Positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance (MR) scanning has the advantage of less additional exposure to radiation than does PET/computed tomography (CT). In particular, MR based attenuation correction (MR AC) can greatly affect the image quality of PET and is frequently obtained using various MR sequences. Thus, the purpose of the current study was to quantitatively compare the image quality between MR non-AC (MR NAC) and MR AC in PET images with three MR sequences. Percent image uniformity (PIU), percent contrast recovery (PCR), and percent background variability (PBV) were estimated to evaluate the quality of PET images with MR AC. Based on the results of PIU, 15.2% increase in the average quality was observed for PET images with MR AC than for PET images with MR NAC. In addition, 28.6% and 71.1% improvement in the average results of PCR and PBV respectively, was observed for PET images with MR AC compared with that with MR NAC. Moreover, no significant difference was observed among the average values using three MR sequences. In conclusion, the current study demonstrated that PET with MR AC improved the image quality and can be help diagnosis in all MR sequence cases.

A rectangular-shaped PET system with an adjustable gantry (AGPET) has been developed for imaging small animals. The AGPET system employs a new depth of interaction (DOI) method using a depth dependent reflector patterns and a new digital time pickoff method based on the pulse reconstruction method. To evaluate the performance of the AGPET, timing resolution, intrinsic spatial resolution and point source images were acquired. The timing resolution and intrinsic spatial resolution were measured using two detector modules and Na-22 gamma source. The PET images were acquired in two field of view (FOV) sizes, 30 mm and 90 mm, to demonstrate the characteristic of the AGPET. As a result of in the experiment results, the timing resolution was 0.9 ns using the pulse reconstruction method based on the bi-exponential model. The intrinsic spatial resolution was an average of 1.7 mm and the spatial resolution of PET images after DOI correction was 2.08 mm and 2.25 mm at the centers of 30 mm and 90 mm FOV, respectively. The results show that the proposed AGPET system provided higher sensitivity and resolution for small animal imaging.
Purpose: The management of metal-induced field inhomogeneities is one of the major concerns of distortion-free magnetic resonance images near metallic implants. The recently proposed method called "Slice Encoding for Metal Artifact Correction (SEMAC)" is an effective spin echo pulse sequence of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) near metallic implants. However, as SEMAC uses the noisy resolved data elements, SEMAC images can have a major problem for improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) without compromising the correction of metal artifacts. To address that issue, this paper presents a novel reconstruction technique for providing an improvement of the SNR in SEMAC images without sacrificing the correction of metal artifacts. Materials and Methods: Low-rank approximation in each coil image is first performed to suppress the noise in the slice direction, because the signal is highly correlated between SEMAC-encoded slices. Secondly, SEMAC images are reconstructed by the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE), also known as Gauss-Markov or weighted least squares. Noise levels and correlation in the receiver channels are considered for the sake of SNR optimization. To this end, since distorted excitation profiles are sparse, $l_1$ minimization performs well in recovering the sparse distorted excitation profiles and the sparse modeling of our approach offers excellent correction of metal-induced distortions. Results: Three images reconstructed using SEMAC, SEMAC with the conventional two-step noise reduction, and the proposed image denoising for metal MRI exploiting sparsity and low rank approximation algorithm were compared. The proposed algorithm outperformed two methods and produced 119% SNR better than SEMAC and 89% SNR better than SEMAC with the conventional two-step noise reduction. Conclusion: We successfully demonstrated that the proposed, novel algorithm for SEMAC, if compared with conventional de-noising methods, substantially improves SNR and reduces artifacts.
This paper presents a new active power filter with low DC voltage for compensating reactive power and harmonics of three-phase high power/voltage harmonic producing load. It has a structure of converter connected in series with power factor correction capacitor. Appropriate size and number of filter capacitor are determined by an equation and applied to simulation of 10kvar 6-pulse SCR rectifier.
A new ZVS-CV PWM converter with power factor correction (PFC) function is presented in this paper. The new topology is a integration of a boost converter and a ZVS-CV topology in a single power conversion stage. The new converter can be regulated in pulse-width modulation (PWM) by universal integrated control circuits. Some design considerations are given in detail. A laboratory prototype has been implemented to show the feasibility of the approach and the analysis.

The purpose of this study is to improve productivity by implementing one-pass full penetration welding using laser-arc hybrid welding for AH36. On increasing the thickness of the plate, a higher power of laser and arc was required to obtain full penetration. However, increasing the power of heat source caused undercut defects at both ends of the bead. This undercut was prevented by controlling the parameters of welding voltage and pulse correction. Hardness measurement and tensile test were conducted to apprehend the mechanical properties of weld. Also, by carrying out the microstructure observation for laser and arc regions, microstructural properties were understood.
This is a report on four cases of successful surgical correction of coarctation of the aorta [COA] in Department of the Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, Hanyang University Hospital. The first case was a postductal type of coarctation of the aorta associated with Patent ductus arteriosus [PDA], Persistent left superior vena cava [LSVC] and richly developed collateral circulation. Blood pressure was measured to be hypertensive at the arm, but hypotensive at the legs. The coarctation of the aorta was corrected with following procedure: Partial resection of the aortic wall with diaphragmatic structure lust above and below the coarctating line of the aorta, and then the defect of the aortic wall was closed by lateral aortographic suture. PDA was closed by ligation procedure. The second case a preductal type of coarctation of the aorta associated with PDA, LSVC, ventricular septal defect [VSD] and poorly developed collateral circulation. Normal blood pressure was measured at the arm, but hypotension was observed at the legs. Correction of coarctation of the aorta was performed under the establishment of tube bypass because of poor collateral circulation. After resection of coarctating short segment, end to end anastomosis was performed without any tension. PDA was closed by division procedure. Simple suture closure of VSD was performed by open heart surgery two weeks after correction of COA. The third case was a long segment COA without any other anomaly. Blood pressure was measured to be hypertensive at the arm, but hypotensive at the legs. Vascular prosthesis was performed using Teflon graft tube after resecting coarctating long segment [6.5 cm] of the aorta. The fourth case was a long segment COA associated with aortic insufficiency and richly developed collateral circulation. Normal blood pressure was measured at the arm, but hypotension was observed at the legs. Vascular prosthesis was performed using Teflon graft tube after resecting coarctating long segment [6.0 cm] of the aorta. Both blood pressure and peripheral pulse on the arm and the legs returned to normal postoperatively in all patients.

In this paper, we propose group Manchester code (GM) modulation scheme for medical in-body wireless body area network (WBAN) systems. In IEEE, the WBAN system is assigned as 802.15. Task Group 6 (TG 6), and the related standardization is being progressed, Recently, in this Group, group pulse position modulation (GPPM), which can obtain data rate increase by grouping pulse position modulation (PPM) symbols, is proposed as a new modulation scheme for low-power operation of WBAN system. However, the conventional method suffers from BER performance degradation due to the absence of gray coding and its demodulation characteristics. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a modified GM scheme which groups Manchester code instead of PPM. In the proposed GM scheme, a low-complexity maximum likelihood (ML) demodulation method is employed in order to maximize the BER performances, Also, log likelihood ratio (LLR) decision method is proposed to employ the Turbo code as forward error correction (FEC), Finally, we verified that the proposed method has a good performance and is an appropriate scheme for in-body WBAN system through extensive performance evaluation.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the oxygen saturation measured at fingertips with unpolished and self-artificial nails (sticker, tip) using a portable pulse oximeter. Methods: The sample comprised 27 women who had used nail care services. Using a pulse oximeter, oxygen saturation was measured at fingertips with unpolished nails in a stable state. Self-fabricated sticker and tip nails were attached to the right and left hands, respectively, using five nail colors (black, blue, green, purple, and brown). Oxygen saturation was measured at fingertips with self-fabricated nails first in the usual manner and then measured again by rotating the oximeter by 90°. Values of oxygen saturation were compared and analyzed using the Friedman test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test with Bonferroni correction using IBM SPSS 26.0. Results: Oxygen saturation values were significantly different among colors for both sticker nails (p=.036) and tip nails (p=.000), with black self-artificial nails tending to demonstrate lower oxygen saturation. Moreover, oxygen saturation values obtained by measuring the usual way on unpolished nails was significantly different than those obtained by rotating the oximeter by 90° on thumb with sticker (p=.001) and tip nails (p=.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that oxygen saturation should be measured on other fingers except for thumb instead of removing the self-artificial nails in emergency situations. For patients with black self-artificial nails, is the findings recommend measuring oxygen saturation at other body parts such as toes, earlobes, forehead, etc.
