Mulching plastic is used for the purpose of maintaining soil temperature, moisture, and weed and pest prevention in agriculture. Any remaining plastic after use may contaminate the soil and damage crop growth. To solve this problem, mulching plastic wrappers have been studied and developed, but the actual use rate is quite low due to their poor performance and frequent tearing of the plastic on the field. In this study, we developed a tractor attachable mulching plastic wrapper to minimize the tearing of the mulched plastic. The developed mulching plastic wrapper consists of hydraulic motors and pumps, valves, a microcontroller, and sensors. The collecting speed of the plastic mulch was calculated considering the tractor's travel speed and the radius of the collecting drum. A proportional controller was designed to control the rotating speed of the hydraulic motor as the plastic was wound around the collection drum and the radius increased. The performance of an indoor experiment was quite promising because the difference between the collecting speed predicted by the calculation and the actual collecting speed was 2.71 rpm. Based on a field verification test, the speed difference was max. 14.28 rpm; thus, the, proportional integral derivative (PID) controller needs to be considered to control the drum speed precisely. Another issue was found when the soil covered at the edge of the plastic was hardened or the road surface was uneven, the speed control was unstable, and the plastic was torn. In future research, vibrational plows will be equipped to break-up the harden soil for collecting the plastic smoothly.

This paper proposes a design method of the PI(Proportional-Integral)+D(Derivative) controller using self-tuning of the design variables and controller gains. The used fuzzy PI+D controller is the approximated conventional continuos time linear PI+D controller and the used fuzzification method is the fuzzy single tone and the adapted defuzzification method is the simplified tenter of gravity. Fuzzy estimation result would be calculated in the other function elements from the classified fuzzy variables and the result determined by the design variables decides the controller gains. As a result, the proposed method shows the capability of the high speed tuning and can be applied to the case of input variables with many fuzzy partitions and also can bring out the advantage to reduce the reconstruction(digital sampling reconstruction) error. Most simulation results show that this controller makes much bettor efficiency and improvement by using design variables and controller gains.

This paper presents a robust nonlinear controller for a f degree of freedom (DOF) parallel manipulator in the task space coordinates. The proposed control strategy requires information on orientations and translations in the task space unlike the joint space or link space control scheme. Although a 6 DOF sensor may provide such information in a straightforward manner, its cost calls for a more economical alternative. A novel indirect method based on the readily available length information engages as a potential candidate to replace a 6 DOF sensor. The indirect approach generates the necessary information by solving the forward kinematics and subsequently applying alpha-beta-gamma tracker With the 6 DOF signals available, a robust nonlinear task space control (RNTC) scheme is proposed based on the Lyapunov redesign method, whose stability is rigorously proved. The performance of the proposed RNTC with the new estimation scheme is evaluated via experiments. First, the results of the estimator are compared with the rate-gyro signals, which indicates excellent agreement. Then, the RNTC with on-line estimated 6 DOF data is shown to achieve excellent control performance to sinusoidal inputs, which is superior to those of a commonly used proportional-plus-integral-plus-derivative controller with a feedforward friction compensation under joint space coordinates and the nonlinear controller under task space coordinates.
In order to successfully develop attitude and orbit control subsystem(AOCS), AOCS engineer performs hardware selection, controller design and analysis, control logic and interface verification on electrical test bed, integrated system test, polarity test, and finally verification on orbit after launching. Attitude and orbit control subsystem for KOMPSAT-2 consists of standby mode, sun mode, maneuver mode, science mode, and power safe mode to stabilize and to control the spacecraft for performing the mission. The sun mode is usually divided into sun point submode, earth search submode and safe hold submode. The maneuver mode is divided into attitude hold submode and ${\triangle}$ V submode, while the science mode divided into science coarse submode and science fine submode. Moreover, it is added to back-up mode which uses wheels as an actuator for sun mode and maneuver mode. In this paper, we describe the controller design process and the performance of the design results with respect to the sun mode and the maneuver mode based on thrusters as an actuator using on flexible model.

Optical scanning systems use glavanometers to point the laser beam to the desired position on the workpiece. The angular speed of a galvanometer is typically controlled using Proportional+Integral+Derivative(PID) control algorithms. However, natural variations in the dynamics of different galvanometers due to manufacturing, aging, and environmental factors(i.e., process uncertainty) impose a hard limit on the bandwidth of the galvanometer control system. In general, the control bandwidth translates directly into efficiency of the system response. Since the optical scanning system must have rapid response, the higher control bandwidth is required. Auto-tuning PID algorithms have been accepted in this area since they could overcome some of the problems related to process uncertainty. However, when the galvanometer is attached to a larger mechanical system, the combined dynamics often exhibit resonances. It is well understood that PId algorithms may not have the capacity to increase the control bandwidth in the face of such resonances. This paper compares the achieable performance and robustness of a galvanometer control system using a PID controller tuned by the Ziegler-Nichols method and a controller designed by the Quantitative Feedback Theory(QFT) method. The results clearly indicate that-in contrast to PID designs-QFT can deliver a single, fixed controller which will supply high bandwidth design even when the dynamics is uncertain and includes mechanical resonances.

An optical head actuator of an optical disk drive consists of two servo mechanisms for the focusing and the tracking to acquire data from disk. As the rotational speed of the disk grows, the utilized lag-lead-lead compensator has known to be above its ability for precisely controlling the optical head actuator. To overcome the difficulty, this paper propose a new controller design method for optical head actuator based fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control and the genetic algorithm(GA). It employs a two-stage control structure with a fuzzy PI and a fuzzy PD control and is optimized by the GA to yield the suboptimal fuzzy PID control performance. It is shown the feasibility of the proposed method through a numerical tracking actuator simulation.

In this paper, we designed a current controlling servo system for speed control of a PMSM. In existing auto-tuning methods for PI controller parameters, the output response is delayed and the overshoot is generated. By solving these existing problems in this paper, a new PI auto-tuning method is applied to the speed controller for fast-response and reduced overshoot. PMSM servo systems offer a great advantage in unmanned factories where a great number of servo motors are employed, because of its easy maintenance characteristics and controllability. The implemented servo system is composed of absolute position detecting circuits of a rotor, a new auto-tuning PI control algorithm, a speed controller by using DSP, and power driving section. The proposed servo system is verified for it's practical availability by considering experimental results.
An electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) is widely used in industrial motion systems and the increasing bandwidth of EHA position control is important issue. The model-inverse feedforward controller is known to extend the bandwidth of system. When the system has non-minimum phase (NMP) zeros, direct model inversion makes system unstable. To overcome this problem, an approximate model-inverse method is used. A representative approximate model inversion method is zero phase error tracking control (ZPETC). However, if zeros locate right half plane of z-plane, the approximate inverse model amplifies the high-frequency response. In this paper, to solve the problem of ZPETC, an adaptive model-inverse control is proposed. The adaptive algorithm updates feedforward term in real-time. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive model-inverse position control strategy is verified by comparison with typical proportional-integral (PI) control and feedforward control by experiments. As a result, the proposed adaptive controller extends the bandwidth of EHA position control.

Active disturbance rejection control is a method in which the disturbance is removed from the controller by estimating the state variable using the Luenberger observer. The Luenberger observer is estimated by defining a nonlinear term including disturbance with constant characteristics in a steady state as a state variable. It can be shown that the speed tracking performance is improved by compensating the estimated state variable to the PI controller and the IP controller. The disturbance removal performance of the tracking control can be confirmed by observing that the estimated state error is within 1.9 [%] in the case of load fluctuation and the steady-state state tracking error converges to zero.

In this paper, we proposes the use of Model Predictive Control (MPC) techniques to enable quadcopter drones to effectively follow paths and maintain flight safety even under dynamic external environments and disturbances. Through simulations conducted in MATLAB/Simulink, the performance of two controllers, PID and MPC, is compared in flight scenarios with disturbances. The proposed design method shows that the MPC controller, when compared to the PID controller, exhibits a difference in the Mean Squared Error between the intended flight path and the actual path of the quadcopter drone. This difference is 0.2 in performance under no disturbance, and it increases to 0.8 under disturbance, demonstrating the improved path following accuracy of the MPC controller.
