  • This paper proposes a navigation strategy of multiple autonomous mobile robots with communication within a specified space. Assuming that each robot has complete detectability with finite range, simple navigation strategy is derived by introducing repulsive forces between robots and attractive force between a robot and its goal point analogous to those between electric charges. When a robot is close to its goal point, a pseudo-domain based on the distance between the closest point of the domain boundary and the goal point is proposed to enhance its convergence to the goal state. This paper concludes with the results of computer simulation studies on the dynamic behavior of multiple interacting robots with the proposed navigation strategy.

  • A computer program named \"NLDA-BIS\", which runs under the MATLAB environment, is developed fur seismic response analysis of base isolated structures. This program can explicitly model the various nonlinear isolation elements such as elastomeric bearings, sliding bearings and general viscous dampers, and so on. Newmark'\`s constant average acceleration method fur calculating the responses in time domain and the iterative pseudo-force method for treating the nonlinear isolation forces are adopted. For capturing the hysteretic behavior of isolation elements, the modified Wen's equations are adopted and solved by the numerical differentiation formula method. To verify the validity of the developed program, the seismic responses of a six-story reinforced concrete base isolated structure are calculated and compared with results obtained by the program \"3D-BASIS\" developed at the State University of New York at Buffalo which is the most widely used code far analyzing isolated structures today.ed structures today.

  • Class III malocclusions are difficult to treat and take more time than any other types. But if such problems are detected at the earliest opportunity, we may gain the best possible correction consistent with the limitations imposed by morphogenetic pattern. The question of whether a patient has false or real Class III malocclusion is not important. Therapy wilt eleminate the malrelationship, in any event. Graber said, 'It has been my experience that many so-called 'pseudo' Class III's are full-blown Class III's later on during the prolific growth period.' The authors have attempted early treatment of a Class III malocclusion of 8-year old girl, who has the familial history of Class III malocclusion.

  • Gas-Liquid multiphase flow simulation has been carried out using the Lattice boltzmann method. For the interface treatment, pseudo-potential model (Shan-Chen) was used with the Carnahan-Starling equation of state. Exact Difference Method also applied for the treatment of the force term. Through the developed code, we simulated coexsitence structure of high and low density, phase separation, surface tension effect, characteristics of moving interface, homogeneous and heterogeneous cavitation and bubble collaps.

  • The numerical solution of the Stokes equation with discontinuous viscosity and singular force term is challenging, due to the discontinuity of pressure, non-smoothness of velocity, and coupled discontinuities along interface. In this paper, we give an efficient algorithm to solve this problem by employing spectral Legendre and Chebyshev approximations.First, we present the algorithm for a problem defined in rectangular domain with straight line interface. Then it is generalized to a domain with smooth curve boundary and interface by employing spectral element method. Numerical experiments demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of our algorithm and its spectral convergence.

  • Although earthquakes generate random cyclic lateral loading on structures, a quasi-static cyclic loading pattern with gradually increasing amplitude has been commonly used in the laboratory tests because of its relatively low cost and simplicity compared with pseudo-dynamic and shake table tests. The number, amplitudes and sequence of cycles must be chosen appropriately as important parameters of a quasi-static cyclic loading pattern in order to account for cumulative damage matter. This paper aims to reach a new cyclic displacement pattern to be used in quasi-static tests of well-confined, flexure-dominated reinforced concrete (RC) columns. The main parameters of the study are sectional dimensions, percentage of longitudinal reinforcement, axial force intensity and earthquake types, namely, far-fault and near-fault.

  • When tag privacy is required in radio frequency identification (ID) system, a reader needs to identify, and optionally authenticate, a multitude of tags without revealing their IDs. One approach for identification with lightweight tags is that each tag performs pseudo-random function with his unique embedded key. In this case, a reader (or a back-end server) needs to perform a brute-force search for each tag-reader interaction, whose cost gets larger when the number of tags increases. In this paper, we suggest a simple and efficient identification technique that reduces readers computation to $O$(${\sqrt{N}}$ log$N$) without increasing communication cost. Our technique is based on the well-known "meet-in-the-middle" strategy used in the past to attack symmetric ciphers.

  • Pseudorandom numbers are useful in cryptographic operations for using as nonce, initial vector, secret key, etc. Security of the cryptosystem relies on the secret key parameters, so a good pseudorandom number is needed. In this paper, we have proposed a new approach for generation of pseudorandom number. This method uses the three dimensional combinational puzzle Rubik Cube for generation of random numbers. The number of possible combinations of the cube approximates to 43 quintillion. The large possible combination of the cube increases the complexity of brute force attack on the generator. The generator uses cryptographic hash function. Chaotic map is being employed for increasing random behavior. The pseudorandom sequence generated can be used for cryptographic applications. The generated sequences are tested for randomness using NIST Statistical Test Suite and other testing methods. The result of the tests and analysis proves that the generated sequences are random.

  • A preliminary study is conducted to develop seismic design guidelines for temporary retaining structures in a deep excavation. The study involved a comprehensive literature review of the seismic design standards applied domestically and internationally, as well as various methods to calculate seismic earth pressure for pseudostatic analysis. The FLAC 2D, a two-dimensional finite difference analysis program, was utilized to perform pseudostatic analysis using the Semirigid pressure method, Wood method, and Mononobe-Okabe method. The resulting analysis data for the wall moment and axial force of the strut were compared with the dynamic analysis outcomes to evaluate the applicability of pseudostatic analysis. The Semirigid pressure method predicted the most reasonable moment for Stiff walls experiencing horizontal displacements up to 0.4%H. Predicting the axial force of the strut exactly was challenging because the pseudostatic analysis cannot consider dynamic soil-structure interaction; however, it is deemed available for conservative preliminary review to ensure safety.

  • Long cylinder, subjected to internal pressure, is important in the analysis and design of nuclear fuel rod structures. In many cases, long cylinder problems have been considered as a plane strain condition. However, strictly speaking, long cylinder problems are not plane strain problems, but rather a general plane strain (GPS) condition, which is a combination of a plane strain state and a uniform strain state. The magnitude of the uniform axial strain is required, in order to make the summation of the axial force zero. Although there has been the GPS element, this paper proposes a general technique to solve long cylinder problems, using several pseudo-general plane strain (PGPS) elements. The conventional GPS elements and PGPS elements employed are as follows: axisymmetric GPS element (GA3), axisymmetric PGPS element (PGA8/6), 2-D GPS element (GIO), 3-D PGPS element (PG20/16), and reduced PGPS elements (RPGA6, RPG20/16). In particular, PGPS elements (PGA8/6, PG20/16) can be applied in periodic structure problems. These finite elements are tested, using several kinds of examples, thereby confirming the validity of the proposed finite element models.
