This paper aims to explore the evolution of the pullout behavior of geocell reinforcement insights from three-dimensional numerical studies. Initially, a developed model was validated with the model test results. The horizontal displacement of geocells and infill sand and the passive resistance transmission in the geocell layer were analyzed deeply to explore the evolution of geocell pullout behavior. The results reveal that the pullout behavior of geocell reinforcement is the pattern of progressive deformation. The geocell pockets are gradually mobilized to resist the pullout force. The vertical walls provide passive pressure, which is the main contributor to the pullout force. Hence, even if the frontal displacement (FD) is up to 90m mm, only half of the pockets are mobilized. Furthermore, the parametric studies, orthogonal analysis, and the building of the predicted model were also carried out to quantitative the geocell pullout behavior. The weights of influencing factors were ranked. Ones can calculate the pullout force accurately by inputting the aspect ratio, geocell modulus, embedded length, frontal displacement, and normal stress.
Shear Connector should be used to fix the PHC pile with extension wall in order to utilize PHC-W retaining wall as permanent wall. The pullout behaviours on shear connectors anchored into PHC-W pile were observed as two modes. The first type behaviour showed that after reaching the maximum pullout resistance, the anchorage was broken and shear connector was pulled out abruptly. The second type behaviour showed that even after arriving the maximum pullout resistance, the anchorage was not destroyed and there was a progressive increase in pullout displacement. The maximum pullout resistance of the steel anchor shear connector is larger than that of deformed bar shear connector. The larger the diameter and the longer the embedment length of shear connector, the higher the maximum pullout resistance would be. The pullout displacements corresponding to the maximum pullout resistance of the shear connector showed various ranges regardless of the materials, the diameters and the anchoring lengths. A-D20 shear connectors showed a pull-out displacement of about 8~10 mm. A-D16, D-D19 and D-D16 shear connectors exhibited a pulling displacement of about 14~20 mm, but a pulling displacement of about 6~10 mm when the anchoring lengths were 50 and 80 mm.

Model tests for the ultimate pullout resistance of anchorages and investigation of failure behaviors in cohesionless soil have been conducted. The factors affecting the anchorage are mostly the geometry of the system, and soil properties of sands. The main conclusions of the experimental work were as follows. 1. The load - displacement relationship can be a form of parabolic curve for all plates. 2. The change in ultimate pullout resistance of anchor is mostly affected by embedment ratio and size of anchor, and influenced to a lesser degree by its shape. 3. Critical embedment ratio which is defined as the failure mode changes from shallow to deep mode is increased with increasing height of anchor. 4. For a constant anchor height, as the width of anchor increases the ultimate pullout resistance also increases. However, considering the efficiency of anchor for unit area, width of anchor does not appear to have any sigrnificant contribution on increasing anchor city. 5. Anchor capacity has a linear relation to sand density for any given section and the rate of change increases as the section increases. Critical depth determining the failure patterns of anchor is decreased with a decrease of sand density. 6. With increasing inclination angle, size of anchor, and decreasing embedment ratio, the ultimate pullout resistance of anchor under inclined loading is significantly decreased. 7. The ultimate pullout resistance of double anchor, a method of improving single of anchor capacity, is influenced by the center - to - center spacing adjacent anchors. It is also found that tandem and parallel anchor rigging arrangements decrease the anchor system capacity to less than twice the single anchor capacity due to anchor interference.

Jacket anchor was developed to increase the pullout resistance of general ground anchor in soft ground, and the mechanism of pullout resistance of jacket anchor was analyzed. Also, the ultimate bond stress of jacket anchor was estimated by ultimate resistance which is determined by field tests. Grout milk was injected into the jacket to make grout bulb of jacket anchor. The formation of grout bulb of jacket anchor increases the diameter of grout bulb, ground strength and confining pressure between anchor grout and soil. From the twelve field test results, it was observed that the pullout resistance of jacket anchor is 15.38~295.02%(average 83.53%) greater than that of general ground anchor, and plastic deformation of jacket anchor is 20.78~1,496.45%(average 288.78%) smaller than that of general ground anchor at the same load cycle. Especially, it was investigated that the increase of ultimate resistance over 200% and the reduction of plastic deformation over 600% was obtained in gravel layer. It means that the jacket anchor is superior to the general ground anchor in gravel layer. Finally, the ultimate bond stress was proposed to design jacket anchor.
This paper describes large scale pullout test results, in order to evaluate extensibility effect of strip-type reinforcement. The same test for ribbed steel strip reinforcement also is conducted to compare the friction resistance reinforcements' evaluation results. The pullout resistance of the ribbed steel strip reinforcement, which has a small cross sectional areas, was better than the friction resistance reinforcements' due to the bearing (passive) resistance. In case of friction resistance reinforcements, the pullout resistance of extensible reinforcement was better than inextensible reinforcement' even though they have a similar cross sectional areas.

The purpose of this study is to figure out the effect of pressurized grouting on the pullout resistance and the group effect of the compression ground anchor by performing pilot-scale chamber tests and field tests. The laboratory tests are carried out for 3-types of soils which are abundant in the Korean peninsular. Experimental results showed that the enlargement of anchor diameters estimated from the cavity expansion theory matches reasonable well with that obtained from experiments. Moreover, the required injection time as a function of the coefficient of permeability of each soil type was proposed. A series of in-situ anchor pullout tests were also performed to experimentally figure out the effect of pressurized grouting on the pullout resistance. Experimental results also showed that the effect of the pressurized grouting is more prominent in a softer ground with smaller SPT-N value in all of the following three aspects: increase in anchor diameter; pullout resistance; and surface roughness. The pressurized grouting effect in comparison with gravitational grouting was found to be almost nil if the SPT-N value is more than 50. Based on experimental results, a new equation to estimate the pullout resistance as a function of the SPT-N value was proposed. And based on in-situ group anchor pullout tests results, a new group effect equation was proposed which might be applicable to decomposed residual soils which are abundant in the Korean peninsular.

New concept called the pullout resistance angle has been used to express the friction, cohesion and passive resistance by pullout test at geosynthetics reinforced soil. And also in order to calculate the pullout area, the distribution area method has been used, which is a method of using the curve of tensile force exerted in geogrid. The distribution area ratio showed nearly the same result in the two kind of soils, the granite soil and the standard soil. The pullout resistance angle showed the greater value than friction angle of soil in case of low confining stress of $0.2kg/cm^2$, while it showed the smaller angle than friction of soil in case of high confining stress of $0.8kg/cm^2$.
In this study, the pullout tests are conducted to evaluate pullout resistance of steel strip reinforcement with transverse members. The test results are compared with theoretical equations and then the failure mechanism of transverse members is evaluated. The bearing resistance stress(${\sigma}^{\prime}_b$) of transverse members, which is applied pullout force at 50mm displacement, is closed from punching shear failure to general shear failure. The behavior by increment of a number of transverse members became closer to general shear failure. The behavior of transverse members at maximum pullout force, which is closed to general shear failure, is indicated that it is unrelated to normal stress and a number of transverse members. However, if the allowable displacement of reinforced soil wall is considered, it is impossible to apply in design. The test results are compared with bearing resistance evaluations using Prandtl's plastic theory and cylindrical cavity expansion theory. The analysis results are indicated that the bearing resistance by pullout tests is closed to predicted result by Prandtl's plastic theory, which are located between general shear failure and punching shear failure.

A in-situ experiment was performed to evaluate the pullout resistance capacity of chains which is used as a reinforcement of reinforced earth wall. It was also considered that chain was combined with a bar or L-type steel angle by the transverse reinforcement member in the experiment. As a result of experiment, it is expected that chain can be safely used as reinforcements of reinforced earth wall, although it is concerned that a theoretical estimation of the pullout resistance capability of chain is too conservative.
This paper describes large-scale pullout test results of geosynthetic strip, which can be applied in reinforced earth wall with block-type wall facing. The pullout tests are conducted to evaluate the strain distribution, the induced pullout force and the pullout strength. The maximum pullout force is appeared regardless of reinforcement width and normal stress when end displacement is less than 15 mm. The pullout behavior based on horizontal spacing of reinforcement was similar in relationship between pullout force and end displacement. The strain distribution and pullout force distribution of the geosynthetic strip are concentrated in the front part of reinforcement, and it appeared clearly in higher normal stress condition This means that the pullout behavior of geosynthetic strip is affected by the bond between soil and friction resistance reinforcement according normal stress. Therefore, the pullout resistance design is reasonable when pullout behavior of geosynthetic strip should be evaluated by effective length considering tensile characteristic.
