Objective: This study is to understand medical management method in shipbuilding industry. Background: In shipbuilding industry, medical management for prevention of work-related musculoskeletal diseases due to limitations of engineering measures may be important measure. Results: Medical management of musculoskeletal diseases can be divided into primary, secondary, tertiary preventions. Primary preventions consist of symptom survey, appropriate work placement with work capacity evaluation, health promotion. Second preventions are early detection of symptomatic patient and appropriate treatment. Tertiary preventions are rehabilitation treatment and early return-to-work by return-to-work evaluation. In addition, patients with psychological counseling for emotional problems are needed. Conclusion: Medical management measures such as improving the work environment to be made are expected to exert greater effects.
The purpose of this study was to identify basic data for the health fare of normal pregnant women. The number of subjects was 779 pregnant women who received prenatal care in two University hospitals. The data, which were collected from June to October, 1998. and used the questionnaire “Symptom Table on Fatigue Perception” designed by the Research Committee of the Industial Fatigue in Hygienic. Association of Japan Industry. The collected data were scored by use of means and standard deviations according to the subjective symptoms of fatigue and each item as an independent variable was analysed by t-test and ANOVA test. The results are as follows : 1) Degree of subjective fatigue showed as an average of 1.81. Fatigue as physical symptoms had the highest score with 2.09. followed by neuro-sensory symptoms, 1.69 and psychological symptoms had the lowest score 1.66. 2) With the respect to the general characteristics of the subjects. there were statiscally significant difference in experience of pregnancy(t=-2.286, p=.023). wanted pregnancy(t=-2.935, p=.004), parity(t=-2.429, p=.015), sleeping time(F=3.478, p=.031). and presence of other child(t=2.347, p=0.19).
The purpose of this study was to investigate job stressors, job stress symptoms, and job performance of workers in fashion industry. The data were obtained from questionnaire completed by 529 workers who were employed in textile or clothing manufactures located in Seoul, Daegu, Busan, and Masan area. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which included frequency, mean, correlation, and factor analysis. Job stressors consisted of environmental related stressors, job related stressors(task characteristics and role characteristics) and organization related stressors(organization climate and career development). Most of job stressors were significantly correlated with job stress symptoms but their correlation coefficients were low. Among job stressors, quantitative work overload was found to be a major stressor. Workers in fashion industry appeared to evaluate their job performance relatively good. Also, it was found that behavioral and psychological symptoms were negatively correlated with job performance.
A reserch scale of 48 items selected from MMPI by McCall et al. was used to compare psychologic aspects of 80 patients with MPDS to control I subjects and control II subjects. For this, study subjects were selected 80 patients of MPDS who visited the Dept. of Dentistry. K.N.U.H., from December in 1982 to September in 1983. Control I subjects were selected 80 outpatients without MPDS who required dental treatment from December in 1982 to September in 1983. And control II subjects were selected 80 persons without MPDS who required no dental treatment and lived in Taegu. The results were as follow : In study subjects, somatic gruop and behavioral group are markedly high than control (I,II)subjects. In somatic group and behavioral group, there was no significant differencd between control I subjects and control II subjects. In somatics group and begavioral group, there was no significant difference between male and female in each subjects: In study subject, general nature somatic category was higher than head, neck, throat and GIT somatic category.(P<0.05) In study subjects, somatic group and behavioral group gradually increased according to increase in number of MPDS symptom.
Film music expresses the inner mentality of characters and performs a suggestive role of narrative. This study suggests the process of musical change according to the psychological change of the characters in the movie "The Hours" by Stephen Daldry. These musical elements depending on the mental states prove that the minute differences of each depression symptom could be expressed using symbolic methods of musical elements.
Pain is the most common symptom that brings a patient to the hospital. Repetitious stress and sprain injury result in various pains, and so we tried to improve cervical movement and release from pain by using taping technique of actual agonists and postural muscles in addition to psychological relaxation. The 4 patient with neck problems were applied Arikawa taping approaches. The flexor or extensor patterns were determined by Arikawa method at first. if the symptoms and patterns were similar, the taping was attached same point. After taping on major muscles of causing neck pain levator scapula, scalenus medius, sternocleidomastoid, splenius capitis, semispinalis capitis. - we found neck pain released and cervical ROM increased. In conclusion, we determined cervical movement related to rotation of splenius capitis, extention of semispinalis capitis, levator scapula, flexion and rotation of scalenus medius.
Chronic abdominal pain (CAP) is a common complaint encountered in pediatric clinics and a great concern for patients and their caretakers as well as health care professionals. A constant challenge is detecting individuals with organic diseases or psychosomatic disorders from the majority of patients who have a functional disorder including functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, functional abdominal pain, and abdominal migraine. Beginning with a detailed history and physical examination, physicians must determine a differential diagnosis of CAP by applying the symptom-based Rome III criteria to positively identify a functional disorder. These findings should then be further analyzed based on diagnostic clues and red flags that indicate the presence of specific organic diseases and/or the need for further testing. Once a functional diagnosis has been made or an organic disease is suspected, physicians can initiate an empiric therapeutic trial. Since psychological distress accompanies both organic and non-organic abdominal pain in children, a cooperative diagnostic approach involving pediatricians and psychiatrists is recommended.
Personality characteristics of TMD patients was studied through the SCL-90-R. III patients were subjected at the Orofacial Pain Clinic, Dept. of Oral Medicine, PNUH, from 1991 to 1996. All the TMD patients were divided and analyzied comparatively by the ways of duration of present illness, severity of symptoms, associated symptoms, traumatic contributing factor, history of treatment, treatment modality, response to therapy and treatment outcomes. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Mean value of T-scores on 9 basic scales in all the groups was within normal range. 2. There showed higher levels of T-scores in the chronic group, the unimproved group and the discontinued group. 3. T-scores in the patients with severe symptom, associated symptoms, and history of treatment revealed higher.

Functional dysphonia (FD) is a voice disorder in the absence of structural or neurologic laryngeal pathology. FD is not a single disease but a disease entity. Therefore several voice disorders, which have completely different pathogenesis, are included in this category. The first step of treatment of FD is differentiating patient's voice symptoms from other organic voice disorders and other functional voice problems. Several different treatment modalities are included in the managements of FD. Voice therapy is in charge of the main role in treatment of FD. Medical treatment is also necessary when patient has general problems which would affect voice production. Vocal folds mucosal lesions can cause FD even the lesion is minor. In this case proper surgical intervention helps to improve the symptom of FD. Psychiatric consultation should be considered when the patient has psychological problems.
Previous research has identified the biological, psychological, and social factors that confer an elevated risk for suicide. Evidence suggests that sleep disturbances are one of the risk factors that predict an increased risk for suicidal behaviors. Both sleep disorders and general sleep complaints are linked to higher levels of suicidal ideation and depression, as well as increased rates of suicide and suicide attempts. The causal mechanism of this association is not clear. For example, it is not known if insomnia is an independent phenomenon that if interrupted could prevent the emergence of a mental disorder, or if insomnia is a symptom of another developing illness. Hypofrontality, HPA dysfunction, and an impaired serotonergic system are potential mechanisms underlying the association of sleep disturbances and suicidal behavior. Future research is necessary to examine the specific mechanism of this association between sleep and suicide, which may lead to an effective intervention and diminished suicide risk.
