  • A FFT array processor algorithm and architecture which anc use a minumum required number of simple, duplicate multiplier-adder processing elements according to various computation speed, will be presented. It is based on the p fold symmetry in the radix p constant geometry FFT butterfly stage with shuffled inputs and normally ordered outputs. Also, a methodology to implement a high performance high radix FFT with VLSI by constructing a high radix processing element with the duplications of a simple lower radix processing element will be discussed. Various performances and the trade-off between computation speed and hardware complexity will be evaluated and compared. Bases on the presented architecture, a radix 2, 8 point FFT processing element chip has been designed and it structure and the results will be discusses.

  • Half channel angular extrusion(HCAE) is the integration of equal channel angular extrusion(ECAE), which is a well-known severe plastic deformation(SPD) method, with conventional forward extrusion in order to increase the strain per pass and effectiveness of the grain refinement. In the current study, the effects of processing routes during HCAE(Routes A, B, and C) on the strain distribution of the specimens have been investigated for an AZ61 Mg alloy by using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Comparisons with the results from a multi-pass of ECAE are made.

  • In this paper, a numerical methodology for health monitoring of weldment was proposed using finite element method coupled with continuum damage mechanics. The welding-induced residual stress distribution of T-joint weldment was calculated using a commercial finite element package SYSWELD+. The distribution of latent damage was evaluated from the stress and strain components taken as the output of a finite element calculation. Numerical examples were given to demonstrate the usefulness of this so-called "post-processing approach" in the case of welding-induced damage assessment.

  • In this study, we analyzed the heat generation state of a flat heating element by using image processing technology in conjunction with carbon fiber. The flat heating element is manufactured by chopping the carbon fiber to a small size and bonding it again using a dispersing agent. The solution of carbon fiber, bound together using the dispersant, is then filtered onto the nonwoven fabric. The last step is to obtain flat carbon fibers in the form of nonwoven fabrics for the purpose of drying the filtered carbon fibers. In the flat heating element, electricity may be applied to the carbon fiber on the surface produced in this manner. In this study, the flat heating element was analyzed by four methods. The analysis of the heat generation characteristics and heating rate of the flat heating element confirmed that the fabricated sheet heating element corresponds to a normal army. The analysis of the insulation coating and flat heating element module, which can be used for actual product manufacturing, involves two dimensional image analysis using image processing technology. The thermal image analysis of the flat heating element is a programming technique that not only analyzes the heat generation state in both two and three dimensions, but also displays the upper and lower 15 to 20% ranges of temperature corresponding to the heat generation in the image. In the final analysis, it is possible to easily find the erroneous part in the manufacturing process by directly showing the state of the fabricated flat heating element on the screen. By combining this image analysis method of the flat heating element with the existing method, we were able to more accurately analyze the heat generation state.

  • Numerical simulations of the powder extrusion need an appropriate pressure-dependent constitutive model for densification modeling of the magnesium powders. The present research investigated the effect of representative powder yield function of the critical relative density model. We could obtain reasonable physical properties of pure magnesium powders using cold isostatic pressing. The proposed densification model was implemented into the finite element code. The finite element analysis was applied to simulation of powder extrusion of pure magnesium powder in order to investigate the densification and processing load at room temperature.

  • Until recently post-processing of finite element model has been Heavily relied on expensive graphic peripheral devices. For this reason many engineers and researchers can not afford to access to the graphics. with the aid of inexpensive personal computers very econmical post-processor graphics program called MICRO-POST has been developed in conjunction with low-cost printers and plotters. Model geometry or results of analysis for the unlimitted meshes either produced by mainframe or microcomputer can be easily and economi-call presented in a number of different graphic devices. The paper presents the procedure obtaining the device the independent graphics, and the structure and functions of the program. It also describes a new error-preventive dialogue type input technique to control the plot operation in an interactive manner. Through the post-processing examples for the general purpose finite element programs, it demonstrates the usefulness of the program.

  • A parallel nonlinear analysis program of prestressed concrete frame is migrated on a PC cluster system and a massively parallel processing system, CRAY T3E system, using MPI. The PC cluster system is configured with Pentium Ⅲ class PCs and fast ethernet. The CRAY T3E system is composed of a set of nodes each containing one Processing Element (PE), a memory subsystem and its distributed memory interconnect network. Parallel computing algorithms are implemented on element-wise processing parts including the calculation of stiffness matrix, element stresses and determination of material states, check of material failure and calculation of unbalanced loads. Parallel performance of the migrated program is evaluated through typical numerical examples.

  • Creep densification and grain growth of alumina powder compacts during high temperature processing were investigated. The creep densification and grain growth of alumina powder compacts during various sintering processes were analyzed by employing the consitutive model by Kwon and Kim. Theoretical results from the constitutive model were compared with various experimental data of alumina powder compacts in the literature including pressureless sintering, sinter forging and hot pressing. The proposed constitutive equations were implemented into finite element analysis program (ABAQUS) to simulate densification for more complicated geometry and loading conditions. The effects of friction between die and powder compact or punch and powder compact during sinter forging and hot pressing are investigated by using the finite element method. Also, high temperature forming processing of alumina compact with complicated shape was simulated.

  • The automobile industry is a wide range of related industries, including parts manufacturing and vehicle assembly, press processing is an essential element in making automobiles. Press processing is a processing method for metal sheets that has relatively high dimensional and shape precision and is suitable for mass production. It refers to processing by attaching a special tool, a mold, to a press machine. Recently, the automobile industry is attempting to reduce the weight of automobiles in order to reduce carbon emissions due to global warming, and the use of high-strength steel sheets, which are lighter than general structural steel sheets, is a natural trend. Shear processing is required to use high-strength steel, and the shape of the shear surface created by shear processing has a significant impact on the quality of the automobile. Therefore, various methods are being attempted to improve the share surface during shear processing. Among them, shaving processing is a method of shearing the primary shearing area again, and it is difficult to obtain an accurate answer because complex deformation occurs in the microscopic shear area. Therefore, in this study, the effect of machining allowance on shaving processing was analyzed using the finite element method using high-strength steel plate (SPFH590), and the differences were compared and examined through actual experiments under the same conditions.
