  • The transient photocurrent in amorphous silicon radiation detectors (n-i-n and forward biased p-i-n) were analyzed. The transient photocurrents in these devices could be modeled using multiple trap levels in the forbidden gap. Using this model the rise and decay shapes of the photocurrents could be fitted. The decaying photocurrent shapes of the p-i-n and n-i-n devices after a short duration of light pulse showed a similar behavior at low dark current density levels, but at higher dark current density levels the photocurrent of the p-i-n diode decayed faster than that of the n-i-n, which could be explained by the decreased electron lifetimes in the forward biased p-i-n diode at high dark current densities. The transient photoconductive gain behaviors in the amorphous silicon radiation detectors are discussed in terms of device configuration, dark current density and time scale.

  • In the article of instability on the peak power level, duration and repetition period of a multifrequency space-time signal, we calculated the maximum values of the errors of the parameters of the laws of spatial-phase-frequency control. Requirements for the accuracy of the location of the phase centers of the emitters in a cylindrical phased array antenna with pyramidal horns; it is advisable to calculate the radiation field using single-stage and multi-stage distribution laws. The phase centers of individual radiation sources of a cylindrical phased array antenna have been studied; they have almost no effect on the duration and period of recurrence.

  • A personal portable type electronic dosimeter using silicon PIN photodiode and small GM tube is recently attracting much attention due to its advantages such as an immediate indication function of dose and dose rate, alerting function, and efficient management of radiation exposure history and dose data. We designed and manufactured a semiconductor radiation detector aimed to directly measure X-ray and v-ray irradiated in silicon PIN photodiode, without using high-priced scintillation materials. Using this semiconductor radiation detector, we developed an active electronic dosimeter, which measures the exposure dose using pulse counting method. In this case, it has a shortcoming of over-evaluating the dose that shows the difference between the dose measured with electronic dosimeter and the dose exposed to the human body in a low energy area. We proposed an energy compensation filter and developed a dose conversion algorithm to make both doses indicated on the detector and exposed to the human body proportional to each other, thus enabling a high-precision dose measurement. In order to prove its reliability in conducting personal dose measurement, crucial for protecting against radiation, the implemented electronic dosimeter was evaluated to successfully meet the IEC's criteria, as the KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) conducted test on dose indication accuracy, and linearity, energy and angular dependences.

  • This paper suggests a monitoring method for the pulsed laser spot welding of the thin metal sheets using a point IR(InfraRed) sensor. A new criterion was introduced and the experimental results guaranteed the efficiency. The ideal radiation feature was derived from the mathematical model and was simulated. The radiation feature is robust to withstand the change of measuring condition and can be used to detect the absorbed laser energy. In an experiment, the radiation feature was examined for the differect laser energy. The pulse width and the laser power was variated and the radiation feature was examined. In the other experiment, the relationship between the weld strength and radiation feature was examined. Artificial Neural Network(ANN) was employed to find out the relationship. The correlation coefficient between the real strength and the estimated strength is high as 0.94 and the mean square error is low as 0.64 kgf learned parts. Another group of the welds was used to appraise the learning efficiency. The correlation coefficient between the measured and the estimated weld strength is high as 0.91.

  • In this study, we analyzed the effects of TID(Total Ionizing Dese) and TREE(Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics) on nMOSFET and pMOSFET fabricated by 0.18um CMOS process. The size of nMOSFET and pMOSFET is 100um/1um(W/L). The TID test was conducted up to 1 Mrad(Si) with a gamma-ray(Co-60). During the TID test, the nMOSFET generated leakage current proportional to the applied dose, but that of the pMOSFET was remained in a steady state. The TREE test was conducted at TEST LINAC in Pohang Accelerator Laboratory with a maximum dose-rate of $3.16{\times}10^8rad(si)/s$. In that test nMOESFET generated a large amount of photocurrent at a maximum of $3.16{\times}10^8rad(si)/s$. Whereas, pMOSFETs showed high TREE immunity with a little amount of photocurrent at the same dose rate. Based on the results of this experiment, we will progress the research of the radiation hardening for CMOS unit devices.

  • When the charged particle travels in transparent medium with a velocity greater than that of light in the same medium, the electromagnetic field close to the particle polarizes the medium along its path, and then the electrons in the atoms follow the waveform of the pulse which is called as Cerenkov light or radiation. This type of radiation can be easily observed in a spent fuel storage pit. In optical fibers, the Cerenkov light also can be generated due to their dielectric components. Accordingly, the radiation-induced light signals can be obtained using optical fibers without any scintillating material. In this study, to measure the intensities of Cerenkov radiation induced by gamma-rays, we have fabricated the fiber-optic Cerenkov radiation sensor system using silica optical fibers, plastic optical fibers, multi-anode photomultiplier tubes, simulated spent fuel assembly and a scanning system. To characterize the Cerenkov radiation generated in optical fibers, the intensities of Cerenkov radiation generated in the silica and plastic optical fibers were measured. Also, we measured the longitudinal distribution of gamma rays emitted from the Ir-192 isotope by using the fiber-optic Cerenkov radiation sensor system and simulated spent fuel assembly.

  • In this paper, we designed the antipodal vivaldi antenna for IR-UWB systems application and evaluated IR-UWB antenna performance for the ultra wideband impulse signal transmission in the time- and frequency-domain. The designed antipodal vivaldi antenna was fabricated using FR-4 substrate which thickness 1.6 mm, dielectric constant ${\epsilon}_r=4.7$ and $tan{\delta}=0.002$. We measured the return loss, far filed radiation pattern at the anechoic chamber in the frequency-domain. We also performed the pulse fidelity analysis in the time-domain using nano-second impulse signal transmission and demonstrated the feasibility of ultra wideband signal stable transmission in the UWB band. The designed and fabricated antipodal vivaldi antenna could be emitting and receiving the IR-UWB signal while preserving low pulse distortion and good radiation pattern in time- and frequency-domain.

  • An optimized method for determining beta-emitting $^{241}Pu$ in the presence of alpha-emitting nuclides was developed using a liquid scintillation counting system. Pulse shape analysis (PSA) level was set using pulse-shape discrimination method and the $^{241}Pu$ counting channel was adjusted for maximum value of figure of merit using the 241pu standard source. The volume of scintillant was determined for the maximum value of counting efficiency. This optimized method has been applied to environmental samples to measure concentration of $^{241}Pu$ in soils and mosses. Also it has been identified the origin of Pu deposited in Korea from the activity ratio of $^{241}Pu/^{239,\;240}Pu$.

  • The use of medical devices is increasing due to the development of medical technology. Among medical devices, it is often used in the human body for graft and treatment. Therefore, in medical institutions, various sterilization methods according to the type and material of medical devices are applied to prevent infection. Hydrophosphite (HA) materials are the most popular in bone grafts. We would like to present a sterilization method using Q-switch Nd:YAG laser with high output energy among non-ionizing radiation suitable for small medical devices. In this study, sterilization power was most ideally shown at UV wavelengths of 1.5 W, 266 nm, and 10 pulses. Different wavelength bands; infrared and visible light; showed passive sterilization, and ultraviolet A and C showed differences in sterilization according to the pulse. In laser sterilization were differences that found according to the wavelength bands and pulses.
