  • The importance of project performance management as an alternative for solving problems is rising, which are followed by the hardships of managing construction project in the construction industry. This research classifies and applies the improvements made by the operator's work, in order to apply factors of success on the construction project, as performance management factors. In addition, in order to predict the results reflecting the project characteristic of performance management factor un-improvable by the operator in the initial stage of construction, the effect of project characteristic to the performance was drawn by performance difficulty. Also, in order to improve the predicted performance, researches on setting valid best practices according to the performance territory through a correlation analysis between the best practices improvable through the operator's work, and the performance was made.

  • It is reported that the success ratio of software development projects has been only 30%. Many causes lower project's chance of success, particularly lack of systematic project management. Especially, moving on the next phase of project with unsatisfactory outputs can be very problematic because it can cause much waste of resource, time and even lead to the failure of the whole project. Peer review and inspection are some of the practices designed to prevent such waste and possible failure. When defects are identified through such progress, each developer has to work on the product component again and fix the problem. This process is called rework. In this paper, we propose a method for improving quality of reworked product component to prevent excessive cost and time consumed caused by moving on the next phase of a project with a problematic product component. More specifically, this paper suggests a rework indicator that measures the level of rework based on its complexity and severity and is used to choose appropriate checking method on reworked product component. The research also confirmed the method's usefulness and effectiveness by applying the suggested method on four projects.

  • This paper presents a method for solving project planning problem which the opinions of experts greatly disagree in each activity processing time. Triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs) are used to represent activity times of experts. And we introduce a pessimistic project planning with major TFNs and an optimistic project planning with minor. TFNs, and illustrate the approach using a combination of the existing composite and the comparison methods, which is used to solve the complex project planning problem.

  • This study provides the method how to improve the productivity of a project using CM's constitutive methods. Construction industry in Korea was protected by the government and they have been grown with only their construction technology until today. It results Korean Construction is behind the advanced countries in terms of Engineering fields and construction management skills. This study compares the difference between the construction system of Korea and Europe and Asia. And then, it proposes the method how to compete with the other countries. which introduce the CM technique into the construction project in the beginning stage. Hopefully, this study is recognised as the basic strategy to improve the capability of Korean construction management.

  • After determining the type and string condition of conductor of 765kV transmission lines, we studied the mechanical strength system of insulator strings to support conductors and insulate conductors from towers. In this paper, for the insulator strings which will be used in 765kV transmission lines, we're going to optimally determine the mechanical strength system and supporting method in the consideration of the reliability, economics and the survey data of T/L routes, and also suggest the calculation method to stipulate for the application limits of suspension and strain insulator strings according to the loadspan and height difference of tower.

  • Determining on a particular construction method is typically decided in the initial phases of a project. However, changing conditions during actual construction may require a different method or technology to be employed. Providing an option for project managers to change construction provides flexibility that can increase value to the overall project. This research provides the ability to modify construction methods as a real option, which allows its value to be modeled. The research also formalizes a way to integrate a binomial lattice model with the Earned Value Method's S-curve. The integrated model provides a decision support tool that planners can use to determine whether to exercise the option depending on the status metrics provided by EVM.

  • The MapReduce Program of Hadoop Distributed File System operates on any unspecified nodes due to distributed-parallel process and block replicate for data stability. Since it is difficult to guarantee the cache locality when a Solid State Drive is used as a cache in hadoop, cache hit-rate is decreased. In this paper, we suggest a method to improve cache hit rate by pre-loading the input data of the MapReduce onto the SSD cache. To perform this method, we estimated the blocks that are used on each node by using capacity scheduler and block metadata. Eventually we could increase the performance of SSD cache by loading the blocks onto SSD cache before the Map Task run.

  • The prediction of quality characteristics during the design phase of a construction project was fragmented, because no particular method exists. One of the most important key responses is the total displacements (horizontal and vertical). A brainstorming session produces the quality parameters i.e. the control factors which here are identified as: the steel joint, the pile's length, the excavation depth and angle, the distance between the piles, the anchor stretch and length to name just some of the most engaging in the design. The purpose of this study is to optimise these parameters to minimize the total displacements following a methodology based on Taguchi method. For this reason, a 2-level, L8 orthogonal array has been employed to organize the experimentation. Data is obtained from a real-life excavation project designed on the Plaxis v.8 CAE package. Taguchi analysis is performed in the statistical package Minitab.

  • In this paper, the authors explained the overview of a method for detecting location of worker for development of a monitoring system for project progress management using RFID technology. Data is the RSSI (Receive Signal Strength Indication) from RFID tag attached to the worker installing a rolling shutter, and was obtained from antennas and RFID readers set around the construction site. Neural network was done using RSSI collected and the area where worker is performing a task, and an estimation model of the working area was prepared. The network had a range of the percentage of correctly classified from 62% to 92%. The authors suggested the method to make estimate by using integrated networks prepared in respect of RFID readers, and showed the percentage of correctly classified of 84.3%. According to the result, the authors confirmed the possibility of the monitoring system with RFID technology, and mentioned the factors necessary to develop for further practical use.

  • The urban renewal type redevelopment project is a project to improve the urban environment for the recovery of urban functions and revitalization of commercial districts in commercial and industrial areas. Urban regeneration projects are not progressing smoothly. The urban renewal type is not so for landowners, who require a high level of professional knowledge and experience to carry out smooth projects. In addition, the core part of business conflicts can be seen as the problem of management and disposal methods. Therefore, as landowners, etc. become the actual subjects, the public will take charge of project execution, but all development gains and losses will be attributed to the owner of the land, etc.
