The purpose of this study was to provide basic information about hierarchical spatial compositions of lounges and corridors in elderly skilled nursing facilities through the analysis of elderly residents' behaviors. For the study, five researchers observed the behavior of the elderly in the lounges and corridors of five facilities from 10 AM. to 4 PM. at 30-minute intervals for the investigation of hierarchical spatial compositions. And then, the design characteristics of public and semi-public area were analyzed by evaluating their openness, centrality, accessibility, and stimulations. The results of this study were as follows. First, the public area was focused on the lounge, and the semi-public area was formed on the comers of corridors and the parts of lounge walls. The private and semi-private area were distributed to the whole lounges and corridors. Second, in morning time, the semi-public area was concentrated on the wall of lounge instead of on the comers of corridors, and in afternoon, the residents' behaviors relevant to the private and semi-public areas were increased. Especially, the comers of corridors were utilized as the main semi-public areas. Third, the public area could encourage the participation of the elderly residents when it was opened to other areas more than 40% and close to the nursing station. But, the central garden made the accessibility from the elderly private room to the public area not good. The ideal openness of semi-public area was indicated as 25-30%, and its centrality was $10{\sim}15m$ which was a little far from the nursing station. Forth, furniture arrangements gave large influence to the behavior characteristics in the semi-public areas. Especially, sofa arrangements in the comers of corridors increased informal interactions among the elderly. In conclusion, the public area needs high rate of openness and should satisfy both of the centrality and accessibility so that it lead the elderly participations from the private and semi-private areas. The semi-public area should be in a little distance from nursing station and provide with furniture sets for the elderly informal interactions.

We present following research summary and implications through the analysis of the research. First, the before the opening of public cremation facilities compared to new opening of those, the number of the corpse cremation increases to annual average of 5.5% of the rate, and it has a positive effect on increasing rate of the cremation. Therefore, a policy of expanding the supply of public cremation facilities should be pursued to improve cremation rate in the area of uninstalled public cremation facilities. Second, the before the opening of public cremation facilities compared to new opening of those, the number of the corpse cremation has increased to the annual average 3,623 people(56.9%) at jurisdiction area, while it has decreased to 949 people (28.3%) at the out of the jurisdiction area. The active efforts and building the funding expansion should be made to establish public cremation facilities of the central and local governments to improve convenience of the use of public cremation facilities. Third, since the before and after opening of public cremation facilities at Jeongeup City lead to great effect on demand of jurisdiction area and out of the jurisdiction area, the cremation demand should be reduced through the supply expansion of public cremation facilities and differentiation strategy to control cremation demand at the out of the jurisdiction area, focusing on metropolitan areas with high cremation demand, such as metropolitan areas or metropolitan cities.
In this era of information, the public library takes a important role in the local community. In several years, public libraries have been proliferated in our society. However, there have not been specific planning standards of space size for construction of public library. The situation has lead the local governments to the need of consulting for the construction and management of library in search of appropriate guideline. The research paper focuses on the result of consulting support project for construction and management of public library. It examines total 11 libraries which were consulted from 2009 to 2011. It examines the configurational differences between the first scheme from the local government and the final scheme after the consulting, and the percentages of gross areas of each parts of library, reference and reading area, office area, education and cultural area, and public common use area. The analysis concludes that reference and reading area increased by 6.4% from 34.1% to 40.5%, and public common use area reduced by 6.1% from 30.2% to 24.1%, which represents a certain tendency of the configuration ratio of the each parts. Thus, the paper could be a starting point of establishing planning standard of space size for public library.

Purpose: Health examination centers of regional public hospitals are essential facilities for strengthening preventive medical services in local communities. This study is to organize architectural planning data related to function, space, and area composition of health examination center by the size of the regional public hospitals. Methods: The literature review on the function and spatial composition of the health examination center and the drawings of the regional public hospitals were analyzed. Results: The result of this study can be summarized into several points. 1) The function of the health examination center consists of a diagnostic area, patient area, and staff area based on general examination and comprehensive examination. 2) The type of spatial composition of the 300-bed public hospital examination center is a spatial linkage type with examination rooms of the other departments where general examination and comprehensive examination are undifferentiated. 3) The examination center of public hospitals with 500 beds or more is composed of an independent space-separated type with self-installed examination rooms, and general examination and comprehensive examination are divided. 4) The examination center of public hospitals with 300 beds around, the diagnostic area occupies most of the total area, around 80%, but in public hospitals with 500 beds or more, the proportion of diagnostic area drops to 50-60%, and patient area increases to 30-40%. Implications: The examination center planning of public hospitals requires an architectural planning approach to the function and spatial composition according to the size of the hospital.

Public transportation network in our country is concentrated and advanced focusing on urban area in order to secure economic feasibility. As a result, as dependence on private vehicles is relatively getting higher in public transportation vulnerable area, traffic problem occurs since the average running speed in urban area is 22.5km/h. This paper has an objective to suggest an improvement plan by selecting public transportation vulnerable area, and defining according to urban structure, formation and function, and understand traffic characteristics and draw problems. As a method selecting public transportation vulnerable area, an area with high division rate of vehicle was selected as a primary proposed site by calculating division rate of means of public transportation according to area. Final proposed site was selected by using GIS Buffering technique aiming at selected proposed site, and selecting non-benefit area 500m outside, which is the road limit distance from each subway and bus station. Lastly, the degree of improvement effect was studied by constructing imaginary public transportation network aiming at final proposed site and comparing to the amount of change in division rate of means of transportation.

Purpose: To improve and establish functions for public health centers in rural public, an analysis will be done on arrangement plan and area by function for public health centers in farming and fishing villages. After finding out this relationship and architectural characteristics, spatial organization and area ratio for providing efficient medical service and the relationship between the two will be examined. Methods: 8 of them were selected and site visit and interview with the person in charge were conducted to investigate the current status. The drawings collected for analysis were input as CAD data and schematized. The relationship between the arrangement type and area for the public health centers in farming and fishing villages was analyzed and based on this, an analysis was done on agricultural scale and characteristics, and putting these analyzed results together, an appropriate method of improvement was proposed for spatial organization by function for public health centers in farming and fishing villages and to provide efficient service. Results: Firstly, the Plan types found in the public health centers in farming and fishing villages could be classified into three including single-type, multiple-type and radial-type. Secondly, according to an analysis of areas by function, in the case of treatment function, there was a difference in the area ration for selective treatment. This ratio is considered to be greatly influenced by the project each public health center focuses on. Thirdly, I could become aware of the relationship between spatial organization and area ratio based on the analysis of arrangement and area derived above. Implication: As the data to refer to in future research on spatial organization for public health centers, if the object of analysis becomes more expanded and investigated, it will be utilized in detail for spatial planning of public health centers, thereby being expected to contribute to more efficient and qualitatively enhanced medical service provided by public health centers.

Based on the results of this study, we presented the following policy recommendations to improve the efficiency of operation and management of public cremation facilities. First, we findings the cremation number of all public cremation facilities in Gyeonggi-do increased from 39,918 people before the opening of public cremation facilities in Hwaseong to 55,642 people after the opening, showing a high rate of increase of 15,724 people(39.4%). Therefore, in order to increase the cremation ratio, the policy of expanding the supply of public cremation facilities should be actively pursued. Second, in this study we compared to before the opening of public cremation facilities in Hwaseong City, the ratio of cremation number the jurisdiction area of all public cremation facilities in Gyeonggi-do using the E-Haneul Funeral Information System increased by 19.0% from 35.9% to 54.9% after the opening, whereas it was analyzed that the outside of the jurisdiction area decreased by 19.0% from 64.1% to 45.1%. Therefore, in order to improve the convenience of citizens using the jurisdiction area, priority should be given to the promotion of policies for the establishment of public cremation facilities by local governments that do not have public cremation facilities. Third, through we research it is analyzed that the cremation ratio of the jurisdiction area of the public cremation facilities in Hwaseong City, which was jointly installed by six local governments located in Gyeonggi-do, was 92.4%, indicating that the ratio proportion of cremation number in the area is very high. Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency of the operation of public cremation facilities, the promotion of policies for joint installation and operation of public cremation facilities should be encouraged.

Purpose: To establish the building guidelines and to analyze the function of Regional Public Hospitals, the survey was conducted primarily on the current status focusing on the location and relationship of the department, area composition ratio, area per bed, and area per operating room. Methods: The research methods of this paper are as follows. 1) A literature survey on the function of the operating and related departments, 2) A drawing analysis for spatial composition and net area calculation. Results: The area of the Operation Department in the Regional Public Hospitals with 200 to 300 beds are as follows. Area ratio: 3.35%, area per Bed: 2.53㎡/bed, the number of beds per operating room: 64.37bed, area per operating room: 146.46㎡/n, area per operating room by plan type: integration corridor 133.84㎡/n, separation corridor 184.82㎡/n. Implications: This paper analyzed data on the current state of Operation Departments for setting up the function and role for the Regional Public Hospital. In the future, it is also required to provide size that takes into account user behavior and the user's psychological aspect in order to suggest appropriate area.
Currently, there is no facility standard for a city public health center. The facility standard of rural public health center is referred to architectural plan of city public health center. This study is about architectural plan of the city public health center and have been in 7 public health centers in Daegu investigated. Conclusions can be summarized as follows: 1) The Mother and child hygienic section, area ratio which is presented by the facility standard of rural public health center must be increased in case of city public health center since function-reinforcement of the mother and child hygienic section is required. 2) Business section, the area ratio which is presented by the facility standard of rural public health center must be diminished for city public health center because it has been excessively allocated.

The purpose of this study was to identify the perceptions on 'Dagagu' Housing Purchase and Public Rental Program of public officials and professionals in the area of social welfare to suggest ideas for improvement of this program. Data were collected from 146 public officials and 108 professionals in the area of social welfare. Respondents showed that the perception on this program was not high, especially respondents working in Seoul showed lower perceptions than respondents in other localities in spite of experience of pilot program executed in Seoul. Respondents also thought that this program will take an realistic role to improve housing welfare for urban poor. Other opinions to practice this program were also suggested.
