  • The main objectives of this study are to investigate the micro-scale energy transfer mechanism for silicon wafer and to find an efficient way for fabrication of silicon wafer through-hole by using the femtosecond pulse laser ablation. In addition, the electron-phonon interactions during laser irradiation are discussed and the carrier number density and temperatures are estimated. In particular, the present study observes the shapes of silicon wafer through-hole with $100\;{\mu}m$ diameter and it also measures the heat-affected area and the ablation depths fur different laser fluences by using the optic microscope and the three-dimensional profile measurement technique. First, from numerical investigation, it is found that the nonequilibrium state exists between electrons and phonons during laser irradiation. From experimental results, it should be noted that the heat-affected area increases with laser fluence, and the optimal conditions for through-hole formation with minimum heat affected zone are finally obtained.

  • In this paper, development of the monopulse secondary surveillance radar antenna which can be used for IFF system is presented. This antenna that is passive linear array is comprised of the row-feeder and several array-elements. The row-feeder provides sum, different and SLS(Sidelobe Supression) channels which are optimized the distribution of the power and phase ratio. The azimuthe sidelobe level of the sum channel beam pattern is -20 dBc or less. The SLS channel covers the sidelobe of the sum-chanel in the whole azimuth angle range. And the difference channel is used to perform the mono-pulse function, improves the detection accuracy in the azimuth direction. Meanwhile, the arrayelement makes shaped beam in the elevation angle, in order to eliminate the clutter and multipath effects from the ground. Performance of the antenna developed is verified by the measurement of S-parameters and far-field beam pattern, and satisfies all of the development specifications well.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid LED driving circuit and its control method for extension of the color gamut of LED. The proposed hybrid LED driving circuit provides the constant current by switching regulation in the high current and by linear regulation in the low current through LED. Furthermore, the magnitudes of the high current and low current were controlled by CC(Continuous Current) control method and PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) control method, respectively. We experimentally confirmed that the current through RGB LED is linearly controlled to 2% maximum current ratio by varying PWM in the proposed driving circuit and control method. As a result of the measurement of the output light color in CIE1976 chromaticity coordinates, we confirmed that the color, which not be expressed by the existing method, uniformly expressed. We confirmed that the color, which can not be expressed by the existing method, was uniformly output and verified that the color gamut was expanded by the low current controlled by the proposed driving circuit and control method.

  • A Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) has double salient poles structure and the phase windings are wound in stator. SRM hase more simple structure that of other motor, thus manufacture cost is low, mechanically strong, reliable to a poor environment such as high temperature, and maintenance cost is low because of brushless. SRM needs position detector to get rotator position information for phase excitation and tachometer or encoder for constant speed operation. But, this paper doesn\`s use an encoder of high cost for velocity measurement of rotator. Instead of it, the algorithm for position detection and velocity estimation from simple slotted disk has been proposed and developed. To implement variable speed digital control system with velocity estimation algorithm, the TMS320F240-20MIPS fixed point arithmetic processor of TI corporation is used. The experimental results of the developing system are enable to control speed with wide range, not only single pulse, hard chopping mode and soft chopping, ut also variable speed control, and advance angle control.

  • An automated scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) has been designed, and built to measure in-plane vibration fields over structures. Use of optical fibers allows the compact design of a laser probe head which can be scanned over the vibrating structures. An algorithm for automated self-alignment of the laser probe is developed. The system is completely automated for scanning over the structures, focusing two laser beams at each data point until the detected vibration signal is stable, and for recording and transferring the data to a system computer. The automated system allows one to get extensive data of the vibration field over the structures. The system is tested by scanning a piezoelectric cylindrical shell and a plate excited by a continuous signal and by a pulse signal, respectively. Results show that the automated scanning LDV system can be a useful tool to measure the in-plane vibration field and to detect the elastic waves propagating on the vibrating structures.

  • Plasma source ion implantation (PSII) technique was utilized to improve the wettability of polystyrene surfaces. It is well known that treated surfaces undergo aging, leading to hydrophobic recovery with time. We investigated the aging effect of polystyrene thin film on the various molecular weights. Polystyrenes with several molecular weights ($M_w$ = 760, 2430, 31600, 115700, 280000, 903600) were treated in different experimental conditions including gas species and pulse energy, and their hydrophilicity was measured by contact angle goniometer. To study wettability decay as a function of the molecular weight, PSII-treated samples were aged at different temperatures. Hydrophobic recovery of high molecular weight polystyrene was much slower than that of low molecular weight, even at high temperatures. The methods used to characterize treated surfaces were water contact angle measurement, TOF-SIMS, XPS, SEM and AFM.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the comfort sensation depending on four different kinds of denim blue jeans: cotton, cotton/tencel, tencel, cotton/pp. The objective and subjective experiments were conducted to measure the comfort of blue jeans. To investigate the objective comfort, physical properties related to thermal insulation, moisture properties and hand were measured. For subjective comfort measurement, 5 healthy female college students were taken as subjects. The outcomes of the experiments are as follows: The higher the air permeability and bulk density of the denim, the lower the thermal insulation, the thicker the denim, the higher the thermal insulation. Tencel blending denim showed the higher bulk density, the lower air contents, and consequently the lower thermal insulation than the other denims. Tencel showed the highest moisture regain, and cotton/tencel blend showed the highest water vapor permeability. Tencel denim had relatively better flexibility, shape stability and elastic recovery than the other denims. The total hand values of the denims by KES-FB system were not significantly different. Cotton and cotton/pp denims raised the subjects body temperature after excercise more than tencel or cotton/tencel denims. Average skin temperature was found to have a correlation with micro climate temperature and micro climate humidity. The correlation coefficients were 0.749 and 0.767, respectively. However, average skin temperatures were not significantly different among the materials. Pulse rate was found to be the highest when wearing cotton/pp and the lowest in case of cotton/tencel denim. The energy was consumed in order of cotton>cotton/pp>tencel>cotton/tencel. There was no significant difference in preference before excercise, but, after the excercise, the order of preference changed as the following; cotton/tencel>tencel>cotton/pp>cotton.

  • Compressional sound velocities of shelf sediments in the South Sea of Korea, were measured in situ and in the laboratory for six cores. In situ sound velocity was measured using the Acoustic Lance (frequency of 7.5-15 kHz), while laboratory velocity was measured by the pulse transmission technique (frequency of 1MHz). Physical properties were relatively uniform with sediment depth, suggesting little effect of sediment compaction and/or consolidation. Average in situ velocity at each core site ranged from 1,457 to 1,488 m/s, which was less than the laboratory velocity of 1,503 and 1,604m/s. In muddy sediments the laboratory velocity was 39-47 m/s higher than in situ velocity. In sandy sediments, the difference was greater by an average of 116 m/s. Although the velocity data were corrected by the velocity ratio method based on bottom water temperature, the laboratory velocity was still higher than the in situ velocity (11-21 m/s in muddy sediments and 91 m/s in sandy sediments). This discrepancy may be caused by sediment disturbance during core collection and/or by the pressure of Acoustic Lance insertion, but it was most likely due to the frequency difference between in situ and laboratory measurement systems. Thus, when correcting laboratory velocity to in situ velocity, it is important to consider both temperature and frequency.
