Measurements and comparisons of PDDs using ion chamber and fiber-optic dosimeter irradiated by high energy photon beam (고 에너지 X-선 조사에 의한 광섬유 방사선량계와 이온 전리함의 심부선량 백분율 측정 및 비교)

  • In this study, we have fabricated a fiber-optic dosimeter using an organic scintillator and a plastic optical fiber for measuring percentage depth dose with high energy X-ray beam. The scintillating light generated in organic sensor probe embedded in a solid water are guided by 20 m plastic optical fiber to the light-measuring device such as a photodiode- amplifier system. Using a fiber-optic dosimeter and an ion chamber, percentage depth dose curves are measured with 6 and 15 MV energies of X-ray beam whose field sizes are $2\;cm\;{\times}\;2\;cm$ and $10\;cm\;{\times}\;10\;cm$.

Properties of ZnO:Al films on polymer substrates by low temperature process

  • Transparent electrode ZnO:Al(AZO)films were deposited on a PES (polyethersulfone) polymer substrate for thin film solar cells applications. A PES substrate with a thickness of 0.2mm and transmittance > 90% in the visible range was used because it is light weight and can deform easily. AZO thin films were prepared at a fixed DC power, $PO_2\;=\;P(O_2)/[P(O_2)\;+\;P(Ar)]$, and various substrate temperatures. The properties of AZO thin films were examined by X-ray diffraction, UV/VIS spectroscopy, four-point probe, Hall measurements, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The lowest resistivity of all the films was $4.493\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;[\Omega-cm]$ and the transmittance was > 80% in the visible range.

  • The carbon-coated Si/Cu powder has been prepared by mechanical ball milling and hydrocarbon gas decomposition methods. The phase of Si/Cu powder was analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), dispersive Raman spectroscopy, electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The carbon-coated Si/Cu powders were used as anode active material for lithium-ion batteries. Their electrochemical properties were investigated by charge/discharge test using commercial LiCo$O_2$ cathode and lithium foil electrode, respectively. The surface phase of Si/Cu powders consisted of carbon phase like the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with a spacing layer of 0.35 nm. The carbon-coated Si/Cu/graphite composite anode exhibited a higher capacity than commercial graphite anode. However, the cyclic efficiency and the capacity retention of the composite anode were lower compared with graphite anode as cycling proceeds. This effect may be attributed to some mass limitations in LiCo$O_2$ cathode materials during the cycling.

Chromosome Analysis Using GISH and FISH of Interspecific Hybrids between Allium cepa L. and A. fistulosum L. (GISH와 FISH를 이용한 양파와 파간 종간교잡계통의 염색체 분석)

  • Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) were used for chromosome analysis of hybrids (2n=16) between onion (Allium cepa L., 2n=2X=16) and welsh onion (A. fistulosum L., 2n=2X=16). 5S rDNA, 45S rDNA, and tandemly repeated DNA (TSD) sequence were used as probes for FISH analysis. A. fistulosum specific DNA probe of telomeric repeats and A. fistulosum DNA were used for GISH analysis. In the analysis of meiotic chromosome GISH revealed that hybrids have 7 bivalants and 2 univalents chromosome and 2 univalents were derived from A. fistulosum chromosomes. In somatic chromosomes of hybrid each 8 chromosomes were derived from A. cepa and A. fistulosum, respectively. FISH signal of 45S rDNA probe in A. fistulosum was detected at secondary constriction of chromosomes, while FISH signal in A. cepa was observed in both secondary constriction and telomere of chromosomes. TDS signals in A. fistulosum chromosomes were detected at all subtelomeric of 8 chromosomes and also in 2 pericentromeric of the chromosomes, whereas TDS signals in A. cepa were observed only in subtelomeric in all chromosomes. The pattern of TDS signal in hybrid chromosomes was similar to those of A. fistulosum chromosomes.

Flow Control by Piezoceramic Actuator in a flat plate (평판에서 압전 세라믹 액추에이터에 의한 유동제어)

  • An actuator using piezoceramic material was designed in order to perform a flow control for flat plate flow. Boundary layer measurements were carried out to explore the flow disturbances by the designed actuator that was activated at low excitation frequency(15Hz). The mean velocity and fluctuation in the boundary layers were measured at $x/{\delta}^*=31.9$ downstream from the actuator tip by a one-dimensional hot-wire probe(55P14). Results reveal that low- and high-velocity regions were observed in the vicinity of the actuator center and in the outer area of the actuator respectively, and the formation of counter-rotating streamwise vortices was predicted. The fluctuations were persistently found in the outer part of the actuator and an inflection point in the spanwise gradient of the streamwise velocity was observed. Boundary layer instability was amplified at both the actuator excitation frequency and the T-S wave frequency when the actuator was excited at low frequency.

  • In this paper, the plasma doping is performed on p-type wafers using $PH_3$ gas(10 %) diluted with He gas(90 %). The wafer is placed in the plasma generated with 200 W and a negative DC bias (1 kV) is applied to the substrate for 60 sec under no substrate heating. the flow rate of the diluted $PH_3$ gas and the process pressure are 100 sccm and 10 mTorr, respectively. In order to diffuse and activate the dopant, annealing process such as rapid thermal annealing (RTA) is performed. RTA process is performed either in $N_2$, $O_2$ or $O_2+N_2$ ambient at $900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ for 10 sec. The sheet resistance is measured using four point probe. The shallow n+/p doping profiles are investigated using secondary ion mass spectromtry (SIMS). The analysis of crystalline defect is also done using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DXRD).

  • ZnO:Al transparent conductive films for solar cells were deposited on the glass substrates at room temperature by facing target sputtering (FTS) method. The sputtering targets were 100 mm diameter disks of 2w.t..%. AZO and Zn metal. ZnO:Al thin films were deposited as a function film thickness. A base pressure was $2{\times}10^{-6}$torr, and a working pressure was 1mTorr. The properties of thin films on the structural, electrical and optical properties of the deposited films were investigated using a four-point probe (Chang-min), an X-ray diffraction (Rigaku), a Hall Effect measurement (Ecopia), an UV/VIS spectrometer (HP) and a $\alpha$-step (Tencor). The lowest resistivity of film was $5.67{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}-cm]$ at 500nm. The average transmittance of over 80% was seen in the visible range.

  • In this work, we carried out the variation of surface characteristics of organic polymer films by O2 plasma. The plasma diagnostics were performed by DLP(Double Langmuir Probe) and OES(Optical Emission Spectroscopy) measurements. Moreover, variation of surface characteristics were measured by AFM(Atomic Force Microscope), XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), and contact angle goniometer. It was found that the etch rate of organic films was controlled by O radicals flux and dc bias voltage. And O radical density and dc bias voltage increased with increasing bias power. So, it was changed surface energy as a function of surface roughness and O/C ratio in organic films.

Growth and Characterization of Vertically Aligned ZnO nanowires with different Surface morphology

  • Vertically aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) with different surface morphology were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on sapphire substrate. The films thus prepared were characterized by measuring X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. To study the effect of surface morphology on wettability, the contact angle (CA) of water was measured. It was demonstrated that the CA of the deposited ZnO NRs varied between $104^{\circ}$ and $135^{\circ}$ depending upon the surface morphology. Variable temperature photoluminescence (PL) have employed to probe the exciton recombination in high density and vertically aligned ZnO Nanorod arrays. The low-temperature PL characterizes the dominant near-band-edge excitonic emissions from such nanorod arrays.

Aerosol Deposition and Its Potential Use for Bioactive Ceramic Coatings

  • Aerosol Deposition (AD) is anovel way to fabricate bioactive ceramic coatings in biomedical implants and prostheses applications. In the present work, silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings on commercially pure titanium were prepared by aerosol deposition using Si-HA powders. The incorporation of silicon in the HA lattice is known to improve the bioactivity of the HA, makingsilicon-substitute HA an attractive alternative to pure HA in biomedical applications. Si-HA powders with the chemical formula $Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6-x(SiO_4)x(OH)_2-x$, having silicon contents up to x=0.5 (1.4 wt%), were synthesized by solid-state reaction of $Ca_2P_2O_7$, $CaCO_3$, and $SiO_2$. The Si-HA powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The corresponding coatings were also analyzed by XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA). The results revealed that a single-phase Si-HA was obtained without any secondary phases such as $\alpha$- or $\beta$-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) for both the powders and the coatings.The Si-HA coating was about $5\;{\mu}m$ thick, had a densemicrostructure with no cracks or pores. In addition, the proliferation and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of MC3T3-E1 preosteoblast cells grown on the Si-HA coatings were significantly higher than those on the bare Ti and pure HA coating. These results revealed the stimulatory effects induced by siliconsubstitution on the cellular response to the HA coating.
