In this paper, ablation rate of $Al_2O_3$ ceramics by femtosecond laser fluence is derived with experimental method. The automatic three axis linear stage makes laser optics to move with high spatial resolution. With 10 times objective lens, minimal pattern width of $Al_2O_3$ is measured in the focal plane. Ablated surface area is shown as linear tendency increasing number of machining times with various laser power conditions. Machining times is most sensitive condition to control $Al_2O_3$ pattern width. Also, the linear increment of pattern width with laser power change is investigated. In high machining speed, the ablation volume rate is more linear with fluence because pulse overlap is minimized in this condition. Thermal effect to surrounding medium can be minimized and clean laser process without melting zone is possible in high machining speed. Ablation volume rate decelerates as increasing machining times and multiple machining times should be considered to achieve proper ablation width and depth.

A novel pulsed laser ablation process in liquid was investigated to prepare scheelite-type ceramic [calcium tungstate ($CaWO_4$) and calcium molybdate ($CaMoO_4$)] nanocolloidal particles. The crystalline phase, particle morphology, particle size distribution, absorbance and optical band-gap were investigated. Stable colloidal suspensions consisting of well-dispersed $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ nanoparticles with narrow size distribution could be obtained without any surfactant. Particle tracking analysis using optical microscope combined with image analysis was applied for a fast determination of particle size distribution in the prepared nanocolloidal suspensions. The mean nanoparticle size of $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ colloidal nanoparticles were 16 nm and 30 nm, with the standard deviations of 2.1 and 5.2 nm, respectively. The optical absorption edges showed blue-shifted values about 60~70 nm than those of reported in bulk crystals. And also, the estimated optical energy band-gaps of $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ colloidal particles were 5.2 and 4.7 eV. The observed band-gap widening and blue-shift of the optical absorbance could be ascribed to the quantum confinement effect due to the very small size of the $CaWO_4$ and $CaMoO_4$ nanocolloidal particles prepared by pulsed laser ablation in liquid.
In this paper, a pulsed picosecond laser dressing method for bronze-bonded diamond wheel is studied systematically and comprehensively. The picosecond laser pulse ablation experiment is carried out, and the ablation thresholds of bronze-bonded and diamond abrasive particle are measured respectively. The results indicate that the single-pulse ablation thresholds of bronze-bonded are 0.89J/cm2, 0.24J/cm2 during strong/weak ablation stages. And the multi-pulse ablation thresholds of diamond abrasive particle are 1.69J/cm2, 0.49J/cm2 during strong/weak ablation stages. Obviously, diamond grains have less thermal damage during the process of gentle ablation. The diamond grains of the grinding wheel surface are graphitized during laser dressing. The bronze-bonded is relatively smooth and organizational stability, and the diamond grits have suitable prominent height, which are beneficial to maintain the good grinding performance of dressed bronze-bonded diamond grinding wheels.

Amorphous GaN film was deposited using a laser ablation of the highly densified GaN target. Through the surface morphological and compositional analysis of films deposited under various laser energies and Ar gas pressures, the film deposited under the pressure of 10 Pa were found to be amorphous GaN with the smooth surface. In particular, the film at 200 mJ/pulse showed the enhanced crystallinity and stoichiometric composition, compared with those of the films at relatively lower laser energy. The strong band-gap emission at 2.8 eV was observed from amorphous GaN film in the room temperature photoluminescence spectra, showing the highest efficiency in the film at 200 mJ/pulse under 10 Pa.

In this paper, we describe the modeling of ablation based laser applications for innovative use in the military In the laser ignition system, a metal confinement is ablated with the high intensity pulsed energy, triggering a thermal ignition of the confined high explosives. The constitutive equations for the laser source, deformation of metals, and explosion of energetic materials are described.
This paper proposes a fabrication process of deposited layer with micro patterns that uses a combination of a pulsed laser beam machining and an electrodeposition. This process consists of the electrodeposition and the laser beam machining. The deposited layer on metal can be selectively eliminated by laser ablation. As a result, the deposited layer with micro patterns can be fabricated without a mask. The characteristics of the deposited layer on stainless steel were investigated according to the average power and marking speed in the pulsed laser beam machining. The optimal laser beam conditions for precise micro patterning of the deposited layer were determined. Finally, the deposited copper layer with micro text was successfully fabricated by the pulsed laser beam machining.

We study the feasibility of synthesizing Si particles using PLA method. In the previous studies, it was possible to control the size of Si nanoparticles by the He gas pressure. In this study, we fabricated sub-micron size Si particles with various shapes such as conical, hexagonal, and ring by controlling not only the ambient gas pressure but also the laser energy density. Furthermore, we found that the conical Si particles were uniform-sized and had step shape when observed from FE-SEM and AFM. The conical Si particle has the same crystal structure as the bulk single crystalline Si by the analysis of the Raman scattering. It is shown that the relationship between the laser energy density and the He gas pressure inside the chamber affects the shape of the Si particle.

As an active emission display using emissive polymer has had much attention recently, needs for a selective patterning of emissive layer for those displays have been increased abruptly. Therefore, the various laser sources in terms of its wavelength has been used for laser direct patterning. In this work, the feasibility of those processes is examined using numerical analysis and the experimental investigation. A sample has multi-layered structure, emissive polymer on aluminum which is deposited on a glass substrate. Key factors for optimizing the laser patterning of the emissive polymer are considered into the control of ablation products, large-sized particle, and the choice of the appropriate wavelength for minimizing the heat affected zone and the remnant layer.
