  • The aim of the current study is to look at the mediating effects of structural features (i.e. decentralization, formalization, and specialization) on the relationship between product variety and the performance of product family. This study investigates the impact of decentralization and formalization for platform and derivative projects separately and in the context of the performance of the product family as a whole, as opposed to individual projects. In addition to relationships between people and groups, the current study considers physical element of an organization such as geographical location in which business tasks are conducted. The current study focuses on spatial differentiation which refers to the number of different sites or locations operated by an organization. Based on a cross-industry sample of 103 Korean manufacturers, this study examines the role of organizational structure features in which firms successfully increase product variety. The study examines that formalization in platform projects and decentralization in derivative projects enhance high variety firms' product family performance. The study finds significant mediating effect of spatial proximity on the relationship between product variety and product family performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the integrated heritage conservation actually affected the urban economy of historical cities. To this end, this study examined the trends and meanings of an integrated heritage conservation, and a relationship between sustainable urban development and integrated heritage conservation to find out connectivity with urban economy. Before an empirical analysis of domestic policy of integrated conservation of heritage, this study overlooked the system of the preservation and promotion of ancient cities, which can be called integrated heritage conservation system in Korea, and examined how the historic landscape improving project, which is being implemented as part of the policy of the preservation and promotion of ancient cities, actually affected the urban economy. This study empirically identified the impact of the project through a land price analysis of the region. This study focused on analyzing an impact of the project on a price of land in the proximity of subsidized land lot and analyzed the impact through Difference-In-Difference method. In particular, the project effect was analyzed only for the settlement zones among the preservation and promotion zones where the project was carried out, and as a result, it was confirmed that the average price of lands in the proximity of subsidized land increased more over the same period than in the areas where the project was not intensively implemented.

  • The Urban Heat Island (UHI) Effect has intensified due to urbanization and heat management at the urban level is treated as an important issue. Green space improvement projects and environmental policies are being implemented as a way to alleviate Urban Heat Islands. Several studies have been conducted to analyze the correlation between urban green areas and heat with linear regression models. However, linear regression models have limitations explaining the correlation between heat and the multitude of variables as heat is a result of a combination of non-linear factors. This study evaluated the Heat Island alleviating effects in Seoul during the summer by using a deep neural network model methodology, which has strengths in areas where it is difficult to analyze data with existing statistical analysis methods due to variable factors and a large amount of data. Wide-area data was acquired using Landsat 8. Seoul was divided into a grid (30m × 30m) and the heat island reduction variables were enter in each grid space to create a data structure that is needed for the construction of a deep neural network using ArcGIS 10.7 and Python3.7 with Keras. This deep neural network was used to analyze the correlation between land surface temperature and the variables. We confirmed that the deep neural network model has high explanatory accuracy. It was found that the cooling effect by NDVI was the greatest, and cooling effects due to the park size and green space proximity were also shown. Previous studies showed that the cooling effects related to park size was 2℃-3℃, and the proximity effect was found to lower the temperature 0.3℃-2.3℃. There is a possibility of overestimation of the results of previous studies. The results of this study can provide objective information for the justification and more effective formation of new urban green areas to alleviate the Urban Heat Island phenomenon in the future.

  • Until 1993, Nanji landfill has been the main solid waste treatment facility for Seoul, which is the capital of Korea. Since the landfill has not been properly lined, soil and ground water around the landfill has been contaminated. Due to the proximity, it has been speculated that the water quality of the Han River would have been also influenced by the leachate. In order to illuminate this, HELP model to estimate the quantity of the leachate from Nanji landfill and RMA model to simulate the change of water quality in Han River were applied in this research. The result indicates that the quantity of leachate from Nanji landfill has been overestimated by previous works and it was due to the failure to consider the water storage capacity of the landfill. The effect from Nanji landfill leachate on the water quality, in terms of COD input, proves to be smaller than those from other tributaries and influents to the River and the effect is larger when the flow of the River is reversed due to the tide.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the interference effects due to tandem rotor's overlap in the forward flight. To resolve the instabilities caused by close proximity of the wake to the blade surface, the field velocity approach is implemented to the existing unsteady panel code coupled with a time-marching free wake model. The modified code is then used to investigate the effects of the selected parameters on the forward flight performance of the tandem rotor. The calculated results for rotor separation effect indicate that stagger(d/D) appears to have little effects on the forward flight performance at high advance ratio and the square of gap(H/D) is inversely proportional to overlap induced power factor. In addition, it is also shown that the overlap induced power factor increases to a certain extent and decrease back as the advance ratio increases.

  • The effect of $Cd^2+$ on chlorophyll content, water potentials, ion transport, photosynthesis, stomatal apertures and $Cd^2+$ accumulation of organs in Commelina communis was investigated. 3-weeks old Commelina. communis was transferred to and grown in Hoagland solution in the presence or absence of 5 mM $Cd^2+$ for 4 days. $Cd^2+$ was accumulated in all parts of the organs including leaves, roots and stem. The proximity from the root and the age of leaf were significant factors responsible for the distribution of cadmium. Most of $Cd^2+$ was accumulated in the first leaf which was the nearest from the root. $Cd^2+$) accumulation in the leaves led to significant reductions in a series of physiological metabolism. $Cd^2+$ reduced total chlorophyll content up to 70%, and changed chlorophyll a/b ratio to 2. $Cd^2+$ also reduced about 20% of water potential. The treatment of $Cd^2+$ showed about 60% inhibition of photosynthetic activity when measured at various light intensity (100-1,000 $\mu$mol $Em^-2s^-1$). Similar effect was found in terms of stomatal conductance. Therefore, it could be concluded that the treatment of $Cd^2+$ decrease or block various physiological activities. • We designed the flyback planar transformer, which had 8 W capacity, with 70 V input voltage and 8.2 V output voltage for the establishment of design method and the confirmation of application possibility. The numerical value of inductance measured under the switching frequency of 120 kHz was 1650 $\mu$H, which was the inductance efficiency of'85∼87% against theoretical value. The A.C. resistance of primary and secondary coil was 4.2 Ω and 0.25 Ω respectively, On the other hand, the quality factor for each wound numbers showed quite a high value of 158 and 75 respectively. And the Coupling Factor was 0.96∼0.97 under 120 kHz switching frequency. The inductance rapidly increased as the thickness of the core plane increased until it became 1.4 mm but under the thickness more than 1.4 mm, there was no substantial change. Therefore, the critical value of the plane thickness of core was 1.4 mm. And the shape of the output wave of the planar transformer at 70V input voltage was a stable square wave.

  • The spatial distribution of precipitation trends according to urbanization, geographical and topographical conditions have been studied. In this study, precipitation data from 1973 to 2006 were analyzed for 56 climatological stations including the Seoul metropolis in South Korea. In addition to annual average daily precipitation, monthly average daily precipitation in April, July, October and January were analyzed, considering seasonal effect. The geographical and topographical characteristics of these sites were examined using GIS analysis. Land use status of the study area was also examined to estimate the extent of urbanization. The study results indicate that annual average precipitation increased, and monthly average precipitation in April and October decreased, while those in January and July increased. Considering urbanization effect, annual average precipitation and monthly average precipitation in July increased; however, monthly average precipitation in January, April and October decreased. Furthermore, compared with urbanization rate and proximity to coast, average elevation of study area appeared to be the most close correlation with annual and monthly averages of precipitation trends.

  • To supply safe drinking water to areas lacking in water supply and drainage system, such as rural area and military bases in proximity to Demilitarized Zone, effective method for treating organic contaminants such as MTBE is required. This study focuses on seeking optimal conditions for effective degradation of MTBE using a bath type ultrasound reactor. Effectiveness of MTBE degradation by ultrasound is dependent on the frequency, power, temperature, treatment volume, initial concentration, catalyst, etc. In this study the degradation rate of MTBE by ultrasound was proportional to power/unit volume ratio and removal is relatively more efficient for 0.1 mM than for 1 mM of MTBE solution. Efficiency of ultrasound treatment for 1 mM MTBE solution was enhanced under bath temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ compared to $4^{\circ}C$, but the temperature effect was negligible for 0.1 mM MTBE solution. Also for 0.1 mM MTBE solution, effect of catalyst such as $TiO_2$ and $Fe^0$ on treatment speed was negligible, and zeolite even increases the time taken for the degradation. Under these specific experimental conditions of this study, the most determinant factor for degradation rate of MTBE in solution was frequency and power of ultrasound. The results have shown that a continuous ultrasound reactor system can be used for small scale remediation of organically polluted groundwater, under optimal conditions.
