Measurement of Age-Related Changes in Bone Matrix Using 2H2O Labeling

  • Age-related changes in bone metabolism are well established by biochemical markers of bone matrix in serum and urine, but analysis of the residual bone matrix, which is still turning over, has not been investigated. In the present study, we measured in vivo rates of bone protein synthesis using a precursor-product method based on the exchange of ²H from ²H₂O into amino acids. Four percent ²H₂O was administered to mice in drinking water after intraperitonial (i.p) bolus injection of 99.9% ²H₂O. Mice were divided into the two groups: growing young mice were administered 4% ²H₂O for 12 weeks after an i.p bolus injection at 5 week of age, whereas weight stable adult mice started drinking 4% ²H₂O 8 weeks later than the growing group and continued 4% ²H₂O drinking for 8 weeks. Mass isotopomer abundance in alanine from bone protein was analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Body ²H₂O enrichments were in the range of 1.88-2.41% over the labeling period. The fractional synthesis rates (ks) of bone protein were 2.000±0.071%/d for growing mice and 0.243±0.014%/d for adult mice. These results demonstrate that the bone protein synthesis rate decreases with age and present direct evidence of age-related changes in bone protein synthesis.

Disruptions of Two Apparent rho-Independent Transcription Terminator Structures do not help in Enhancing the Expression of aceK in E. coli

  • Two apparent rho-independent transcription terminator structures within the coding sequence of aceK have been destroyed to access their roles in the differential expression between aceA and aceK in the glyoxylate bypass operon of E. coli. The effect of mutations on the expression of aceK was evaluated in two different ways: one by maxicell labeling and the other by lacZ fusion gene construction. The maxicell labeling experiment with the mutant operon clones has failed, like that of the wild type operon clone, to visibly show isocitrate dehrogenase (IDH) kinase/phosphatase, the product of aceK, on the autoradiogram of a protein gel. When the same mutations were introduced into an aceK::lacZ fusion gene to quantitatively evaluate the mutational effect, the activity of ${\beta}-galactosidase$ in neither of the mutant versions of the fusion gene was elevated significantly enough to explain the degree of polarity observed in this region. Thus, we conclude that neither of these intragenic, apparent rho-independent transcription terminator structures, which have long been suspected as a major determinant in the down regulation of aceK, really act as a premature transcriptional terminator.

국내 중소식품업체의 포장·디자인 기술 관련 현황 분석 (Survey on Status of Food Packaging and Design for Status of Small and Medium Domestic Food Enterprises)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status relating to food packaging and design for status of small and medium food enterprises. A company survey was conducted from June to October, 2015 and targeted 1300 small and medium domestic food enterprises. Finally, a total of 1300 (recovery rate 100%) useable data were selected. Statistical analyses were performed on the data utilizing the SPSS PASW Statistics 18.0 for Windows, such as descriptive statistics and frequency analysis. According to the results, awareness and importance of food labeling were high, but performance of English inscription of product name was relatively low. The most important reason for food labeling was 'providing correct information on food' 910 (72.8%). Accordingly, a system which can provide the latest information by continuously monitoring mandatory disclosure requirements for types of foods in individual countries is needed.

Fast and Easy Drying Method for the Preparation of Activated [18F]Fluoride Using Polymer Cartridge

  • An efficient nucleophilic [$^{18}F$]fluorination has been studied to reduce byproducts and preparation time. Instead of conventional aqueous solution of $K_2CO_3-K_{222}$, several organic solution containing inert organic salts were used to release [$^{18}F$]fluoride ion and anion bases captured in the polymer cartridge, concluding that methanol solution is the best choice. Comparing to azeotropic drying process, one min was sufficient to remove methanol completely, resulting in about 10% radioactivity saving by reducing drying time. The polymer cartridge, Chromafix$^{(R)}$ (PS-$HCO_3$) was pretreated with several anion bases to displace pre-loaded bicarbonate base. Phosphate bases showed better results than carbonate bases in terms of lower basicity. tert-Butanol solvent used as a reaction media played another critical role in nucleophilic [18F]fluorination by suppressing eliminated side product. Consequent [$^{18}F$]fluorination under the present condition afforded fast preparation of reaction solution and high radiochemical yields (98% radio-TLC, 84% RCY) with 94% of precursor remained.

  • The customer demand for diverse colors in home appliances has increased. However, this has led to issues for manufacturers, such as ensuring cost effectiveness and high-level quality control. To resolve these issues, production engineers utilize computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for injection-molding processes and assess the suitability of process parameters for products manufactured using the in-mold labeling method. CAE can solve various problems in manufacturing processes, thereby increasing production efficiency and decreasing manufacturing cost. In addition, it can be used analyze customer complaints related to surface defects, such as part differences and irregular spacing between parts, and ultimately reduce product returns. In this study, CAE was used to solve quality problems and implement the most economical manufacturing process.

  • 최근, 의료 영상 분야에서 딥러닝은 가장 활발하게 연구되고 있는 기술 중 하나이다. 충분한 데이터와 최신의 딥러닝 알고리즘은 딥러닝 모델의 개발에 중요한 요소이다. 하지만 일반화된 최적의 딥러닝 모델을 개발하기 위해서는 데이터의 양과 최신의 딥러닝 알고리즘 외에도 많은 것을 고려해야 한다. 데이터 수집부터 가공, 전처리, 모델의 학습 및 검증, 경량화까지 모든 과정이 딥러닝 모델의 성능에 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문이다. 본 종설에서는 의료 영상에 최적화된 딥러닝 모델을 위해 개발 과정 각각에서 고려해야 할 중요한 요소들을 살펴보고자 한다.

Identification of eleven species of the Pleuronectidae family using DNA-based techniques

  • Flatfish are one of the largest families in the order Pleuronectiformes and are economically important edible marine fish species. However, they have similar morphological characteristics leading to challenges in classifying correctly, which may result in mislabeling and illegal sales, such as fraudulent labeling of processed food. Therefore, accurate identification is important to ensure the quality and safety of domestic markets in Korea. Species-specific primers were prepared from the mainly consumed eleven species of the order Pleuronectiformes. To rapidly identify the 11 flatfish species, a highly efficient, rapid, multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with species-specific primers was developed. Species-specific primer sets were designed for the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene. Species-specific multiplex PCR (MSS-PCR) either specifically amplified a PCR product of a unique size or failed. This MSS-PCR analysis is easy to perform and yields reliable results in less time than the previous Sanger sequencing methods. This technique could be a powerful tool for the identification of the 11 species b the family Pleuronectidae and can contribute to the prevention of falsified labeling and protection of consumer rights.

  • 조립체 공정은 많은 부분이 자동화 되었지만 결함 진단 부분에서는 포괄적인 의사 결정을 지원하기 위해 다양한 분야의 전문성과 지식을 필요로 하기 때문에 자동화가 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 분야의 전문가가 쉽게 접근할 수 있고 직관적으로 이해할 수 있는 영상 정보를 이용한 조립체 결함 분석 지원시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템은 영상 정보와 제품 설계 정보 그리고 결함탐지 정보를 병합함으로써 조립체에서 효과적으로 결함을 분석하도록 지원한다. 제안된 방법은 라벨링을 이용하여 조립체의 영상을 부품 단위로 분할하고 확장된 속성 관계 그래프(eARG)를 사용하여 설계 정보와 결함 분석 정보를 일관되게 표현하여 결함 정보를 영상 정보로부터 접근할 수 있도록 한다.

우리나라 가공식품의 칼슘강화 현황에 관한 조사 연구 (A Study on the Current Status of Calcium fortification in the Processed Foods in Korea)

  • 서울시내 백화점과 대형 마트에서 판매되는 칼슘강화식품을 조사하여 이들을 곡류가공품, 우유 및 유제품, 식.어육가공품, 라면류, 레토르트식품, 쥬스 및 음료류, 기타로 분류하고 각 제품에 표기된 영양표시를 중심으로 현재 우리나라 칼슘강화 현황과 영양표시 실태를 살펴보았다. 그러나 본 조사에서는 특정인을 위한 건강보조식품이나 특수영양식품 및 유아용 조제유와 이유식은 대상에서 제외하였다. 조사된 캄슘강화식품은 총 81건이었으며 곡류가공품, 라면류를 중심으로 광범위한 식품군에 강화되었다. 특히 칼슘이 기호식품에 첨가됨으로서 소비자의 식사 패턴과 기호도에 따라 개인별로 칼슘 섭취량의 차이가 클 가능성이 있었다. 그리고 칼슘강화식품은 대부분 칼슘이 단독으로 강화되었고 그 다음으로 칼슘 이외에 1종의 영양소가 추가로 강화된 제품들이 많았고 식품군에 따라서는 약간의 차이를 보였다. 특히 우유 및 유제품 식품군은 다중 강화식품군으로 한 제품과 칼슘과 1~8종의 영양소가 동시에 강화되었다. 또한 같이 첨가되는 영양소의 종류는 DHA가 가장 많았으며 그 외에 비타민류, 무기질류 등이 있었다. 제품의 칼슘함량을 표시하는 기준단위는 주로 '100g/100mL', '포장중량'이었으며 각 제품에 대한 소비자들의 실제 섭취량을 비교하기 위해 칼슘함량을 '1인 분량'당 % RDA로 환산해보면 2.5~27.6% RDA 범위였다. 특히 칼슘이 강화된 제품의 칼슘함량이 '1인 분량'당 10% RDA에도 미달되는 제품들이 많아 강화함량에 대한 전반적인 평가가 필요했다. 영양표시는 표시기준에 규정되지 않은 용어가 사용되고 규정된 용어를 사용하더라도 함량기준에 미달되는 경우가 있는 등 몇 가지 문제점을 드러냈다. 그러므로 영양강화가 제 역할을 다하기 위해서는 시대적인 요구에 능동적으로 대처하는 관련 정부기관의 노력과 식품업계의 강화에 따르는 기술력 향상 및 사후 품질관리가 필요했다. 또한 학술기관에서는 이에 대한 기초연구가 소비자들 대상으로 영양교육을 실시하고 소비자 스스로도 자신에 맞는 식품을 선택할 수 있는 능력을 갖추도록 꾸준한 노력과 관심을 가져야 할 것이다.

중년여성 브랜드를 통한 기본 스커트의 치수실태 및 패턴분석 (An Analysis of Size System and Patterns of Ready to Wear Basic Skirts for Middle Age Women)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze of size and patterns of ready to wear basic for middle age women. For this purpose, I select 9 brands and analyze the basic skirts size system marketed in 2002 spring in Korea. To study the actual size system, I have compared size labeling, which I researched, with Korean Industrial Standard Size Chart. And I also have compared body measurement with the product size. To study the pattern, I have classified the composition of the skirt into 24 items. The different result shows between this study and Korean Industrial Standard Size Chart. The waist circumference is smaller than it should be, and the hip circumference is larger than it should be. As I have examined the body measurement and the product size, variability of the waist circumference depends on the location of the waistline. For the hip circumference, I have found that both the body measurement and the product size are same, or the product size is smaller than the body measurement. Both cases have been found to be over 67%. I have classified the analysis of the pattern into four components; circumference, relevance to waist line, dart, and length. For the waist circumference, the same size of the front and the back is 44.4%, and making the front larger is 44.4% also. In the hip circumference, the identical size of the front and the back is 66.7% and the larger size of back is 22.2%. Regarding darts placement, it is moved to the side lines from the middle of 1/2 of waist lines, dart intake was 1.3~3.2 cm, the length of darts is 7.2~12.7 cm.
