  • In this paper, a space vector concept is generalized for PWM(pulse-width modulated) inverters and PWM rectifiers with current link and voltage link respectively. Through representing three-phase variables as a space vector, we propose space vector modulations for PWM voltage and current source inverters, and PWM rectifiers with current link and voltage link. For these types, switching states of the switches are systematically analyzed from tables. It is shown in three-phase PWM rectifiers that power factor of the line current and output dc voltage can be controlled arbitrarily. The PWM rectifier with current link is also given as an example system.

  • In this paper, a new space vector RPPWM (Random Position PWM) is proposed. In the proposed RPPWM, each of three phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Based on the space vector modulation technique, the duty ratio of the pulses is calculated. Along with the randomization of the PWM pulses, we can obtain the effects of spread spectra of voltage, current as in the case of randomly changed switching frequency. To verify the validity of the proposed RPPWM, simulation study was tried using Matlab/simulink. The main model described in Simulink block diagrams includes the space vector modulation block, pulse position randomization block, inverter block, 3 phase induction motor block, and so on. By the simulation study, the harmonics of the output voltage, and the current of inverter are predicted in different PWM methods- SVPWM, LLPWM, proposed RPPWM.

  • In this paper, a new two-phase space vector RPWM(Random PWM) is proposed. In the proposed RPWM, each of two-phase PWM pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Based on the space vector modulation technique, the duty ratio of the pulses is calculated. Along with the randomization of the PWM pulses, we can obtain the effects of spread spectra of inverter output voltage, d.c link current and audible switching acoustic noise as in the case of randomly changed switching frequency. To verily the validity of the proposed two-phase RPWM scheme, the experiment based on the Cl67 micro-controller was executed. The performance of the proposed scheme was compared with traditional PWM schemes experimentally.

  • In this paper, a predictive direct power control (DPC) method based on a Kalman filter is presented for three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifiers to improve the performance of rectifiers with source voltages that are distorted with harmonic components. This method can eliminate the most significant harmonic components of the source voltage using a Kalman filter algorithm. In the process of predicting the future real and reactive power to select an optimal voltage vector in the predictive DPC, the proposed method utilizes source voltages filtered by a Kalman filter, which can mitigate the adverse effects of distorted source voltages on control performance. As a result, the quality of the source currents synthesized using the PWM rectifier is improved, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) values are reduced, even under distorted source voltages.

  • This paper proposes a common-mode voltage reduction method base on SVPWM(Space-Vector Pulsewidth Modulation) in three phase PWM converter/inverter system. By shifting the active voltage vector of inverter and aligning this to the active vector of converter, it is possible to eliminate a common-mode voltage pulse in one control period. Since the proposed PWM method maintains the active voltage vector, it does not affect the control performance of PWM converter/inverter system. Without any extra hardware, overall common mode voltage dv/dt and conrresponding leakage current can be reduced to two-third of the conventional three phase symmetric SVPWM scheme.

  • We have considered optical nonlinearities of coupled quantum dots theoretically, where an exciton dipole-dipole interaction is mediated between the adjacent large and small quantum dots. For increasing a pump pulse area in resonance with the large quantum dot exciton the induced nonlinear refractive index of the small quantum dot exciton has been obtained. As the exciton dipole-dipole interaction depends on the relative orientation of two exciton dipoles, the optical nonlinearities for the directions parallel and perpendicular to the coupling axis of the two quantum dots are compared. The directional imbalance of optical nonlinearities in coupled quantum dots can be utilized for a polarization phase modulator by controlling a pump pulse area and propagation length.

  • The arm inductance (AI) of a modular multilevel converter (MMC) affects both the fault and circulating current magnitudes. In addition, it has an impact on the inverter efficiency and harmonic content. In this study, the AI of a three-phase MMC is optimized in a novel way in terms of DC voltage utilization, harmonics and efficiency. This MMC has 10 submodules (SM) per arm and the power circuit topology of the SM is a half-bridge. The optimum AI is adopted and verified in an MMC that has 100 SMs per arm. Then the phase shift (PS) and phase disposition (PD) pulse width modulation (PWM) methods are investigated for better DC voltage utilization, efficiency and harmonics. It is found that similar performances are obtained for both modulation techniques in terms of DC voltage utilization. However, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the PS-PWM is found to be 0.02%, which is slightly lower than the THD of the PD-PWM at 0.16%. In efficiency calculations, the switching and conduction losses for all of the semiconductor are considered separately and the minimum efficiency of the 100-SM based MMC is found to be 99.62% for the PS-PWM and 99.64% for the PD-PWM with the optimal value of the AI. Simulation results are verified with an experimental prototype of a 6-SM based MMC.

  • In this paper, a photovoltaic system is designed with PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) voltage source inverter. Proposed synchronous signal and control signal was processed by 56F8323 microprocessor for stable modulation. The PWM voltage source inverter using inverter consists of complex type of electric power converter to compensate for the defect, that is solar cell cannot be developed continuously by connecting with the source of electric power for ordinary use. It can cause the effect of saving electric power, from 10 to 20[%]. The PWM voltage source inverter operates in situation that its output voltage is in same phase with the utility voltage. In addition, I connected extra power to the system through operation the system voltage and inverter power in a synchronized way by extracting the system voltage so that the phase of the system and PWM voltage inverter can be synchronized. In the system of this research showed good results after being controlled in order to provide stable power to the load and the system through maintaining and low output power of harmonics.

  • Unlike existing pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques, such as sinusoidal PWM and random PWM, the wavelet PWM (WPWM) technique based on a Harr wavelet function can achieve a high fundamental component for the output voltage, low total harmonic distortion, and simple digital implementation. However, the original WPWM method lacks output voltage control. Thus, the practical application of the WPWM technique is limited. This study proposes an improved WPWM technique that can regulate output voltage amplitude with the addition of a parameter. The relationship between the additional parameter and the output voltage amplitude is analyzed in detail. Experimental results verify that the improved WPWM exhibits output voltage control in addition to all the merits of the WPWM technique.

  • The cascaded multilevel converter is widely adopted to medium/high voltage and high power electronic applications due to the small harmonic components of the output voltage and the facilitation of modularity. In this paper, the operation principle of a T-type H-bridge topology is investigated in detail, and a carrier phase shifted pulse width modulation (CPS-PWM) based control method is proposed for this topology. Taking a virtual five-level waveform achieved by a unipolar double frequency CPS-PWM as the output object, PWM signals of the T-type H-bridge can be obtained by reverse derivation according to its switching modes. In addition, a control method for the T-type H-bridge based cascaded multilevel converter is introduced. Then a single-phase T-type H-bridge cascaded multilevel static var generator (SVG) prototype is built, and a repetitive controller based compound current control strategy is designed with the DC-link voltage balancing control scheme analyzed. Finally, simulation and experimental results validate the correctness and feasibility of the proposed modulation method and control strategy for T-type H-bridge based cascaded multilevel converters.
