Statistical analysis methods, convergent validity test, structural equation model analysis, and model fit were performed using independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, confirmatory factor analysis, structural model fit test, and path analysis. Results: The lower the role conflict of dental hygienists and the higher the positive psychological capital, the higher the psychological well-being. The lower the role conflict, the higher the positive psychological capital. However, there was no mediating effect between positive psychological capital and role conflict, as it was not statistically significant. Analysis of the total effect of role conflict and positive psychological capital on psychological well-being revealed that positive psychological capital had a greater influence on psychological well-being than role conflict. Conclusions: Psychological well-being was related to positive psychological capital and role conflict. Future efforts are needed to improve positive psychological capital and psychological well-being of dental hygienists and reduce role conflict.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of parenting on job satisfaction and psychological well-being in employed women, with moderating effects of marital stress. The present study was based on a sample of 258 full-time employed women aged 30-49 in dual-earner families. The effects of parenting experiences on job satisfaction and psychological well-being were examined separately for women with low and high marital stress. Both parenting rewards and costs were significantly associated with psychological well-being in women with high marital stress. For women with low marital stress, parenting rewards and costs did not predict psychological well-being. Among women with high marital stress, parenting rewards were positively associated with psychological well-being and parenting costs were negatively associated with psychological well-being. In contrast, only parenting costs were a good predictor of job satisfaction for women with high marital stress. In conclusion, the effects of parenting experiences on job satisfaction and psychological well-being were mediated by the level of marital stress in employed women.

Secondly, it was found that the self esteem of elderly women affected psychological well-being and that the higher the participants perceived self esteem, the higher the level of psychological well-being. Thirdly, family support appeared to have a moderating effect in relation to self esteem and psychological well-being. As it were, the higher the perception level of elderly women was, the higher impact of their self esteem on their psychological well-being. Therefore, there needs to be a re-consideration of the importance of family support which is being weakened due to family nuclearization as well as mechanisms for improving family support.

  • This study was examined the general trends in social activity participation, the flow degree, and the psychological well-being of middle-aged women in Korea and explored how psychological well-being varies according to various sociodemographic variables, social activity participation, and the flow degree. This study provided practical insights into how the psychological well-being of middle-aged women can be enhanced. Data were gathered from 302 middle-aged women between the ages of 40 and 60 by using a structural questionnaire. The statistical methods included a descriptive analysis, a t-test, and a regression analysis using SPSS WIN 18.0. According to the results of the hierarchical regression analysis, the key variables influencing the psychological well-being of middle-aged women included the flow degree in terms of social activity participation and the education level. These variables explained 30% of the psychological well-being of middle-aged women. The higher the education level and the flow degree, the stronger the psychological well-being was. Social activity participation and the flow degree had greater effects on psychological well-being than sociodemographic characteristics. In particular, an increase in the flow of social activities increased psychological well-being. This suggests a need to improve the psychological well-being of middle-aged women by providing them with an environment where they can play social roles. One way to accomplish this is by linking retraining and life-long education-related activities to employment or volunteer activities. This study demonstrates the importance of the flow degree for the psychological well-being of middle-aged women. The results have important policy and theoretical implications.

  • This study examined the differences of elderly workers' psychological well-being according to gender and explored the variables which account for their psychological well-being. Paid laborers aged 60 or older(eight-five men and nine-eight females) were interviewed. The psychological well-being of male workers was higher than that of the female workers. The control level of activity and family support were the variables that explained the psychological well-being of male paid workers. The higher the control level of activity was, and the more support given from family, the higher the psychological well-being scores they showed. Educational level, demand level of activity, and material reward determined the psychological well-being of female workers. The higher their educational level was, the lower the demand level of activity was, and the fewer rewards they received from paid work, the higher their psychological well-being was.
