  • In this paper, we consider inner inheritance of parent objects to their child objects in SR DEVS. The inheritance process of function is implemented by the inside inheritance function when the inherited parent object is determined. In the inside inheritance, the integrity and fragment inheritance can be divided as th asset property. Also, the function process is requested when the inheritance selection in th inheritance is occurred to several assets. The child object can receive assets from the parent object through the determination method of selection function to the inside inheritance.

  • In planning an assembly system, choosing the proper assembly sequence is one of the most important decisions because it significantly affects the costs associated with the assembly process. This paper deals with the selection of assembly sequences in flexible assembly systems. The selection criterion is the minimization of makespan to complete all assembly products. This problem is formulated as a "modified FAS scheduling problem" (MFASSP) and its scheduling procedure is described. The experimental results show that the procedure is very efficient for both quality of solution and computation time.

  • This study proposes hybrid case-based reasoning and genetic algorithms model for customer classification. In this study, vertical and horizontal dimensions of the research data are reduced through integrated feature and instance selection process using genetic algorithms. We applied the proposed model to customer classification model which utilizes customers' demographic characteristics as inputs to predict their buying behavior for the specific product. Experimental results show that the proposed model may improve the classification accuracy and outperform various optimization models of typical CBR system.

  • Selection procedures are proposed for selecting the 'best' industrial process with the smallest fraction defective. For normally distributed industrial processes, this is equivalent to selecting in terms of coefficients of variation. For the case of known vairances, selection procedures by Bechhofer (1954), and Bechhofer and Turnball (1978) are appropriate. We treat this problem for the case of uknown variances with or without reference to a standard. The large sample solutions of design constants are tabulated and the performance of these approximate solutions are investigated.

  • In 2007 the Nuclear Energy Agency's Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations published Best Practice Guidelines for the use of CFD in Nuclear Reactor Safety. This paper provides an overview of the document' contents and highlights a few of its recommendations. The document covers the full extent of a CFD analysis from initial problem definition and selection of an appropriate tool for the analysis, through final documentation of results. It provides advice on selection of appropriate simulation software, mesh construction, and selection of physical models. In addition it contains extensive discussion of the verification and validation process that should accompany any high-quality CFD analysis.

  • This study reflects the concept of risk-based design to present a systematic design means and a method to adjust regulations and standards towards a more reliable direction within the current law. In order to enhance the early design concentration and level in the part of safety design, a new Advanced Safety Analysis Table (ASAT) was developed to provide information on the systematized safety design element from the early design phase. Furthermore, a guideline was put forth about the selection of a safety device according to process trouble, on the basis of the ASAT. To apply the proposed ASAT and the selection method of a safety device according to process troubles, the ASAT was executed for the PGC (Process Gas Compressor) of the NCC (Naphtha Cracking Center), and the result of selecting the safety device was analyzed according to process trouble.

  • This research focused on deciding optimal manufacturing WIP (Work-In-Process) limit for a small production system. Reducing WIP leads to stable capacity, better manufacturing flow and decrease inventory. WIP is the one of the important issue, since it can affect manufacturing area, like productivity and line efficiency and bottlenecks in manufacturing process. Several approaches implemented in this research. First, two strategies applied to decide WIP limit. One is roulette wheel selection and the other one is elite strategy. Second, for each strategy, JIT (Just In Time), CONWIP (Constant WIP), Gated Max WIP System and CWIPL (Critical WIP Loops) system applied to find a best material flow mechanism. Therefore, pull control system is preferred to control production line efficiently. In the production line, the WIP limit has been decided based on mathematical models or expert's decision. However, due to the complexity of the process or increase of the variables, it is difficult to obtain optimal WIP limit. To obtain an optimal WIP limit, GA applied in each material control system. When evaluating the performance of the result, fitness function is used by reflecting WIP parameter. Elite strategy showed better performance than roulette wheel selection when evaluating fitness value. Elite strategy reach to the optimal WIP limit faster than roulette wheel selection and generation time is short. For this reason, this study proposes a fast and reliable method for determining the WIP level by applying genetic algorithm to pull system based production process. This research showed that this method could be applied to a more complex production system.

  • Nowadays, several nontraditional machining(NTM) processes are widely used to machine a complex and accurate shape part of hard materials, such as titanium, ceramics, high strength temperature resistant and refractory materials which are difficult to machine and having high strength, hardness, toughness. Machining of these complex shapes in such materials by traditional machining processes are very difficult. The NTM processes is important in the areas of micro- and nano scale machining, where high accuracy and superior surface characteristics are required, which can only be achieved using these NTM processes. So, for effective selection of different NTM processes, careful decision making for a given NTM application is often necessary. An appropriate NTM process for a given material and shape condition is very difficult for the novice engineers. In this paper, an expert system based on an analytic network process(ANP) is suggested for a best selection of NTM process in a NTM application considering an prior interdependency effect among various factors.
