  • The purpose of our study is to develop tool kits which give us inexpensive simulation method. We develop a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) program module with which we can edit and monitor PLC program, a virtual PLC (VPLC) system and simulation equipment. The PLC and simulation equipment are interlinked each other and controlled by the PLC program in real time. So, e can get effect as actural operation. Using our new tool kits we don't have to prepare PLC and machine, because we can configure PLC system and see the response of virtual machine n monitor. For validity of the developed program, we make experiments for the PLC program of elevator and automatic materials weighting system. The experimental results show that the virtual machine (VM) operates properly by the PLC control program.

Development of Simulation Program of Automotive Engine Cooling System (자동차 엔진냉각계의 해석 프로그램의 개발)

  • A numerical program has been developed for the simulation of automotive engine cooling system. The program determines the mass flow rate of engine coolant circulating the engine cooling system and radiator cooling air when the engine speed is adopted by appropriate empirical correlation. The program used the method of thermal balance at individual element through the model for radiator component in radiator analysis. This study has developed the program that predicts the coolant mass flow rate, inlet and outlet temperatures of each component in the engine cooling system (engine, transmission, radiator and oil cooler) in its state of thermal equilibrium. This study also combined the individual programs and united into the total performance analysis program of the engine cooling system operating at a constant vehicle speed. An air conditioner system is also included in this engine cooling system so that the condenser of the air conditioner faces the radiator. The effect of air conditioner to the cooling performance, e.g., radiator inlet temperature, of the radiator and engine system was examined. This study could make standards of design of radiator capacity using heat rejection with respect to the mass flow rate of cooling air. This study is intended to predict the performance of each component at design step or to simulate the system when specification of the component is modified, and to analyze the performance of the total vehicle engine cooling system.

  • RAM(Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) is one of the important indicators to show the performance of weapon systems. For analyzing RAM characteristics, RAM simulation is useful and powerful as mathematical techniques. However, it is necessary to build the simulation model to express about the operation environment of weapon systems, and obtain detail input data for reliability and maintainability about the system to get accurate results by RAM simulation. In this paper, we propose a procedure to analyze RAM of the searching system consisting in weapon systems by RAM simulation and we estimate searching system availability by a commercial simulation program, AvSim.

Effect of simulation-based practice program on ACLS study of paramedic students (시뮬레이션을 활용한 전문심장구조술(ACLS) 실습프로그램의 효과 - 응급구조과 학생을 대상으로 -)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study is to confirm the effect of ACLS program using simulations and understanding self-efficacy, practice satisfaction, learning attitude, and interest in ACLS after theory classes and simulation-based practice. Methods: A non-equivalent simulation-based practice post test design was used. The participants were 28 paramedic students. The students participated in simulation-based practice for 3 weeks and conventional instruction class for 12 weeks. Results: The students showed higher level of self-efficacy(p=.043), practice satisfaction(p<.001) and learning attitude(p=.003) compared to the conventional lecture students. Conclusion: Level of self-efficacy after simulation-based practice for ACLS was higher than that of self-efficacy after conventional instruction classes. Level of practice satisfaction was also higher. Academic achievement after simulation-based practice was higher than that in conventional instruction classes.

Fatigue Crack Growth, Coalescence Behavior and its Simulation on Multi-Surface Cracks Under the Elevated Temperature (고온하 복수 표면균열의 성장 합체거동과 시뮬레이션에 관한 연구)

  • A simulation program concerned with multi-surface fatigue cracks which initiated at the semi-circular surface notches has been developed to predict their growth and coalescence behaviors at the elevated temperature. Three kinds of coalescence models such as SPC(surface point connection), ASME and BSI(British Standards Institution) conditions were applied, and the results of the simulation were compared with those of the experiment. This simulation is able to enhance the reliance and integrity of structures especially under the elevated temperature which have lots of difficulties in experiments and applications. This shows that the simulation result has utility for fatigue life prediction. Even though all the specimens were the same shape, the error rate was increased in accordance with the applied stress to the specimen. Among the material constants C and m in the narrow band, the results applied upper values of the band to the simulation has shown quite small error compared with the experiment results.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of nursing simulation-based practice education on learning outcome and teaching experience in nursing students. Pretest-posttest design with nonequivalent control group was utilized to analyze the effects of nursing simulation-based practice education. The subjects were 96 students of a nursing college. All subjects participated in 6 week. The data were analyzed by the SPSS win 17.0 program. The results were as follows; There were statistically significant differences in learning outcome and teaching experience effects of nursing simulation-based practice education in nursing students. In conclusion, we required nursing simulation-based practice education and small group discussion analysis of factors are associated with goal-setting skills and self-presentation skills, goal setting skills. We required nursing simulation-based practice education training to strengthen the ability of self-directed learning program utilizing the repeated study.

  • In this paper, a production process system simulation of the automobile relay switch manufacturing factory is studied. The status of the present production system is inspected first, and the modified model is simulated next. To inspect the effect of the process parameter change, a simulation program is developed using PROMODEL simulation software plus the EXCEL VBA and Active X Automation function. Using the developed simulation program, user can find the best production condition and alternatives on the production capacity, number of workers, and inspection status considering the defective ratio of the product. The feasibility of the new alternatives is compared with the present system using statistical method.

  • This article describes the application of discrete event simulation in a process industry (coffee manufacturing) as a daily production-scheduling tool. A large number of end products (around 300), sporadic demand, and limited shelf life of coffee (90 days) make it difficult to generate feasible production schedules manually. To solve this problem an integrated system was developed incorporating discrete event simulation methodology into scheduling process. The integrated system is comprised of two components: a scheduling program and a simulation model. The scheduling program is used to generate daily schedules for roasting, grinding, and packing coffee. The simulation model uses the generated schedules to simulate the production of coffee and regenerates a modified production schedule. In this paper, each of the components will be described in detail, evaluated in terms of performance factors, and validated with a set of real production data. Although this article focuses on a specific system, we will share our experiences and intuitions gained and encourage other process industries to develop simulation-based scheduling tools.
