  • The KLCC Petronas Tower 2, one of the world tallest twin reinforced concrete towers constructed in Kuala Lumpur, Malysia, was instrumented during construction for the measurement of vertical time-dependent deformation of columns and corewall. Field measurements were made by means of vibrating wire strain gauges at the corewall, tower and bustle perimeter columns at selected floor levels of the building. Parallel to this observation, laboratory tests were performed on concrete cylinders made in the field in order to obtain the variations of concrete compressive strengths, elastic moduli, strains of creep and shrinkage with time. Monitored vertical deformations are in a good agreement with the prediction based on actual construction sequence and concrete properties from laboratory tests, as well as the analytical results reflected in actual column compensation of the building.

  • The EWMA(Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) has recently received a great deal of attention in the quality control literature as a process monitoring tool on the shop floor of manufacturing industires, since it is easy to plot, to interpret, and its control limits are easy to obtain. Most a, pp.ications of the EWMA for process monitoring have concentrated on the problem of detecting shifts of a process mean and a process standard deviation with ARL(Average Run Length) properties. But there may be the necessity of controlling linearity on product quality such as the correlation coefficient to the process operator. Control managers may want to protect the increase of a process correlation coefficient value, such as 0, between two variables of interest. However, there are few studies concerned on this part. Therefore, we propose EWMA models for a process correlation coefficient using two transformed statistics, T-statistic and (Fisher's) Z-statistic. We also present some results of simulation by SAS/IML and compare two models.

  • Floors in a structure are often subject to periodic forces which induce excessive oscillations. For control of such oscillations, TMDs(Tuned Mass Dampers) have been widely used and prooved effective. But it is very difficult to estimate the natural frequency of a TMD when it is installed to a structure. Therefore to achieve the TMD properties that are required for satisfactory performances of the structure, it is necessary to tune the TMDs to the optimal state. This paper is intended to suggest the efficient tuning method for simple and economically designed TMDs and to investigate the validity of the method by installing TMDs to a real structure.

  • In a High Altitude Platform (HAP) cellular communications network, each cell may be served by a dedicated spot-beam antenna. The antennas' beam properties and their spatial overlap control the co-channel interference. In prior literature, radiation patterns have been approximated by a main lobe followed by a constant sidelobe floor. A network of 121 cells has been studied and the method is here extended to the use of more realistic radiation patterns based on the theoretical aperture antenna patterns. This allows for the comparison of the effect of different aperture field tapers, which lead to reduced sidelobe levels and hence higher system capacity but also a more massive antenna payload.

  • The safety of cultural properties, medical treatment and electrical communication equipments in a building was hardly considered against the earthquake induced vibration, while the integrity of the building structure has been taken into account through the resistant earthquake design. This paper presents design of a seismic isolation table for both indoor and outdoor electrical communication equipment. First of all, artificial earthquake waves compatible with floor and ground response spectra for electrical communication equipments are generated using previously recorded seismic waves. Two kinds of one-degree-of-freedom seismic isolation table systems: spring-linear damper and spring-friction damper systems are considered and their responses to artificial earthquake waves are simulated. Design parameter study for two seismic isolation tables are performed through simulations and a seismic isolation table for both indoor and outdoor electrical communication equipment is designed considering the simulation results.

  • In this study, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to analyze the smoke movement and the carbon monoxide concentration distribution, both vertically and longitudinally, in a compartment, based on conservation laws. The Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was used for numerical simulations using Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) model to solve for time-averaged properties. Results show, as a function of time, a detailed distribution of temperature and carbon monoxide concentration changing against the height above the floor and those changes alongside the distance away from the fire source. Fire-induced smoke and toxic gases like CO are more dangerous in a confined space. The result of study may contribute in designing the smoke evacuation system based on the precise tenable condition.

  • Recently, the trend for structure is being changed from wall construction to rhamen construction. rhgamen construction reduces floor noise and selfweight in structures. The amount of lightweight panels used in rhamen construction is also increasing. Also, Worldwide refinery industry is a large amount of sulfur is produced by develrop ment. Sulfur is resistant to freezing and thawing. Terefore, this study focuses on the density and absorption of magnesium oxide matrix that contains wood powder and pearlite to replace lightweight panel for rhamen construction. Adding pearlite 15% has the lowest density but, it has the highest absorption.

  • Nano-measurement systems such as scanning probe microscopes should be protected against external disturbances. For the design of a scanning probe microscope, the external vibrations need to be characterized and the vibrational properties of the structural frame itself should be modeled. Also, the influences of the external vibration on the apparatus need to be known for its utmost precision. In this paper, the combined vibrational-characteristics of the floor and the structural frame are analyzed and experimentally investigated.

  • The acoustic power reduction method can be used to design a quiet structure. To calculate the acoustic power radiated from a vibrating structure, the dynamic responses have to be determined. It is not easy to analyse the structure composed of the corrugated panels because of the structural complexity and the long analysing time. To make up for these defects, the equivalent orthotropic panel is presented. Also the acoustic power prediction method of the vibrating structures is proposed. As examples, the equivalent material properties of the corrugated plates are obtained and the acoustic powers of the floor structure are calculated at several frequency regions for the Korean High Speed Train.

  • In this study, research is in order to prevent the defects that occur when the polished tiles construction. For material to be used when the polishing tile construction, trying to evaluate the shrinkage characteristics when the environmental conditions change. Depending on the material used for the shrinkage characteristics evaluation results, the difference between the change values of the length of the drying shrinkage becomes large. Therefore, there is a need for the construction method with consideration of the characteristics of the materials used.
