  • In this paper, the effect of substrate temperature on structural, electrical and optical properties of aluminium-doped zinc oxide (AZO) films were investigated. AZO thin films were prepared on glass substrate by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering technique. The properties of AZO were measured by using XRD, AFM, UV spectrophotometer, and hall effect measurement system. The resistivity of AZO films was improved under the condition of high substrate temperature. The resistivity decreased from $9.95{\times}10^{-2}\;{\Omega}-cm\;to\;1.1{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}-cm$ as a result of high substrate temperature and the average transmittances in visible range were above 80%.

  • This research measured the dielectric properties of silicone rubber with various hardness in 100 Hz~3 MHz, $30{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ conditions. When the hardness increases from 65 degree to 75 degree, the dielectric loss increased within frequency range of 100 kHz~3 MHz and was a little change in dielectric loss within temperature range of $90^{\circ}C{\sim}170^{\circ}C$. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) showed the weight change rate increased a little while heated until $800^{\circ}C$. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) measurement showed that Aluminium Trihydroxide($AlOH_3$) which acts as a reinforcement agent reduced the size of the particles as the hardness increased.

  • Friction stir welding results in low distortion and high joint strength compared with other welding procedures, and is able to join all aluminium alloys that are not considered as virtually weldable with classical liquid state techniques. The comparative study on high cycle fatigue properties between A16005-T6 friction stir welds and MIG weld joints have been performed and fracture mechanisms for the fatigue specimens were investigated. Although mechanical properties are lower than the corresponding base material, FSW joints of A16005-T6 become higher at tensile and fatigue strength in comparison with the traditional fusion weld(MIG). The fracture surfaces of FSW and MIG fatigue specimens cleary show different aspects of the fracture morphology. MIG weldments were characterized by voids and cleavage(brittle fracture) but FSW specimens showed the presence of ductile fracture surface.

  • Aluminium alloy castings, which can be not only manufactured in larger geometrically complex shapes, but also show good mechanical properties in addition to light weight, have kept their potential use as structures in the field of automotives, industrial machines and aircrafts. The variations of eutectic Si size a great effect on the elongation, impact value, fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation rate without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The cooling curves with the solidification rate between $1.4^{\circ}C\;/min$ and $19.1^{\circ}C\;/min$ were obtained. With the increase of solidification rate, DAS, eutectic Si size and grain size were all decreased, which enhanced the mechanical properties. The tensile strength and yield strength were the most greatly influenced by DAS, and the elongation and impact value by eutectic Si size.

  • In this paper, the electric properties of amorphous selenium specimen has been investigated. Amorphous selenium was thermally evaporated on the glass plate which had been deposited onto the interface by aluminium as an electrode. On the surface of the amorphous selenium, the aluminium electrode was deposited again in order to make an unit cell for dark current measurement. The dark current was measured while applying the bias voltage across the selenium layer in the range of 0V-2500 Volts. The leakage property of the amorphous selenium was significantly low at even high voltage range so it has good advantage as a X-ray receptor for digital radiography. For further study, the C-V curves measurement according to thicker amorphous selenium layer.

  • This paper presents the flutter analysis and optimum design of axially functionally graded box beam cantilever wing section by considering various geometric and material parameters. The coupled dynamic equations of the continuous model of wing system in terms of material and cross-sectional properties are formulated based on extended Hamilton's principle. By expressing the lift and pitching moment in terms of plunge and pitch displacements, the resultant two continuous equations are simplified using Galerkin's reduced order model. The flutter velocity is predicted from the solution of resultant damped eigenvalue problem. Parametric studies are conducted to know the effects of geometric factors such as taper ratio, thickness, sweep angle as well as material volume fractions and functional grading index on the flutter velocity. A generalized surrogate model is constructed by training the radial basis function network with the parametric data. The optimized material and geometric parameters of the section are predicted by solving the constrained optimal problem using firefly metaheuristics algorithm that employs the developed surrogate model for the function evaluations. The trapezoidal hollow box beam section design with axial functional grading concept is illustrated with combination of aluminium alloy and aluminium with silicon carbide particulates. A good improvement in flutter velocity is noticed by the optimization.

  • Since its invention at TWI in 1991, Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has become a major joining process in the aerospace, railway and ship building industries especially in the fabrication of aluminium alloys. In an attempt to optimize the friction stir welding process of Al alloys for extrusion Aluminium carbody of HEMU-400X (Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series), effects of joining parameters such as tool rotating speed, plunging depth and dwelling time on the weld joints properties were evaluated. Experimental tests were carried out for butt joined Al plates. A wide range of joining conditions could be applied to join Al alloys for Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series without defects in the weld zone except for certain welding conditions with an insufficient heat input. The microstructures of welds have dynamic-recrystallized grain similar to stir zone in FSW weld. For sound joints without defects, at the rotation speed of 700 rpm with different welding speeds, the tensile strengths of the Stir Zone(SZ) were almost the same, 80% of those of the base metal. • Surface fatigue crack propagation tests by plane bending fatigue were conducted on the welding specimens of an aluminium alloy, A5083-0, having an edge through thickness notch to study the fatigue crack growth characteristics. Moreover, the experiments were performed in order to clarify the fatigue crack initiation and growth. The properties of fatigue crack growth were quantitatively inspected in welded metal, heat-affected zone and base metal of the welding specimens. The main results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. It is found that the hardness distributions of A5083-0 aluminium alloy weldments are quite different with those of steel material weldments, so that the hardness distribution becomes lower in the following order: base metal, heat-affected zone and weld metal. 2. It is observed that the grain size of this specimen weldment appears to be almost equal to the base metal, when TIC welding method is adopted. 3. In a surface fatigue crack initiation and growth, the fatigue crack does not begin by opening-closing mechanism until hardening is saturated at the crack tip. 4. The fatigue crack growth characteristics of A5083-0 alluminium alloy weldments can be concluded.$${\frac{da}{dn}}=C({\Delta}K)^n=3.8{\times}10^{-9}{({\frac}{1}{2}{\Delta}S_t{\sqrt{{\pi}a}})}^{2.4}$$
