Changes in Pre-service Chemistry Teachers' Cognition of the Nature of Model in the Evaluation and Modification Process of Models Using Technology: Focusing on Boyle's Law (테크놀로지를 활용한 모델의 평가와 수정 과정에서 나타난 예비화학교사의 모델의 본성에 대한 인식 변화: 보일 법칙을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze changes in pre-service chemistry teachers' cognition of the nature of model in the evaluation and modification process of model using technology. Changes in cognition of the nature of model were analyzed focusing on the 'Abstraction' and 'Simplification' of the 'Representational aspect', 'Interpretation', 'Reasoning', 'Explanation' and 'Quantification' of the 'Explanatory aspect' that were deemed insufficient for pre-chemistry teachers in previous study. For this purpose, 19 third-year pre-service chemistry teachers at a teacher's college in Chungcheongbuk-do were asked to evaluate the model related to Boyle's law developed using technology, revise the model based on the evaluation results, and make a final evaluation. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that pre-service chemistry teachers' cognition of 'Simplification' of the 'Representational aspect' and 'Interpretation', 'Explanation', and 'Quantification' of the 'Explanatory aspect' changed positively through the evaluation and modification process of the model. Therefore, it was found that the evaluation and modification process of the model plays a key role in changing the cognition of the nature of model. However, there was little change in cognition of 'Abstraction' of the 'Representational aspect' and 'Reasoning' of the 'Explanatory aspect'. The cognition of these factors can be seen as more difficult to change than the cognition of other factors. To solve this problem, more sophisticated educational design for pre-service chemistry teachers is needed.

  • The low-voltage driven $SrTiO_3$ceramic varistor device was fabricated from $SrTiO_3$ powders prepared by co-precipitation method with $CuO-SiO_2$additives. Compare with conventional process, this process has advantages such as the reduction of the sintering temperature of $SrTiO_3$ ceramics by 100-$150^{\circ}C$ and the simplification of processing procedure. The non-linear coefficient value ($\alpha$) of the varistor showed 8.47 when it was sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 2 h with 5 wt% additives in reducing atmosphere of 5% $H_2/N_2$ mixed gas. The low-voltage driven $SrTiO_3$ceramic varistor was obtained which has a breakdown voltage as low as 7 V.

  • Quantity takeoff and cost estimates in Korea are carried out in practice without any clear standards or standards. Especially, quantity takeoff of Reinforcing bar and BoQ documentation process is very complex using 2D drawings. In this study, 10 case sites were analyzed for the status of inefficient quantity takeoff and how the statement was prepared. In order to solve this problem, this study presented a method for calculating the quantity of rebars through the ratio of concrete volume for schools, offices, and apartment buildings, and analyzed the accuracy of results. In the future, it is expected that the error range can be reduced by defining the factors affecting the results and calculating the correction value for them.

  • Although the multi-scale map database should be constructed for the web map services and location-based services, much part of generation process is based on the manual editing. In this study, the map generalization methodology for automatic construction of multi-scale database from the primary data is proposed. Moreover, the generalization methodology is applied to the real map data and the prototype of multi-scale map dataset is generated. Among the generalization operators, selection/elimination, simplification and amalgamation/aggregation is applied in organized manner. The algorithm and parameters for generalization is determined experimentally considering T$\ddot{o}$pfer's radical law, minimum drawable object of map and visual aspect. The target scale level is five(1:1,000, 1:5,000, 1:25,000, 1:100,000, 1:500,000) and for the target data, new address data and digital topographic map is used.

  • Recently, demand for the use of cadastral map is increasing in both public and private area. To use cadastral map in web or mobile environment, construction of the multi-representation database(MRDB) that is the compressed into multiple scale from the original map data is recommended. In this study, the map generalization methodology for the cadastral map by applying overlay with topographic map and polygon generalization technique is suggested. This process is composed of three steps, re-constructing the network data of topographic map, polygon merging of parcel lines according to network degree, and applying line simplification techniques. Proposed methodologies are applied to the cadastral map in Suwon area. The result map was generalized into 1:5,000, 1:20,000, 1:100,000 scale, and data compression ratio was shown in 15% 8% 1% level respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a blind watermarking algorithm of 3d mesh model using spherical parameterization. Spherical parameterization is a useful method which is applicable to 3D data processing. Especially, orthogonal coordinate can not analyse the feature of the vertex coordination of the 3D mesh model, but this is possible to analyse and process. In this paper, the centroid center of the 3D model was set to the origin of the spherical coordinate, the orthogonal coordinate system was transformed to the spherical coordinate system, and then the spherical parameterization was applied. The watermark was embedded via addition/modification of the vertex after the feature analysis of the geometrical information and topological information. This algorithm is robust against to the typical geometrical attacks such as translation, scaling and rotation. It is also robust to the mesh reordering, file format change, mesh simplification, and smoothing. In this case, the this algorithm can extract the watermark information about $90{\sim}98%$ from the attacked model. This means it can be applicable to the game, virtual reality and rapid prototyping fields.

  • Since the IMF crisis, the competition among banks in Korea has fiercely intensified. To survive in the severe competition, several leading banks including Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) have recently developed their own proprietary systems called 'the Next-Generation Systems(NGS).' This case study was to answer several important issues as follows; 1); the reason why a bank make huge investment in the IT infrastructure; 2) the development methodology of the NGS; 3) the new architecture of the NGS; 4) the governance structure of the NGS investment; and 5) the effects of the NGS on the development of new products. To achieve such goals, a systematic tandem interview method and many archival reports from IBK were utilized. The conclusions are summarized as follows: First, the NGS has contributed to the integration and simplification of business processes. Second, new products as demanded in the market can be developed much faster through the NGS. Third, the change management of IT infrastructure is critically important. Fourth, the systems architecture can be different according to the IT governance. Fifth, the alignment of the NGS and business processes is most important to obtain the organizational goals.

A Study of Stone Sculptures of Jagneung and Sareung - The Reinstatement and Stone Sculpture Simplification - (장릉(莊陵)과 사릉(思陵)의 석물 연구 - 추봉과 석물 간소화를 중심으로 -)

  • Jangneung (the Royal Tomb of King Danjong) and Sareung (the Royal Tomb of Queen Jeongsun) are simple in their design and layout. Not only are the sizes of the stone statues small, but stone soldiers are not installed at all despite the fact that Danjong at one point served as the King of Joseon. Moreover, only a pair of seoksu (stone animal) is installed for each Tomb. These royal tombs were originally made as common tombs and later upgraded as Royal Tombs when Danjong's royal status was reinstated posthumously in 1698. Thus, in comparison to royal tombs in general, the scale of these tombs is by far modest. For this paper, archival records and other literature for the burial upgrade process and the stone sculptures are examined; also, the stone sculptures have been examined and measured on-site, and they have been compared and analyzed based on the data thus obtained. Furthermore, this paper traces the historical context of the period in which the simplification of the stone sculptures took place for Jangneung and Sareung. The paper argues that the cause of the modest scale lies not so much in the fact that King Danjong had been dethroned as a commoner, but in the cataclysmic famine and epidemic that swept the country during the time when the two royal tombs were upgraded as such.

  • Laser cladding process accompanies phase transformations from melting (on heating) through solidifying (on cooling) at the same time within a small material volume and to final solid phase. The phase transformations are not reversible, but an irreversible thermodynamic process; they accompany either absorption or release of thermal energy (referred to latent heat) during transformation. Yet, most analyses on materials processed by laser as a heat source have been performed on models of neglecting the latent heat in the process and those did not Justify the simplification. With literatures on the laser material process, we have not place an answer to how little the assumption affects on analyses. This led us to our current study: the effects of latent heat on thermo-mechanical analysis. To this end, we developed a fairly accurate program accommodating an algorithm for enforcing the latent heat whenever necessary and ran it combining with ABAQUS$^{TM}$. The simulation techniques we used in this study were verified by directly comparing our prediction with experimental publications elsewhere; our numerical results agreed accurately with the experiments. On the effects of the latent heat, we performed two alternatives about considering the latent heat in analysis, and compared each other. As a result, we found that more accurate conclusions might come out when considering the latent heat in process analyses.s.

  • Many algorithms to find a minimum cost design of water distribution network (WDN) have been developed during the last decades. Most of them have tried to optimize cost only while satisfying other constraining conditions. For this, a certain degree of simplification is required in their calculation process which inevitably limits the real application of the algorithms, especially, to large networks. In this paper, an optimum design method using the Genetic Algorithms (GA) is developed which is designed to increase the applicability, especially for the real world large WDN. The increased to applicability is due to the inherent characteristics of GA consisting of selection, reproduction, crossover and mutation. Just for illustration, the GA method is applied to find an optimal solution of the New York City water supply tunnel. For the calculation, the parameter of population size and generation number is fixed to 100 and the probability of crossover is 0.7, the probability of mutation is 0.01. The yielded optimal design is found to be superior to the least cost design obtained from the Linear Program method by $4.276 million.
