Since the introduction of electronically controlled engines and electric propulsion ships, the need for an uninterruptible power supply for emergency power supply devices that use batteries has gained importance. The bidirectional converter in such emergency power supply devices is a crucial component. This paper proposes, a topology for an improved DC-DC bidirectional converter that is characterized by a high voltage conversion ratio and low voltage stress of switches. To confirm the performance of the converter, a computer simulation was executed with PSIM software. The conversion ratio of the proposed converter was found to be four times higher than the conventional boost converter in step-up mode and one-fourth that of the conventional buck converter in step-down mode, and the voltage stress of the switches was one-fourth of the high-side voltage. Moreover, the proposed converter was confirmed to be able to distribute equal currents between two interleaved modules without using any extra current-sharing control method because of the charge balance of its blocking capacitors.

This study was focused on the estimations of air pollutants, such as PM(Particulate matters), SOx(Sulfur Oxides), $CO_2$(Carbon diOxides) and NOx(Nitrogen Oxides), from a diesel propulsion engine installed on a naval vessel. Legislative and regulatory actions for exhaust emissions from ships are being strengthened in international communities and national governments to protect human health and the environment. In this context, various technologies have been developed from all of the nations of the world to meet strict standards. These regulations are based on commercial ship applications and according to size, but are not suitable for military naval vessels, which have much different engine operating conditions and hull architectures. Additionally, there is no international emission control system for military ships. Emission factors have been updated for commercial ship types from work at various research institutes; however, it is difficult to develop emission factors for military vessels because of their characteristics. In this paper, exhaust emissions from diesel engines installed on naval vessels under steady navigation condition were estimated with emission inventory methodology applied to ocean going vessels using fuel-based methods and fuel sulfur content analysis.

Reliability prediction of an electronic arm fire device(EAFD) was studied which is applied to prevent accidental ignition in a solid rocket motor. For predicting the reliability, the main components of the EAFD were first defined(Control unit, LEEFI, TBI) and the operating principle of each component was analyzed. Performance modeling of each part is established using selected input variables through system analysis. When complex analysis is required, we approximated it with polynomial equation using response surface method. Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to performance modeling to estimate the design reliability.

For the multi-nozzle propulsion, the rupture pressure of nozzle closure has an effect on the initial strain rate of ignition. Moreover, the deviation of rupture pressure for each nozzle closure leads to side forces which can disturb the attitude control of rocket. When designed, it should be considered whether nozzle closures are ruptured equally and exactly in the intented pressure. In this paper, the rupture behavior is analyzed by analytical and experimental methods for plate and "+" notched nozzle closures. The rupture pressure and deviation for operating temperature, whether notched or not and notched directions are analyzed. This paper provides a comparison between rupture pressure prediction of finite elements method which tool is Abaqus/Explicit and results of the rupture test. Jonson-Cook shear failure model which corresponds to the damage initiation criterion were used in this simulation.
A very long test track is required for high-speed operation test of the real-scale Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) for ultra-high-speed trains. The required length results in huge construction cost and economic loss if any error occurs during development. Therefore, validation study of the LSM design technology using a low-cost small-scale model must be carried out in the early research stages. It is possible to deduce an optimal winding method for the armature and determine the mechanical properties of the LSM through a performance tester that applies a rotary-type small-scale LSM model. In addition, it is possible to utilize previous research on LSM control systems. Therefore, a basic design model, comprising a rotary-type LSM tester that meets the requirements for the propulsion of 600km/h-class ultra-high-speed trains, is derived in this study. Finally, an optimal model, which has a stable structure under the condition of 1500rpm or more high-speed rotation, is derived by electromagnetic and mechanical stiffness analysis.
In case of unmanned aerial vehicles used in modern society, there has been a problem where a human operator should be still needed to control the UAV because of a lower level of autonomy. In this paper, genetic algorithm is selected as a methodology for the autonomy accomplishment and then we verify a possibility of UAV autonomy by applying the GA. The landing is one of the important classical tasks on aerial vehicle and the lunar Landing is one of the most historical events. Autonomy possibility of computer-simulated UAV is verified by landing autonomy method of a falling body equipped with a propulsion system similar to the lunar Lander. When applying the GA, the genom is encoded only with 4 actions (left-turn, right-turn, thrust, and free-fall) and applied onto the falling body, Then we applied the major operations of GA and achieved a success experiment. A major contribution is to construct a simulated UAV where an autonomy of UAV can be accomplished while minimizing the sensor dependency. Also we implemented a test-bed where the possibility of autonomy accomplishment by applying the GA can be verified.

Gearboxes designed for reciprocating motion operating mechanisms operate under conditions where both the load and speed undergo continuous variations. When conducting durability tests on gearboxes designed for such applications, operating the target gearbox under conditions similar to the intended usage is essential. The gearbox must be operated for the required number of cycles to validate its durability under conditions mirroring its intended usage. This study devised an accelerated test method for gearboxes, which reduces operating angles and operational strokes. The reliability of the accelerated test was verified by comparing the stresses imposed on the gears under general and acceleration conditions through multi-body dynamic simulations. The results confirmed that the maximum contact stress levels under normal and accelerated conditions were within a 0.1% error range, indicating a minimal difference in the gear damage rates. However, a difference in the maximum contact stress results between the normal and accelerated conditions was observed when inertial forces acted on the output shaft due to the operational acceleration of the gearbox. Therefore, when conducting this acceleration test, caution should be exercised to ensure that the operational load on the gearbox, which affects inertia, does not significantly deviate from the conditions observed under normal operating conditions.

Recently, the growth in the propulsion power and propeller size of typical energy saving ships has resulted in severe damages of the oil-lubricated stern tube bearing. Consequently, a more rational analytical method for the design of the shafting system is required. In this paper an analytical method applicable to the design of the oil-lubricated stern tube bearing and shafting system is presented. The method consists of the finite element analysis of the shafting system and the oil film hydrodynamics. The shafting system is modeled as a three-dimensional problem using beam elements taking account for the steady components of thrust, lateral forces and moments of the propeller as well as the elastic foundation effects. The oil film hydrodynamics is modeled as a two-dimensional problem. Equal and retangular elements employing hourglass control method are used for the construction of the oil film fluidity matrix. To search the quasi-static equilibrium position between the propeller shaft and the oil film, an optimization technique is employed. Some numerical results based on the proposed method are compared with some measured and numerical data available. They show acceptable agreements with the data.
This study has analyzed the subjects of transportation technology problem solving activities at Energy and Transportation Technology unit in the 12 kinds of middle school Technology Home Economics textbooks of the 2009 national revised curriculum. An analysis frame was developed with systems and environmental mediums which are common elements of transportation and the subjects were analyzed. As a result of this study, first, 8 kinds of subjects among 20 subjects in analysis frame were suggested in the textbooks. Second, according to the environmental, there are 13 terrestrial activities, 2 atmospheric activities, and 1 marine activity in the textbooks. However, there is no space related activity. Third, according to the system, there are 13 activities for the structure, 12 activities for the propulsion and suspension system, 5 activities related to the control system, and 1 activity regarding guidance system. Fourth, there are 4 kinds of problem solving activities depending on categorizing result of the analysis of the activities.
