Designing Programming Curriculum for Developing Programming Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Pre-service Informatics Teachers (예비교사의 프로그래밍 교수내용지식 향상을 위한 프로그래밍 교육프로그램 설계)

  • This study is for developing a programming education course to improve pre-service teachers' pedagogical content knowledge(PCK) of programming education. A 40-hour training course was designed with App Inventor, a block-based mobile programming environment, and with problem-based learning method and project-based learning method. After the curriculum was adopted to 12 undergraduate students, the effect of education was tested with a programming PCK questionnaire. As a result, after a 20-hour problem-based learning class, overall score and teaching method score were enhanced significantly. After another 20-hour project-based learning class, content knowledge, teaching method, and curriculum score were improved.

  • Most of the robot programming curriculums consists mainly of understanding robot programming language and learning a simple grammatical sentences rather than logical problem solving process, these curriculums impose a burden on childrens' learning. Storytelling offers opportunities for continuation of childrens' positive learning motivation to practice symbolic manipulations, hold multiple abstract concepts in their heads, and create meaning between these ideas. In this paper, to overcome the difficulty of robot programming curriculum in elementary school and find teaching method which derives the childrens' motivation, we used storytelling in study of our robot programming curriculum.

Effects of PSA programming learning on Problem solving ability and Logical thinking ability : In the case of High School Students (PSA 중심 프로그래밍 학습이 문제해결력과 논리적 사고력에 미치는 효과 : 고등학생을 대상으로)

  • In recent domestic and international curriculum it is emphasized that students should acquire 'problem solving' competence as a member of knowledge information society and various programming educational methods of improving problem solving competence have been studied. But there is no difference between programming problems in related research and traditional programming courses. Most methods of solving problems are focused on acquiring specific languages rather than enhancing problem solving ability. In this research, we developed a suitable programming problems and curriculum for fostering problem solving competence and designed and developed teaching and learning contents based on PSA(Problem Solving Activities). Furthermore, we obtained meaningful results of improving learners' problem solving ability and logical thinking ability by operating curriculum with developed contents as learning materials. The results of this research are expected to be used as a reference model or basic teaching materials for developing and operating the programming teaching and learning contents or curriculum to enhance problem solving competence.

Python Basic Programming Curriculum for Non-majors and Development Analysis of Evaluation Problems (비전공자를 위한 파이썬 기초 프로그래밍 커리큘럼과 평가문제 개발분석)

  • Most of the courses that teach the Python programming language are liberal arts courses that all students in general universities must complete. Through this, non-major students who have learned the basic programming process based on computational thinking are strengthening their convergence capabilities to apply SW in various major fields. In the previous research results, various evaluation methods for understanding the concept of computational thinking and writing code were suggested. However, there are no examples of evaluation problems, so it is difficult to apply them in actual course operation. Accordingly, in this paper, a Python basic programming curriculum that can be applied as a liberal arts subject for non-majors is proposed according to the ADDIE model. In addition, the case of evaluation problems for each Python element according to the proposed detailed curriculum was divided into 1st and 2nd phases and suggested. Finally, the validity of the proposed evaluation problem was analyzed based on the evaluation scores of non-major students calculated in the course to which this evaluation problem case was applied. It was confirmed that the proposed evaluation problem case was applied as a real-time online non-face-to-face evaluation method to effectively evaluate the programming competency of non-major students.

  • In the future society where ICT-based digital convergence creates new value, collaborative skills among experts in various fields and SW based problem solving ability is more emphasized. Non-SW specialists are required to have SW based communication skills to effectively collaborate with SW experts to solve their problems. Therefore, SW programming curriculum for non-major college students should be different from the existing programming education for SW-majors aiming at a high level of coding ability. It is also known that diagram-based visual representation is helpful for productive communication and collaboration. In this study, we defined the SW education objectives for the non-majors as cultivating the visual programming ability for SW based problem solving. In order to accomplish this, we explored SW programming curriculum and content development model for non-majors focusing on visual representation of SW solutions. The results of this paper will help to provide appropriate SW learning model for non-majors and to cultivate practical SW capabilities.

Development of Robot Programming Education System for Children based on Storytelling (초등학생을 위한 스토리텔링 기반 로봇 프로그래밍 교육 시스템)

  • By using robot programming curriculums, we are able to help the learners to improve academic achievement. But these curriculums reduce the level of participation, because most of the robot programming curriculums consists mainly of understanding simple grammatical sentences. Storytelling provides a variety of educational methods to improve logical thinking of children on their experiences and offers positive learning motivations to the learners. In this paper, we proposed the robot programming curriculum using storytelling and implemented the system to support it. By using this curriculum and visualization tools in this system, children can make a robot story and model easily with others. In addition, this robot programming curriculum and system can provide learning motivation and academic achievement to the children continuously.

  • Many people are showing interest on computing and computer programming ever as much as the smartphone become more popular. Computer programming languages, however, like Java or C++ being used to teach freshmen in computer science-related majors as the first programming language they will study are so difficult to understand. In this paper, we proposed a short-term curriculum for teaching computer programming using App Inventor for Android to freshmen students major in computer science as the first programming language they will study, which can encourage their interest in computer programming. According to survey from students participated in actual teaching, we found that the proposed curriculum can contribute to increase their interest on computer programming and even self-confidence on development of applications for smarphone.

  • In Computational thinking is emphasized as a basic learning ability to grow into a key talent in the digital society. There is much interest and discussion on computing education nationally, and the Korean government has also included education in the curriculum. As a result of these changes, the level of computer literacy that preliminary teachers need to be imporved, and the role of computational thinking as a leader in digital society is being emphasized by teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to have a curriculum that can understand computational thinking through various programming learning from preliminary teacher education curriculum. In this study, we designed and taught programming curriculum for non-majored preliminary teachers. Through the developed questionnarie, we analyzed the affect of programming education on the preliminary teacher's development of computational thinking ability.

The Effect of Modular Robot Programming Education on Learning Motivation of Informatics Curriculum (모듈형 로봇 프로그래밍 교육이 정보교과 학습동기에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the impact of modular robot programming education on middle school informatics curriculum learning motivation. For this purpose, the experiment was conducted with a experimental group of 25 people and a control group of 25 people, and modular robot programming education and learning motivation test were used as research tools. As a result of processing the results of the learning motivation test paper with the independent sample t-test and the paired t-test, the experimental group had 9.36 points higher learning motivation than the control group and 15.44 points higher than the pre-test. In particular, it significantly affected the improvement of all the sub-components of the learning motivation, and among them, it greatly affected the enhancement of attention, relevance and satisfaction. In conclusion, it can be seen that modular robot programming education has a positive effect on improving students' motivation to learn the informatics curriculum.

Development of Algorithm and Programming Framework for Information Education Curriculum Standard Model (정보과 교육과정 표준모델을 위한 알고리즘 및 프로그래밍 영역 프레임워크 개발)

  • We developed a framework of consisting of concept understanding and learning activities in the area of algorithm and programming for constructing SW curriculum that can be used in school field. Based on this, it is composed of five levels of achievement standards by area. The algorithm area consists of 18 achievement standards elements, and the programming area consists of 21 elements. To examine the importance of content about achievement standards and the appropriateness of the education time of each area, its validity was suggested through expert verification by delphi survey. The present study could be utilized as the research data of the standard model of information education curriculum and provides important implications for the development of SW curriculum in the school field.
