  • The basic idea of Quality Function Deployment(QFD) is to deploy the voice of customers into the final product through product planning, part planning, process planning, and manufacturing. In the product planning stage, which is the first stage of product development, customer attributes(CAs) are translated into engineering characteristics(ECs). Then, based on the relationship between CAs and ECs, the target values of ECs are determined. In the previous research, the process of analyzing these relationships is mostly subjective in nature. In this article, we formulate the process of determining the target values of ECs as an optimization model. That is, we first determine the relationship between CAs and ECs as cumulative logit models and construct constraints into which the company strategy as well as the needs of customers can be incorprated. Next, cost functions of ECs are developed, which are summed into an objective function. An algorithm to solve the formulated optimization problem is developed and illustrated with an example.

  • This study is intended to examine the current situation and the problems of the "worksheets, regarding various factors that exert influences onto the quality-risk management, which is one of the most significant factors specifying an apparel product. This paper advances according to the following sequences: 1. Literature survey 2. Field research on actual "apparel vendors" and production factories 3. Investigating the requirements relating to the worksheet 4. Developing standard format of the worksheet 5. Effectiveness analysis on the standard worksheet 6. Proposal of an intelligent model applying standard worksheet system. This study is performed with the following research methods; those are questionnaire surveys, statistical analysis, interviews, collecting & analyzing worksheets, product sample quality experiment, functional analysis of the system, and materialization of the prototype system. The significance of this research is that it suggests the possible effective use of worksheet, which reflects the customers' needs in terms of the product quality, at the stage of the product planning process. Despite its importance, the current work structure does not visibly reflect these components. Therefore, with the result of this research, it is considered that the worksheet systems will meet more useful improvements in risk management process. The limitations of this research are as follows. Although it is evident that the standard worksheets bring effective results in quality improvements of products, considerations must be made onto some additional payoffs arising from the additional cost of necessary labor forces with expert knowledge and cost of the effort and time inputting correct information for running the system.

  • The global laundry detergents market in 2021 was valued at nearly $121 billion, with consumers being reported as heightening their search for hygienic products capable of fighting viruses. Therefore, the researchers undertook a study to determine how product innovation (PI), product quality (PQ), and product attitude (PA) effects Thai consumers' satisfaction (CS) with their purchase of laundry detergent and fabric softener. After the questionnaire's validity and reliability confirmation, the authors used multi-stage random sampling by region and province in January and February 2022 to collect 520 questionnaires. LISREL 9.10 was used in the CFA and SEM analysis of the six hypotheses, which were determined to be supported. The results showed that all three causal variables positively influenced CS, with a total effect (TE) R2 value = 87%. Also, latent variable total effect (TE) values showed that PI was strongest (0.93), then PQ (0.56), and finally, PA (0.54). Therefore, consumer satisfaction is essential in a firm's ongoing development and sustainability in a highly competitive, globalized world. Organizations must develop competitive strategies that adjust to consumer needs. Management must monitor online and social media sources where product reviews are given and adjust their strategies accordingly.

  • Purpose - This paper analyzes how Research and Development (R&D) cartelization and Research Joint Ventures (RJV) affect firms that engage in Cournot competition in their product market using a model in which the Home and Foreign firm produce differentiated products and export their total output to a third country's market. Design/Methodology - In a two-stage game, research expenditures incurred in the first stage improve product quality and are subject to various degrees of spillovers. We consider four different scenarios. Findings - In a symmetric equilibrium we observe the following: (i) an RJV that cooperates in R&D decision yields the highest R&D expenditure. However, the scenario which yields the lowest expenditure depends on the extent of differentiation between the goods and the degree of spillovers; (ii) RJV cartelization yields the highest product quality, output, and consumer surplus in the third country; however, the lowest is produced by R&D competition if spillovers are strong and by R&D cartelization if spillovers are weak; and (iii) each firm's profit is at its minimum in R&D competition and its maximum in RJV cartelization. Furthermore, if spillovers are strong, the profit of each firm in R&D cartelization is greater than that in RJV competition, and vice versa. Originality/value - By analyzing product innovation in international markets, we can find similarities and differences between process R&D and product R&D in international markets.
