Although information communication technology (ICT) is long regard as very useful tool in today's construction engineering and project management environment, organizations must not only operate based upon its original setting, but also requires on-going observation, additional features and fine-tuning actions before the desirable outcome can be achieved. However, it is a very common phenomenon that organizations purchase the licensed "off-the-shelf-software" package and customize it to suit their own business need. Due to the incapability of such software and inefficient customization, the possible result is making that ICT tool not user-friendly and sometimes the whole system becomes obsolete. The purpose of this paper is to review and report those actions taken (between February 2006 and December 2010) by a construction organization to enhance the performance of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system launched in December 2002. Such actions include: improving data inputting method; removing the transition bottleneck; introducing crystallization function; revising the organization's "Delegation and Limits of Authority"; publishing the "League Table" amongst users; integrating the 3D Mode into the system and upgrading hardware. Whilst the ultimate goals of such system are well beyond the time limit of this research study, an obvious interim result, achieved by this case studied organization, was winning a landmark project worth US$500 million after the ERP system was functioned properly and effectively. Their experience and success becomes an exemplar which can be borrowed by those companies, from managerial perspectives and as a roadmap, planning to adopt information technology (IT) strategy and use ICT tool in the construction engineering and project management framework. Singapore, where public housing provisions have been a major concern of their citizens as the building stock gets older.

Construction documents are recognized as an essential component for making a decision and supporting on construction processes. In construction, the management of project document is a complex process due to different factors such as document types, stakeholder involvement, document flow, and document flow processes. Therefore, inappropriate management of project documents can cause several impacts on construction work processes such as delay or poor quality of work. Several information and communication technologies (ICT) were proposed to overcome problems concerning document management practice in construction projects. However, the adoption of ICT may have some limitation on the compatibility of specific document workflow. Lack of understanding on designing document system may cause many problems during the use and implementation phase. Thus, this paper proposes the framework that integrates Soft System Methodology (SSM) concept and Integrated Definition Modeling Technique (IDEF) for analyzing document management system in construction project. Research methodology is classified as the case study. Five main construction building projects are selected as case studies. The qualitative data related to problems and processes are collected by interviewing construction project participants such as main contractors, owners, consultants, and designers. The findings from case study show the benefits of using SSM and IDEF. The use of SSM can help identify the problems in managing construction document in rich picture view whereas IDEF can illustrate the document flow in construction project in details. In addition, the idea of integrating these two concepts can be used to identify the root causes of process problems at the information level. As the results, this idea can be applied to analyze and design web-based document management system in the future.

The construction project is largely exposed to much more risk events over the project life cycle due to its complexity and size than the other industries. Therefore, the construction risk management process to identify and response the risk events is not only performing acutely but also proceeding systematically. The risk identification phase in the risk management process is to identify various risk events and define its characteristics. At this phase, the risk identification system is very useful tool to identify every possible risk events in the project. This study shows some problems of the existing risk identification system and proposes the modified risk identification system based on the project phases and the contract bodies, and also suggests partial but more enough detailed risk checklists to be implemented in the actual risk identification phase than any other existing risk breakdown systems to be examined at this study.
The purpose of this study was to establish the initial computerized management database which can be applied to a universal project management computer system for managing universal project management and operation. Database construction model presented in this paper suggested the model of organization, activity and operation of bridge construction(two abutment-three-span) based on the organization information classification system of the facility classification, functional component classification, work classification, resource classification. Database model established in this study are considered to be able to take advantage of a very systematic and scientific management for future universal project management and operations.

In modern systems, the operational capability of the system to the user needs is expanding rapidly to accommodate the size of the system, functionality, and interfaces are becoming increasingly complex. Accordingly, the systematic practice of project management and systems engineering in the system development process, as an important element in successful systems development is recognized. EIA/ANSI 632, ISO/IEC15288, the leading international standard for systems engineering and is the leading international standard on project management PMBOK. CMMI is also contains information about the activities of project management and systems engineering and worldwide basis to assess the maturity of an organization's ability to develop system being used. But CMMI model is too complex of structure and there are many overlap parts of contents. So there are many problems for members of organization understanding all of CMMI model, applying organization and, achieving improvement activity. In this study, through the analysis and integration between the model and the related standard coverage activities essential for successful systems development in organizations that require systems engineering and project management capabilities(SEPMC) for self-assessment and continuous improvement activities to provide useful reference guideline.
The importance of renewable energy has increased continuously due to the energy insecurity and the necessity of reducing carbon dioxide which is causing global climate change. In such a situation, the Pohang Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) power plant project which is launched in December 2010 shall be a new opportunity for the development of EGS related technologies in Korea. In this paper, the case studies of Fenton Hill project in the USA and Hijiori project in Japan are introduced in order to help a part of the domestic EGS demonstration project. As a result, it could be helpful to minimize the trial and error of the domestic EGS project by acquiring the achievements and limitations of existing EGS projects.
The purpose of this study is to find what factors are directly related to the delay of public projects, usually going beyond the planned deadline and budget. From a series of System Dynamics simulation works applied to the Cheongju Cremation Project, the research finds that the negative externalities originated from the adjacent location of the LULU(locally unwanted land use) facilities have exerted significant influence on dynamic perceptions of key stakeholders, typically resulting in project delay. As shown repeated experiments, the proposed negotiation-based models would produce relatively higher planning performance level than the typical approaches hinged on the administrative-expediency tactics. Even though the former may require more human and material resources in the very beginning stage, as they have to deal with diverse grievances raised by major stake-holders, most of them would bound for strengthening reinforcing loops within the complex structure. These results also imply that negotiation or consensus-building approaches would enhance mutual agreement among stake-holders, upgrading the overall quality of project management.

In this paper, we design and implement the iMPS(Integrated Project Management system). The iMPS is used in the performance evaluation which establishes the systematic management of support for Industry-Academy-Research Cooperation. The implemented iPMS mainly contain functions. First, the search function produces a report for result on the status of numerous projects and allows administrators to track project status in a excel file format. Second, the management function produces a performance evaluation, monitoring. Applying the iPMS to management of Busan-Ulsan Association of industry-academy cooperation, its usefulness is from the results of web service.
When researchers plan R&D projects, they usually use patent map or paper map for the objective decision-making, but in traditional korean medicine field, domestic patents and papers have been mainly proposed as results of many R&D projects, while most of patent or paper map tools support international patents and SCI papers, respectively. Therefore, as an alternative one KIOM constructed the project map which can provide the technology landscape for R&D project information in traditional korean medicine field. But the functions of the system is limited to the search and analysis with chart. So sophisticated analysis results are hard to get from the existing system. This research's goal is to upgrade the web based project map analysis system to provide researcher rich functionality and advanced analysis tools.
The Sihwaho Project got off to a bad start, which led to a series of mishaps and an imbalance of the whole project. The purpose of this study is to select the case of Sihwaho as a research subject, clean up the contamination caused by the ill planned project, develop suitable measures to stabilize the lake environment, and find the implications of similar development projects. For this, the authorshave conducted three simulations after studying the structural reasons for the failure of the Sihwaho Policy by identifying cause and effect relationships, pre-testing a number of policy measures for the current lake project, and presenting measures for solving the contamination problem at the lake. The simulations have shown us that filling the lake with seawater is inadequate to solve the problem and that we also have to make efforts to reduce the volume of wastes to the lake as well. The authorshave also analyzed the degree of difference between the simulation and survey results for scenario 1, in which we have studied how much seawater can reduce the contamination of the Sihwaho Lake without the effort to reduce the volume of wastes into the lake. The survey showed that most citizens and employees of the Ministry of Environment did not think it would be serious as the simulation results pointed out, and the employees of the Ministry of Environment were more optimistic about the situation than the public.
