  • We consider $M_1,M_2/M/1$ retrial queues with two classes of customers in which the service rates depend on the total number or the customers served since the beginning of the current busy period. In the case that arriving customers are bloced due to the channel being busy, the class 1 customers are queued in the priority group and are served as soon as the channel is free, whereas the class 2 customers enter the retrical group in order to try service again after a random amount of time. For the first $N(N \geq 1)$ exceptional services model which is a special case of our model, we derive the joint generating function of the numbers of customers in the two groups. When N = 1 i.e., the first exceptional service model, we obtain the joint generating function explicitly and if the arrival rate of class 2 customers is 0, we show that the results for our model coincide with known results for the M/M/1 queues with smart machine.

  • It was already proved that ATM has stability and flexibility of service applications, but because of the various characteristics of traffic and the QoS on user demandcaused by them, there are so many researches for traffic control method. In this paper, in order to give the more similar properties of the real traffic to the existing input traffic source, dividing them into four classes with different characteristics, and We proposed the integrated dynamic priority method, IDP which has advantages of the DMLT and the DQLT for time dynamic priority. Thus, it makes input queues about each of traffic classes and thresholds, and then use modified DMLT and DQLT methods. It has goal that proposed method to get more reliability and stability with advantage low loss of the DMLT, low delay of DQLT.

  • IEEE 802.15.4 reserves transmission time to support real-time transport by sending GTS request packets to the PAN coordinator in advance. This paper introduces GTS-FAT technique to reduce the reservation time by giving a higher sending priority to GTS request packets than data packets. Differently from the conventional scheme where these two kinds of packets share a single transmission queue, GTS-FAT scheme allocates two queues with two different contention window sizes like IEEE 802.11e. This paper also proposes an analytical GTS delay model by combining the two legacy models for 802.15.4 and 802.11e to accurately predict the GTS-FAT delay over a given network topology. Our analysis shows that GTS-FAT reduces GTS service delay by up to 50% at the expense of the data delay by only up to 6.1% when GTS request packets four times outnumber data packets.

  • In this paper, we consider multiple-class queueing systems in which the server starts a set-up as soon as the number of customers in the "start-up class" reaches threshold N. After the set-up the server starts his service. We obtain the Laplace-Stieltjes transform and the mean of the waiting times of each class of customers for FCFS and non-preemptive priority disciplines.

  • An ATM switch is the basic component of an ATM network, and its functioning is to switch incoming cells arriving at an input port to the output port associated with an appropriate virtual path. In case of an ATM switch with buffer sharing scheme, the performance analysis is very difficult due to the interactions between the address queues. In this paper, the influences of the degree of traffic burstiness and some traffic routing properties are investigated by using the simulation. Also, some cell access strategies including priority access and cell dropping are compared in terms of cell loss probability.

  • In this paper, we propose a new dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for multimedia services over Ethernet PONs (passive optical networks). The proposed algorithm is composed of a low-level scheduler in the optical network unit (ONU) and a high-level scheduler in the optical line terminal (OLT). The hierarchical DBA algorithm can provide expansibility and efficient resource allocation in an Ethernet PON system in which the packet scheduler is separated from the queues. In the proposed DBA algorithm, the OLT allocates bandwidth to the ONUs in proportion to the weight associated with their class and queue length, while the ONU preferentially allocates its bandwidth to queues with a static priority order. The proposed algorithm provides an efficient resource utilization by reducing the unused remaining bandwidth caused by the variable length of the packets. We also define the service classes and present control message formats conforming to the multi-point control protocol (MPCP) over an Ethernet PON. In order to evaluate the performance, we designed an Ethernet PON system on the basis of IEEE 802.3ah "Ethernet in the first mile" (EFM) using OPNET and carried out simulations. The results are analyzed in terms of the channel utilization, queuing delay, and ratio of the unused remaining bandwidth.

  • Wireless LAN Voice over IP(VoIP) equipment needs Quality-of-Service(QoS) with priority for processing real-time traffic. This paper shows transmit function implementation of wireless LAN(WLANs) media access control(MAC) support VoIP, and it has an advantage of guarantee of QoS and is adaptable to VoIP or mobile wireless equipment. The IEEE 802.11e standard in progress has four queues according to four access categories(AC) for transmit and the MAC transmits the data based on EDCA. The value of AC is from AC0 to AC3 and AC3 has the highest priority. The transmit method implemented at this paper ensure QoS using one transmit FIFO in hardware since real-time traffic data and non real-time traffic data has the different priority. The device driver classifies real-time data and non real-time data and transmit data to hardware with information about data type. The hardware conducts shorter backoff and selects faster AIFS slot for real-time data than it for non real-time data. Therefor It make give the real-time traffic data faster channel access chance than non real-time data and enhances QoS.

  • In this paper, we designed the bandwidth allocation scheme with priority consideration for upstream channel access of EthernetPON. The objective of our scheme is to control the multi services in more effective way according to their CoS(Class of Service) or QoS(Quality of Service). The designed scheme considers transmission priority in the both side of OLT and ONU. In the OLT's view, the Two-step scheduling algorithm is applied with which we can support multiple bandwidth allocation policies simultaneously, i.e. SBA for the time-sensitive, constant rate transmission services and DBA for the best-effort services. This Two-step scheduling algorithm reduces the scheduling complexity by separating the process of transmission start time decision from the process of grant generation. In the ONU's view, the proposed scheme controls 8 priority queues of the 802.1d recommended 8 service classes. Higher priority queue is serviced in prior during the allowed GATE time from OLT. The OPNET modeling and simulation result compares the performance of each bandwidth allocation policy with SBA or DBA only approach.

  • This paper presents a data structure that implements a mergeable double-ended priority queue ; namely, an improved relaxed min-max-pair heap. It suggests a sequential algorithm to merge priority queues organized in two relaxed min-max heaps : kheap and nheap of sizes k and n, respecrively. This new data sturuture eliminates the blossomed tree and the lazying method used to merge the relaxed min-max heaps in [8]. As a result, the suggested method in this paper requires the time complexity of O(log(log(n/k))*log(k)) and the space complexity of O(n+), assuming that $k{\leq}{\lfloor}log(size(nheap)){\rfloor}$ are in two heaps of different sizes.

  • Proirity queues(PQ) can be used in applications such as scheduling or sorting. The data structures for PQ can be constructed with or without pointers. The implicit representation without pointers uses less memory space than pointer-based representation. It if shown that a 2-heap, a traditional Implicit PQ based on a binary tree, is slower than an f-heap based on a 8-ary tree. This is because 8-heap utilizes cache memory more efficiently This paper presents a novel fast implicit heap called 8-heap* which is easier to implement. Experimental results show that the 8-heap* is faster than 8-heap as well as 2-heap.
