  • Product line is nowadays well known as a representative method for reuse. In the product line, important assets are components. Although enough concerns were given of the product line, it was not accomplished to structure and specify a product-line component with variability. This paper presents an approach to specify components in the product line. The approach describes the static and dynamic structure of a product-line component and explains the behavior and concurrency of the component. The component information is separately described in the black-box and white-box using the Feature-Oriented Reuse Method(FORM). This research also formalizes the data on a component specification in the form of BNF. The specification is described through careful consideration for many different characteristics of the product-line component, so this paper helps to easily develop the components in the product line and to well comprehend how to apply a method for the product line.

  • Ship design requirements described in the building specification should be reflected in the design process. This paper identifies the configuration of requirements mentioned in the building specification using Ontology Representation Language (OWL). Ontology-based semantic search system specifies the requirement items. Through this extraction, building specifications mentioned for each entry are configured to the tree. Tracking requirements for ship design and a set of procedures to instruct is also used for the V model of systems engineering. The semantic search engine of robot agent and ontology can search the requirements specification document and extract the design information. Thereafter, design requirements for the tracking model that proposes the relationship between the associated BOM(bill of material) and product structure.

  • The specifications which are drawn up when developing a software cannot achieve continuous automation because of individual qualities of them, and many inconsistent elements can be discovered even from software audit. In this paper, we establish the standards for the classification of inconsistent items by analysing audit related data in order to maintain the consistency among specifications drawn up in the phases of analysis and design. We propose the specification inconsistent item detection method. This can reduce the error of the specification which is drawn up from analysis and design phase with it will be able to improve the quality of the software which is a last product. It can improve the quality of the software which is a last product, by reducing the error of the specification which is drawn up from analysis and design phase.

  • Product line engineering(PLE) is one of the recent and effective reuse approaches that enables developing a number of applications by instantiating a core asset. Elements of a core asset are product line architecture(PLA), component, and decision model. Among these elements, PLA is the key element since it defines the overall structure of the core asset. Although numerous PLE methodologies have been introduced, it is still unclear what should be the elements of a PLA and how to systematically instantiate it for specific applications. Formal specifications can play a key role in defining detailed and precise instantiation process. In this paper, we first present a meta model of PLA and show how to specify PLA in a formal language, Object-Z. Then, we propose instantiation rules using formal specification and those rules precisely define constraints for instantiating PLA. By applying the proposed formal specification, we believe PLA instantiation can be carried out precisely and correctly, yielding high quality software development.

  • In a feature modeling, problems such as ambiguities, interpretation errors, incompleteness, etc caused by informal specification occur in the modeling phase. Therefore, feature specification method and processes are suggested in this paper to resolve these problems. The structure and language of feature modeling is defined in this paper to specify various features. First, this feature model is abstracted in the meta-level to get predicates and attributes. Formal feature model specification method is proposed using multi-paradigm language. Second, Feature specification process is proposed to describe how to specify feature formally. And third, Feature interaction management is defined to solve the problems caused between specified features. Finally, the proposed feature specification method is applied to Distributed Meeting Scheduler System domain.

  • In customer-oriented make-to-order manufacturing environments, the works of BOM changes due to the changes of product specification and engineering are closely connected with almost all departments such as sales, engineering, production, procurement, cost, after service, etc within an enterprise. So, the contents of BOM changes must be instantly reflected on the related works among the departments. To effectively process these complex works of BOM changes, types of changes on product specification and engineering and types of BOM changes linked with those must be systematically defined, classified and managed by information systems. Thus, it is necessary to introduce solutions such as BPM and SOA in order to efficiently deal with complex business processes like BOM change management. This paper proposes a methodology of constructing information systems based on BPM and SOA. The proposed methodology defines the relationship between processes of BPM for definition, execution, monitoring, etc of business processes and services of SOA for connection among information systems within an enterprise, and presents a scheme of practically applying BPM and SOA solutions to actual business works. To show an utilization of the proposed methodology, the prototype system for product BOM management is implemented in order to efficiently deal with the works of BOM changes due to the changes of product specification and engineering.

  • The Specification-Oriented Control Chart is obtained by moving from the tolerance limits toward the center line. And when chart are based on center lines, no automatic tie-in with tolerance is provided. The author recomend the Specification-Oriented Control Chart in instances where tolerance limits on the individual unit or product must be met.

  • A flexible and correct model of the activity flows is required for workflows in product development environments. In particular, the design activity flows are not known until run-time, and conventional approaches have limit to handle this situation because they cannot predefine all the potentially reachable paths. Thus, the structure of the workflow model must be flexible enough to describe variety in workflow design and accommodate dynamic changes during workflow execution. In this paper, we provide the general primitive axioms and change patterns based on event calculus for dynamic workflow specification and execution mechanisms in product development environments. Also, we describe how to execute the workflow dynamically based on the workflow specification and workflow change patterns using abductive planning technique.

  • Recently, as various IP set-top boxes based on Android OS have been widely used in general households and public facilities, complaints about services and set-top boxes have continued to increase as much as other smart devices. In order to reduce this problem, the manufacturer performs the testing work before the product is commercialized. However, the testing can reduce potential defects in the product, but it can not prove that the product is free of defects. Therefore, the quality of the product can vary depending on how effective testing techniques are introduced. In this paper, we propose a new exploratory testing method that minimizes test case creation time and makes it easier to plan and execute test while simultaneously learning how to run the product under test. Using the first proposed method, the test time is reduced by about 16.7 hours and the defect detection rate is 25.4% higher than the formal specification-based testing method. Informally, the test time was shortened by about 4.7 hours and the defect detection rate was 13% higher than the informal experience-based testing method.

  • In apparel industry, the worksheet or product specification document has the function of products design. Drawing up worksheet exactly is important to quality control of apparel products. Every company needs to manage the product data of design-centric to establish TQM environment. In order to control the quality data of design-centric, an apparel worksheet system was developed by using the function of product data management system.
