  • Exhibition industry is important business domains to many countries. Not only lots of countries designated the exhibition industry as tools to stimulate national economics, but also many companies offer millions of service or products to customers. Recommender systems can help visitors navigate through large information spaces of various booths. However, no study before has proposed a methodology for identifying and acquiring prospective visitors although it is important to acquire them. Accordingly, we propose a methodology for identifying, acquiring prospective visitors, and recommending the adequate booth information to their preferences in the exhibition industry. We assume that a visitor will be interested in an exhibition within same class of exhibition taxonomy as exhibition which the visitor already saw. Moreover, we use user-based collaborative filtering in order to recommend personalized booths before exhibition. A prototype recommender system is implemented to evaluate the proposed methodology. Our experiments show that the proposed methodology is better than the item-based CF and have an effect on the choice of exhibition or exhibit booth through automation of word-of-mouth communication.

  • We analyzed errors committed by Korean prospective elementary teachers in finding and interpreting quotient and remainder within measurement division of fractions. 65 prospective elementary teachers were participated in this study. They solved a word problem about measurement division of fractions. We analyzed solutions of all participants, and interviewed 5 participants of them. The results reveal many of these prospective teachers could not tell what fractional part of division result means. Thses results suggest that teacher preparation program should emphasize interpreting calculation results within given situations.

  • The study analyzed the consciousness of mortgage loan of the prospective home-buying households using self-administered questionnaire surveys. The sample of the survey was chosen by convenience sampling method to be 366 prospective home-buying households in Ulsan, with the households head's age being younger than 50. These are the results. First, approximately 80% of the respondents had plans to buy a house through self-support and loan. Second, the consciousness of mortgage loan was relatively low, but the willingness to use it was very high. Third, the need for mortgage loan was relatively high, especially the need for specialists to facilitate the information circulation. Lastly, the awareness and need for mortgage loan were significantly influenced by the family and housing characteristics of households including family life cycle stages, the structure of dwelling, tenure type and monthly household income. It is necessary to provide potential house buyers with appropriate education and information on housing financing, the change of interest rate, and the effects of various financing packages.

  • Prospective memory is memory for activities to be performed in the future, such as remembering to purchase a piece of fruit on the way home or remembering to give someone a telephone message. Due to the decrease in memory ability, the aged have difficulty in remembering the tasks they intended to perform in the future. Employing survey and experimental methods, we identified the UI requirements for enhancing prospective memory (PM) performance for the aged. The survey included subjective assessments of PM performance for the aged and their preferred usability components and PM-supporting systems in an ubiquitous computing environment. The experiment examined the effect of contextual cues on PM performance for the young and the aged. Practical implications of our results were discussed in the respects of PM-supporting UI design requirements for the aged.

  • How a pre-service teacher understands and comments on mathematics instruction can serve as the foundation of her teaching expertise. Given that prospective teachers observe demonstrative mathematics teaching implemented by an in-service teacher and make a comment on it during their practicum period, this paper specified the levels of their ability in commenting on mathematics instruction and explored the characteristics of such levels. It is significant that this paper provides a systematic and comprehensive analysis of such levels in terms of topic, agent, stance, evidence, and alternative perspective. The results of this study showed that the commenting levels may be classified by Level 1 (fragmentary), Level 2 (inspective), and Level 3 (analytical), and that the most frequent level of this study was at Level 2. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that stance is the most influential in determining the levels of comments among their analytic components. An analysis of the participants' anecdotes showed that the experience of observing demonstrative teaching during the practicum may have impact on the belief of mathematics instruction and self-image as a teacher. Building on these results, this paper provides implications of teacher preparation programs to enhance prospective teachers' ability to analyze elementary mathematics lessons.

  • Although teacher preparation programs are important for prospective teachers to build a foundation of teaching expertise, there has been lack of research in this area. This paper analyzed in what ways prospective teachers' ability in describing and commenting on elementary mathematics instruction has been changed while they were taking in the course of teaching elementary school mathematics. The results of this study showed that in late description the teachers tended to notice the core flow of a lesson and the use of instructional strategies appropriate to the mathematical content to be taught. They also tended to comment on instructional strategies and mathematical discourse from the teacher's perspective and evaluated them without alternative approaches. A noticeable change occurred in late comments wherein prospective teachers considered both the teacher and students, supported their comments by theories they had learned through the course, and interpreted the classroom events they had noticed. Building on these results, this paper closes with implications of teacher education programs to enhance prospective teachers' ability to analyze elementary mathematics lessons.
