  • Korea's overseas construction industry has been rather depressed by the weakened profitability as well as the sharp decrease of the market shares due to the lack of international competitiveness and the declined international market following the outbreak of Iraq war. There exist a lot of various risks in performing the overseas construction, and especially EPC projects, which entail complicated process from different parts, also require a sophisticated procurement and management skill. Subsequently, to survive in the competitive international market, we need to establish strategies to select potentially profitable projects at the initial stage of bidding process and to mitigate the high degree of risk exposures through contract negotiation and its adjustment. This research provides the profitability evaluation bases, with which overseas construction participants can forecast and analyze the risk more systematically, by eliciting profit-influencing factors from real overseas construction projects and structuring their cause-and-effect relationships. The profitability causal hierarchy structure describes the profitability factors' hierarchy in details and their interrelationships. It also enables us to find out critical factors directly related to profitability aggravation through a qualitative analysis. Ultimately, with this hierarchy structure as the base, the research will suggest how to develop the quantitative profitability forecasting model.

  • Bitcoin (BTC) is a cryptocurrency proposed by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. Bitcoin makes its transactions with no central authorities. This decentralization is accomplished with its mining, which is an operation that makes people compete to solve math puzzles to include new transactions into block, and eventually block chains (ledger) of bitcoin. Because miners need to solve a complex puzzles, they need a lot of computing resources. In return for miners' resources, bitcoin network gives newly minted bitcoins as a reward to miners when they succeed in mining. To prevent inflation, the reward is halved every 4 years. For example, in 2009 block reward was 50 BTC, but today, the block reward is 12.5 BTC. On the other hands, exchange rate for bitcoin and Korean Won (KRW) changed drastically from 924,000 KRW/BTC (January 12th, 2017) to 16,103,306 KRW/BTC (December 10th, 2017), which made mining more attractive. However, there are no rigorous researches on the profitability of bitcoin mining. In this paper, we evaluate the profitability of bitcoin mining.

The information is only at the level of compliance with the requirements of Circular 155/2015/TT-BTC in form, but in essence is sketchy. What factors affect the level of voluntary disclosure of listed companies in Vietnam? In order to identify the factors affecting voluntary information disclosure on annual reports of listed companies, the study collected data on annual reports of 122 companies listed on the stock market in Ho Chi Minh City in the period 2015-2018 and uses regression analysis methods. The research presents 8 factors affecting the level of voluntary information disclosure including: Firm size, Listed time, Profitability, Solvency, Separation of board of directors and executive director, Board size, Organizational ownership and Foreign ownership. Next, the study conducted descriptive statistical analysis correlation coefficient analysis to examine the correlation and relevance of independent variables measured by the scale ratio, testing multiple linear regression model. • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of the new marine leisure ships. In order to achieve the research purpose, the cost and income were calculated based on the operating of other marine leisure ships, and the feasibility of the project was empirically analyzed. This study established a research model that applies the values derived by empirically analyzing ships with similar specifications, to the new marine leisure ships. We then calculated the cost-benefit analysis, net present value, and internal return, and evaluated the feasibility of the project based on this. As a result of the business feasibility analysis of investing in marine leisure ship, it was found that economic feasibility exists with a B/C of 1.042 and 1.049 for new and secondhand ships, respectively; however, considering the stability of the ship and the publicity and continuity of the business operation, it is recommended to invest in new ships compared to secondhand ships. The total benefit over the 10-year operating period using a social discount rate of 4.5% was evaluated to be about KRW 292.0 billion, which is higher than the total cost of KRW 256.6 billion. In conclusion, the profitability analysis showed that the B/C was 1.042, the NPV was KRW 193 billion, and the IRR was 2.1%, which indicates that profitability is weakly secured.

  • The research aims to study the relationship between export performance and stock return of Vietnamese fishery companies. To conduct this study, quarterly data was collected for period from 2010-2018 of 13 fishery companies listing in Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) and Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX). The export performance was measured by export intensity, export growth and export market coverage. In addition, interest rate, exchange rate, GDP, firm size, profitability, and financial leverage were considered as the control variables in the research model. Panel data analysis with Generalized Least Squares model was employed to estimate the predictive regression. The findings indicated that export intensity and export growth have a significant and positive relationship with stock returns. However, export market coverage has not a significant relationship with stock return at the 0.05 level. Profitability, financial leverage, and exchange rate have a positive relationship, while interest rate and GDP have no relation to stock return at the 0.05 significance level. The findings imply that investors should consider the export intensity instead of export growth and export market coverage as selecting stock of fishery exports firms to invest; managers should increase export intensity to increase company's stock price or firm market value.

  • This study investigates the typology of Internet business models according to revenue sources, and empirically tests how the revenue sources of each Internet business model are different each other. This study consists of the following two steps. First, AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) is adopted in developing the influential factors(indexes) for the profitability of each Internet business model and the weight score of each factor. The questionnaire for AHP consists of 47 questions on 9-point scales, and was distributed to 10 experts on Internet business model. Expert Choice program has been used for analysis. Second, the questionnaire to survey the current profitability of each Internet business model was developed on 5-point scale. In order to analyze the actual revenue quality and source of Internet business models, we used MANOVA and ANOVA. This study contributes to develop the desirable revenue or profit model of each Internet business model, and also provides a reference in evaluation of the revenue quality of Internet business models.

  • Recently Korean film industry has continuously experienced a rapid growth and expanded its influence to foreign countries. Accordingly, there have been numerous studies in various research areas to investigate the characteristics of the industry. In this study, we applied social network analysis based on the attributes such as genres, ratings, distributors, nationalities, sizes, and profitability to divide the movies into several clusters with respect to their similarity. Results suggested that the ratings and nationality rather than the genre are the major factors to divide the motion picture market into clusters and the profitability also varies much across the clusters. Furthermore, estimation of the diffusion model showed the positive relationship between the success of a movie and the word-of-mouth effect, while the relatively unsuccessful titles exhibited a monotonic decreasing diffusion pattern with the high initial demand and the early peak time.

  • The price of the hospitals' services is regulated by the governmental health insurance reimbursement schedule in Korea. On the other hand, the emphasis on the quality of care of hospitals service is ever increasing. Under the environment, hospitals have to understand the effects of the activities to improve quality of care on efficiency and on financial performance so that they develop a management strategy that allows quality of care, operational efficiency, and financial achievement simultaneously. This study investigates the relationship among the concepts. The sample for the study includes 23 hospitals that have more than 300 beds. The concept of quality of care is measured by the score reported by the Hospital Standardization Survey (HSS) instituted by Korean Hospital Association. Efficiency is measured by the ratio of number of employee to the number of patients served. Financial performance is measured by the financial ratios indicating the profitability of a hospital. An analysis is performed using the multiple regression. The results show significant positive relationships between the HSS score and efficiency indicators, md between the HSS score and profit measures. However, the significant positive relationship between the HSS score and profit measures disappeared when efficiency indicators were introduced to the model. This study concludes that the structural quality of a hospital has a positive effect on efficiency of the hospital and that the structural qualify indirectly affects the financial performance of a hospital through the improvement of efficiency. Based on the findings, the implications on hospital management and health policy are discussed.
