  • This paper presents a workload based model and cell design support system (CDSS) in manufacturing cell design. The proposed model consider manufacturing factor such as machine capacity, production volume, process time, and cell size. Based on those information, workload is calculated and according to the workload, the relationship between machine and part is represented by the workload matrix. To form the manufacturing cell, correlation similarity coefficient (CSC) among machines are calculated and a pair of machines that has the highest value of CSC is assigned to a machine cell. Repeat the above steps until the desired manufacturing cells are obtained. Finally, a cell design support system that could increase the efficiency in the application of a proposed model is developed. The proposed model and CDSS are illustrated by a numerical example.

  • AC machines are in wide use in industry and d-q transformation from 3 phase of a, b, c is commonly used to analyze these kinds of machines. The equivalent circuits of d and q axis are, however, generally cross coupled and difficult to analyze. In this study, a modeling technique of AC machine including induction and PM synchronous motors using matrix vector is proposed. With that model, it can not only explain the AC machines physically but also make it simple to analyze them. The separating process of d and q components is not needed in this model and this model can be applied to analyze asymmetric motors like IPMSM machine. With this technique, the model becomes simple, easy to understand physically, and yields results that are the same as those from other models. These simulation results of the proposed model for induction motor are compared with those of other models to verify the method proposed.

  • This study is intended to propose a systematic and practical life cycle cost(LCC) model for the development of the reliability-based seismic safety and cost-effective performance criteria for design and upgrading of long-span PC bridges. The LCC models consist of five cost functions such as initial cost, repair/replacement cost, human losses, road user cost, and indirect losses of regional economy. The proposed model Is successfully expressed in temrs of Park-Ang damage indices and life cycle damage probability obtained from SMART-DRAIN-2DX which is an existing algorithm for nonlinear time history analysis. The proposed LCC model is successfully applied to a viaduct constructed by PSM, in Seoul. Based on the observations, the proposed systematic procedure for the formulation of LCC model may be useful for the development of the reliability-based seismic safety and cost-effective performance criteria for design and upgrading of long-span PC bridges.

  • For reaching large inelastic deformations without a substantial loss in strength, the potential plastic hinge regions of the reinforced concrete structural members should be confined by adequate transverse reinforcement. Therefore, simple and realistic representation of confined concrete behaviour is needed for inelastic analysis of reinforced concrete structures. In this study, a trilinear stress-strain model is proposed for the axial behaviour of confined concrete. The model is based on experimental work that was carried out on nearly full size specimens. During the interpretation of experimental data, the buckling and strain hardening of the longitudinal reinforcement are also taken into account. The proposed model is used for predicting the stress-strain relationships of confined concrete specimens tested by other researchers. Although the proposed model is simpler than most of the available models, the comparisons between the predicted results and experimental data indicate that it can represent the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete quite realistically.

  • This paper presents a novel optimum technique for optimum mix-proportion using database-based prediction model of material properties for an object function or a constraint condition. The proposed technique provides high reliability of results introducing effective region model, which assesses whether the prediction model is effective or not, in optimization process. In order to validate the proposed technique, a genetic algorithm was adopted as a optimum technique, and an artificial neural network was adopted as a prediction model for material properties and as a model for assessing effective region. The mix-proportion obtained from the proposed technique is more reasonable than that obtained from a general optimum technique.

  • This paper proposes rheological creep and shrinkage model of FCM bridges made for HPC about 40Mpa. The proposed model separates time dependent part with characteristic material part and regards main variable as elastic modulus, which represents material characteristic and history. To find parameters of the model, we had creep, shrinkage and basic material tests about four FCM bridges. All specimens were tested with same condition, after 3days, 28days and 90days of curing. Also, exposed condition and closed condition were separately given to compare the data of each bridge. Finally, all creep data of four FCM bridges were compared to proposed rheological model and other proposed world code models, AASHTO, ACI, CEB-FIP, JSCE and etc.

  • This paper addresses a damping control strategy of Static Synchronous Series Compensator(SSSC) and analysis model for stability study. The effect of injected voltage source generated by SSSC is modelled as equivalent load. This model is thought to be reasonable for the stability study because the dynamics of SSSC is very fast compared with that of power system. Damping controller of SSSC is based on Transient Energy Function method. The proposed control strategy is insensitive to the operating conditions like power flow level because control law depends on the phase angles. The proposed analysis model and control strategy was confirmed by WSCC 9 bus system and two area system. Especially, the robustness of proposed control strategy is demonstrated with respect to multiple operating conditions in two area system.

  • In this study, a model of pneumatic cylinder position control system considering dynamic characteristics of transmission line is proposed. The transfer characteristics of transmission line are assumed to be second order transfer function because the effect of resonance characteristics of transmission line under high frequency range can be neglected by the friction force and low pass characteristics of the pneumatic cylinder driving system. Therefore, the position control system including transmission line can be modeled by using a model of pneumatic cylinder driving system and the model of transmission line. The effectiveness of the proposed model is proved by comparison of simulation results using proposed model with experimental results.

  • In this paper, we propose a model-based method of estimating the velocity of a moving object from a series of images. The proposed method utilizes Kalman filtering technique. Assuming that the motion is described by an affine transformation, we construct a discrete-time state variable model of the motion based on the dynamic motion imagery modeling technique proposed by Schalkoff. Using this state variable model, we derive a Kalman filter algorithm. Some simulation results are presented to show that the proposed Kalman filter algorithm is superior to a simple least square method without a model.

  • These days many scientists make studies of feedback control system for stability on non-linear state and for the maneuver of flying objects. These feedback control systems have to satisfy trajectory condition and angular conditions, that is to say, controllability and stability simultaneously to achieve mission. In this paper, a design methods using model based control system which consists of spiral predictive model, Q-function included into generalized-work function is shown. It is made a clear that the proposed algorithm using SPM maneuvers for controllability and stability at the same time is successful in attaining our purpose. The feature of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by simulation results. As a conclusion, the proposed algorithm is useful for the control of moving objects.
