  • The Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2 (KOMPSAT -2) will be launched into a circular sun synchronous orbit in Dec. 2005. For the mission operation of the KOMPSAT-2 satellite, KARl Ground Station (KGS) consists of the Mission Control Elements (MCE), Image Reception & Processing Elements (IRPE) and the overseas stations. For the oversea stations, the Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) is the prime supplier of support service. KSAT has the capability to provide Tracking Telemetry and Commanding (TT&C) nominal, contingency and anomaly support for every single orbit for most polar orbiting satellites. Also KSAT provides nodal service through the network management functionality for all oversea ground stations. This paper describes the oversea stations and the support for Launch and nominal TT&C services for KOMPSAT-2 and the operation plan for KOMPSAT-2.

  • Purpose: Grain slurry diet are described as food obtained from ground grain paste. They serve as highly nutritious food for both adults and infants in Nigeria because of their immense nutritive and economical value. However, the production of these grain slurry diets is confronted with challenges that have hampered their commercialization. This study examines the trends and constraints of grain slurry food processing in Kaduna State. Methods: A survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire to elicit information from 192 selected processors, including both men and women. The survey was structured in line with the study objectives. The information was collated and synopsized into frequency distribution. Results: These findings revealed that 80% of the respondents processed between 1.0 tons and 13.0 tons of grain slurry per month. More than 90% of the processors processed grain slurry into koko, kunu, agidi, and pito. Accordingly, 80% of the interviewed processors indicated that sieving is one of the major constraints. Furthermore, inadequate modern machinery required to perform this operation makes it highly discouraging. One of the major challenges faced by the grain slurry producers in Nigeria is the lack of processing machinery for most operations (39.1%), followed by the tedious processing nature (27.1%), high labor cost (18.1%), and lack of market (9.4%). The traditional method of grain slurry processing was more popular than using modern equipment, except milling (96.5%), which is the only mechanized unit operation in grain slurry processing. Conclusion: Grain slurry processing and marketing were found to be profitable. However, these limitations could extremely reduce the level of grain slurry production, processing, and economic returns, thereby affecting the general wellbeing of the processors. The study also raised concerns about the safety and hygiene associated with traditionally processed grain slurry diets in the investigated areas.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the radiographic change of operation sites after orthognathic surgery using the digital image processing and fractal analysis. Materials and Methods : A series of panoramic radiographs of thirty-five randomly selected patients who had undergone mandibular orthognathic surgery (bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy) without clinical complication for osseous healing, were taken. The panoramic radiographs of each selected patient were taken at pre-operation (stage 0), 1 or 2 days after operation (stage 1), 1 month after operation (stage 2), 6 months after operation (stage 3), and 12 months after operation (stage 4). The radiographs were digitized at 600 dpi, 8 bit, and 256 gray levels. The region of interest, centered on the bony gap area of the operation site, was selected and the fractal dimension was calculated by using the tile-counting method. The mean values and standard deviations of fractal dimension for each stage were calculated and the differences among stage 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 were evaluated through repeated measures of the ANOVA and paired t-test. Results : The mean values and standard deviations of the fractal dimensions obtained from stage 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 1.658±0.048, 1.580±0.050, 1.607±0.046, 1.624±0.049, and 1.641 ±0.061, respectively. The fractal dimensions from stage 1 to stage 4 were shown to have a tendency to increase (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The tendency of the fractal dimesion to increase relative to healing time may be a useful means of evaluating post-operative bony healing of the osteotomy site.

  • In this paper, we developed new time information recording module of VSI (VLBI Standard Interface) format by analyzing the Mark5B recorder control and operation software with 1Gbps speed, which is able to record the weak signal of space radio source, through the Korean VLBI Network (KVN). The control and operation software of high-speed recorder consists of 2 kinds of software, which is that it can operate RAID control board by controlling large capacity HDD drive and the network control and operation. Especially, core software in high-speed recorder is able to output the results after performing and analyzing the input command. Through the analysis of control and operation software, new time information recording module, which is needed to process the observed data for correlation, is developed. New developed time information recording module can record the time information together after checking the interrupt of 1PPS(Pulse Per Second) input signal when the observed data will be recorded. To verify the normal operation of the developed time information recording module, we performed the real observation test and confirmed the effectiveness of developed software through analyzing the recorded observation data.

  • measuring surface area errors can be brought about with different measuring people. This study aims at eliminating such errors in measurement. With measures by 3 people whose experience varies from person to person, the existing area measuring method using a planimeter and two other methods which use a computer (one using a digitizer and the other using a scanner) have been analyzed and compared. Three methods have not shown a meaningful difference in respect to the value" of area and two methods other than the one using a scanner have shown a meaningful difference among 3 measuring people. Therefore, we propose the method using a scanner by image processing should be a more improved one for area measuring. The arguments for that are as fllows. 1. The operation for measurement is simple and it has a high degree of accuracy with few errors. 2. Because different measuring people cause few errors the operation started by one person can be handed over to anyone else and the operation dosen't require previous skill. 3. Once image file is saved, the operation can be performed on several computers at the same time with seperate part on each computer. 4. Three methods have needed nearly the same length of time, but time for the method using a scanner can be reduced on computers with a higher capacity.th a higher capacity.

  • Operation time of a function or procedure is a thing that always needs to be optimized. Parallelizing the operation is the general method to reduce the operation time of the function. One of the most powerful parallelizing methods is using GPU. In image processing field, one of the most commonly used operations is morphology operation. Three types of morphology operations kernel, na$\ddot{i}$ve, global and shared, are presented in this paper. All kernels are made using CUDA and work parallel on GPU. Four morphology operations (erosion, dilation, opening, and closing) using square structuring element are tested on MRI images with different size to measure the speedup of the GPU implementation over CPU implementation. The results show that the speedup of dilation is similar for all kernels. However, on erosion, opening, and closing, shared kernel works faster than other kernels.

  • Recently, portable devices which require small area and low power consumption employ applications using 3D graphics such as 3D games and 3D graphical user interfaces. We propose an efficient clipping engine algorithm which is suitable in 3D graphics pipeline. The clipping operation is divided into two steps: one is the selection process in the transformation engine and the other is the pixel clipping process in the scan conversion unit. The clipping operation is possible with addition of simple comparator. The clipping for the Y-axis is achieved in the edge walk stage and that for the X and Z-axis is performed in the span processing. The proposed clipping algorithm reduces the operation cycles and the area of of 3D graphics pipelines. We designed a 3D graphics pipeline with the proposed clipping algorithm using Verilog-HDL and verifies the operation using an FPGA.
