothermal heat in a small area. As a ground heat exchanger, a vertical closed-loop type with brine circulation is mostly preferred since it is simple and less harmful to ground environment. However, it requires a secondary heat exchange loop between the refrigerant in a heat pump and the brine. By adding a geothermal heat exchanger in the secondary heat exchange loop, circulation pumps should be attached and the temperature difference between refrigerant and ground is increased, which are important parts of performance degradation. In this paper, annual and seasonal performances of direct expansion(DX) geothermal heat pump were estimated mathematically as an alternative of classical indirect geothermal heat pump based on the annual performance evaluation. As a result, DX geothermal heat pump showed 43% higher annual performance than the classical U-tube geothermal heat pump.

A low NPSH and high pressure fuel pump has been designed for a turbopump system. The fuel pump has an axial inducer and a centrifugal impeller. A meanline method has been established for the preliminary design and performance prediction of pumps at design or off-design points. KeRC carried out a model testing of the fuel pump with water as a working fluid at the reduced speed. Predicted performances by the method are shown to be in good agreement with experimental results for cavitating and non-cavitating conditions. The established meanline method can be used for the performance prediction and preliminary design of high speed pumps which have a inducer, impeller and volute. In the current study, the three dimensional viscous flow in the fuel pump was investigated through numerical computation. A modified design of the fuel pun was generated to improve pump performance by utilizing CFD results. The modified fuel pump was experimentally tested by ROTEM and KARI. The measured non-cavitating and cavitating performance showed a good agreement with designed performance.

In this study, a simulation model for a $CO_2$ heat pump using vapor injection was developed and validated. It was used to predict the improvement of the heating performance of the $CO_2$ heat pump at various operating conditions. The simulation results showed consistent results with the measured data. The heating performances of the vapor injection and non-injection heat pumps were compared by varying the outdoor temperature and compressor frequency. The heating capacity of the vapor injection heat pump was 40% higher than that of the non-injection heat pump at the outdoor temperature of $-8^{\circ}C$. The performance of the vapor injection heat pump was consistently higher than that of the non-injection heat pump even when the compressor frequency was reduced to 35 Hz at the outdoor temperature of $-3^{\circ}C$.
The rotor of a turbomolecular drag pump is generally made of an aluminum alloy. Its surface finish is affected by various processes that the rotor itself undergoes during the manufacturing phase. The impact of different surface finishes on the pumping performances of a turbomolecular pump has been mainly investigated by Sawada et al [1]. The present work aims to broaden the previous bibliographic study to the drag stages of a turbomolecular pump by testing the impact of different surface finishes on the compression ratio of the pump. Experimental tests have been made focusing on two processes: the corundum sandblasting and the glass microspheres shot-peening. Both the processes flatten and/or physically remove EDM melted spheres; in particular, blasted surfaces obtained by glass shot-peening are generally smoother than surfaces obtained by corundum sandblasting. In order to characterize the surface texture left by such processes, preliminary surface roughness measurements have been made on the drag rotor disks of several pumps. The experimental tests conducted on both sandblasted and shot-peened rotors confirms previous results obtained on the turbo stages by Sawada et al. [1], showing that the average roughness of the surface has an impact on the compression ratio of the pump; in particular, an increment in the surface roughness causes a corresponding increment in the compression ratio of the pump and vice versa. For the tested pumps, the higher surface roughness gives a factor of increment of about 2 on the measured hydrogen maximum compression ratio of the pump.

This paper presents a high-efficiency design technique for developing the serialized models of a single-channel pump based on the diameter, flow rate and head as the main performance parameters. The variation in pump performance by changing of the single-channel pump geometry was predicted based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Numerical analysis was conducted by solving three-dimensional steady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model. The tendencies of the hydraulic performance depending on the pump geometry scale were analyzed with the fixed rotational speed. These performances were expressed and evaluated as the functionalization for designing the serialized models of a single-channel pump in this work.
