This paper describes an automated computer-aided engineering (CAE) system for micromachines whose size range 10 to 10$^3$${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. An automatic finite element mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated into the system, together with one of commercial finite clement (FE) analysis codes, MARC, and one of commercial solid modelers, Designbase. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be a automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, i.e. electrostatic analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis and so on. The FE analysis models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are performed. This system is successfully applied to an electrostatic micro actuator.

In general, FORTRAN is used for numerical analysis and OPS5 or LISP is used for expert systems, This causes problems at the interface because the various applications require different computing languages or environments. This paper describes the approach used to take AutoCAD as a user-interface for an existing finite element structural analysis package. Some principles concerning database management related to data-exchange interface of pre- and post-processing system for FORTRAN structural analysis program are discussed, and numerical examples demonstrate the power of the combination of these programs.
Finite element analysis showed that strong magnetic fields were distributed around the arc furnace where the strongest magnetic fields were generated around the three phase cables. The second and third strongest fields near the arc furnace were found to be generated around the electrodes and the mast-arms, respectively. The generated field intensities were greatly influenced by the mast arm structure of the arc furnace as well as the phase differences and operation currents of the supplied power, Magnetic field decay patterns around the arc furnace could be smoothly fitted by this equation of exponential formula, H=H$0_$+Ae$^{\frac{r}{t}}$. These results revealed that magnetic field intensities around the arc furnace could be estimated at any 3-dimensional position using finite element method (FEM).
This paper describes an automated evaluation of electrostatic field for micro motors whose sizes range 10 to 103um. Electric field modeling in micro motors has been generally restricted to in-plane two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). In this paper, the actual three-dimensional geometry of the micro motor is considered. An automatic FE mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated in the system, together with one of commercial FE analysis codes and one of commercial solid modelers. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, electrostatic analysis and stress analysis and so on. The FE models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are peformed. Then, analytical analysis and FE analysis about the torque generated by electrostatic micro motor are performed. The starting torque is proportional to $V^2$, the calculated starting torque from the two-dimensional analytical solutions are three times larger than those from the three-dimensional FE solutions.
Due to extremely large reduction of area or extrusion ratio in ordinary production of extruded profiles, anisotropy is naturally induced by large severe deformation during the extrusion process. Therefore, the anisotropic properties play a great role in the post processing of extruded profiles, such as in bending. Moreover, undesirable deformation will be involved when the deformation-induced anisotropy is ignored. In order to observe the deformation-induced anisotropy of the thin-walled product, the proposed algorithm is applied to some chosen industrial extrusion processes. In the present work, the method for prediction of deformation-induced anisotropy employing the Barlats six-component yield potential to the rigid-plastic finite element method is proposed. The proposed algorithm is verified with the comparison to the crystallographic texture analysis, and then applied to the C-section extrusion process using a square die. The predicted anisotropy is then compared with the experimental and computational observations for validating the proposed algorithm.

A Fuzzy Microprocessor(FMP) is presented, which is suitable for real-time control applications. The features include high speed inference of maximum 114K FLIPS at 20MHz system clocks, capability of up to 128-rule construction, and handing of 8 input variables with 8-bit resolution. In order to realize these features, the fuzzifier circuit and the processing element(PE) are well optimized for LSI implementation. The chip fabricated in 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology contains 71K transistors in 82.8 $\textrm{mm}^2$ die size and is packaged in 100-pin plastic QFP.

Mathematical morphology, theoretical foundation for morphological filter, is very efficient for the analysis of the geometrical characteristics of signals and systems and is used as a predominant tool for smoothing the data with noise. In this study, H/W design of morphological filter is implemented to process the gray scale dilation and the erosion in the same circuit and to choose the maximum and minimum value by a selector, resulting in their education of the complexity of the circuit and an architecture for parallel processing. The structure of morphological filter consists of the structuring-element block, the image data block, the control block, the ADD block, the MIN/MAX block, etc, and is designed on an one-chip for real time operation.

This paper presents a new design method of optimal continuous deadbeat controller by using second-order smoothing elements. The continuous deadbeat controller is made of a serial integral compensator and a local feedback compensator introduced into the state feedback loop. The decision method of the damping factor and the natural angular frequency of the smoothing element is described. A numerical example is given to show how well input-output characteristics are improved. Especially according to the variable input and disturbance, corresponding CDBC design method is suggested. By computer simulations, control inputs and system outputs are shown to have desirable property such as smoothness.

With slimmer, lighter and all-reflective imaging systems in high demand for consumer and military applications, coaxially folded optical image systems are widely considered because they can extend focal length and reduce track length. Most of these systems consist of multiple surfaces, and these surfaces are machined on one element or grouping processing on two elements. In this paper, we report and first experimentally demonstrate an all-aluminum all-reflective optical system which consists of two optical elements, with two high order aspherical surfaces in each element. The coaxially folded system is designed with Seidel aberration theory and advanced optimization with Zemax. The system is made of all-aluminum material processing by single point diamond turning (SPDT). On this basis, we completed the system integration and performed an imaging experiment. The final system has the advantages of short track length and long focal length and broad application prospects in the micro-unmanned aerial vehicle field.
