FEM requires the stress-strain relationship equations for numerical analyses. However, most formulations for the stress-strain relationship published up to the present are not satisfactory enough to properly express all the levels from the small strain to the peak. Tatsuoka and Shibuya (1991) suggested a new single formulation applicable not only to a wide range of geo-materials from soft clay to soft rock, but also to a wide range of strain levels from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$. The plain strain compression test is carried out to seven samples of research standard sand specimens and two samples of glass beads, which have been used at world-renowned research institutes. In this study, strains of the maximum principal stress (${\sigma}_1$) and the minimum principal stress (${\sigma}_3$) were thoroughly measured from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$, and the result, applied to Tatsuoka and Shibuya's new formulation, coincided closely with the measured data of the stress-strain relationship from the small strain to the peak.
This study evaluated the localized stress condition of the real corroded deck surface of an orthotropic steel bridge because severe corrosion damage on the deck surface and fatigue cracking were reported. Thus, a three-dimensional finite element (FE) analysis model was created based on measurements of the corroded orthotropic steel deck surface to examine the stress level dependence on the corrosion condition. Based on the FE analysis results, it could be confirmed that a high stress concentration and irregular stress distribution can develop on the deck surface. The stress level was also increased by approximately 1.3-1.5 times as a result of the irregular corroded surface. It was concluded that this stress concentration could increase the possibility of fatigue cracking in the deck surface because of the surface roughness of the orthotropic steel bridge deck.

The aim of this study is to develop the methodology which enables to identify the mechanical properties of element such as stress intensity factor by using the AE parameters. Considering the multivariate and nonlinear properties of AE parameters such as ringdown count, rise time, energy, event duration and peak amplitude from fatigue cracks of machine element the principal component regression(PCR) and artificial neural network(ANN) models for the estimation of stress intensity factor were developed and validated. The AE parameters were found to be very significant to estimate the stress intensity factor. Since the statistical values including correlation coefficients, standard mr of calibration, standard error of prediction and bias were stable, the PCR and ANN models for stress intensity factor were very robust. The performance of ANN model for unknown data of stress intensity factor was better than that of PCR model.

It is required more precise analysis for practical load because of complexities and varieties of vehicle structure. To establish the numerical model, many researchers have been developed designing tools for linking F.E. Analysis results and experimental results. There studies have generally focused on each experimental method or analytical method separately. There are few studies based on both methods. This paper conceives new procedure for the determination of the load direction and magnitude applied on mechanical structures. New procedure is the combination of the analytical and empirical method with analyzed strain by F.E. Analysis under unit load and with measured principal stress by strain gages under driving load, respectively. In this paper, we theorize the procedure of practical load determination and make the validity and the practicality of the procedure with the application to T-shape jointed structure. F.E. Analysis is conducted to get the principal stress on arbitrary points in the F.E. model of T-shape joint under unit load. Then experiment is carried out to get the principal stress on the same points of F.E. model. To demonstrate the actual driving condition, the load conditions are bending and torsion. From these two data sets, the magnitude, the direction and the position of load can be obtained. Theory and practice do not always coincide; since there are some errors such as ill-poseness, measuring error and modeling error in experimental data, we examine the proper method of error minimization.
A series of consolidated-undrained cubical triaxial tests was performed to investigate the three- dimensional strength characteristics of anisotropic overconsolidated clay. All specimens sampled in field were loaded under conditions of principal stress directions fixed and aligned with the directions during sampling. A sufficient number of tests It was performed to deter.mine the three- dimensional failure surface in the octahedral plane. The adjusted effective friction angles obtained by the stress state projected on the same octahedral plane did not show anisotropy, while the measured effective friction angles showed considerally difference according to the axes of speccimens. Therefore, Lade failure criterion proposed fort isotropic materials could be also used practically for anisotropic overconsolidated clay. The direction of the plastic strain increment wrectors superimposed on the principal stress space was nearly perpendicular to the traces of the failure surface in the octahedral plane.
This paper is concerned with modeling of a ductile fracture criterion for sheet metal considering anisotropy to predict the sudden fracture of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets during complicated forming processes. The Lou−Huh ductile fracture criterion is modified using the Hill’s 48 anisotropic plastic potential instead of the von Mises isotropic plastic potential to take account of the influence of anisotropy on the equivalent plastic strain at the onset of fracture. To determine the coefficients of the model proposed, a two dimensional digital image correlation (2D-DIC) method is utilized to measure the strain histories on the surface of three different types of specimens during deformation. For the derivation of an anisotropic ductile fracture model, principal stresses (𝜎1,𝜎2, 𝜎3) are expressed in terms of the stress triaxiality, the Lode parameter, and the equivalent stress (𝜂𝐻, 𝐿,) based on the Hill’s 48 anisotropic plastic potential. The proposed anisotropic ductile fracture criterion was quantitatively evaluated according to various directions of the maximum principal stress. Fracture forming limit diagrams were also constructed to evaluate the forming limit in sheet metal forming of AHSS sheets over a wide range of loading conditions.

Recently, global warming has become severe, and regulation is established for carbon savings each field. its regulation is applied to various fields using IC engine such as automobile, ship, agricultural machine. Therefore engine block applied Common Rail Direct Injection(CRDI) technology, that carry out thermal-structure analysis to examine design. The thermal load about 900℃ by explosion was applied in cylinder. And pressure about 9 MPa(90 Bar) was applied to structure analysis. As a result, it was the highest at 185.99℃ at the top of cylinder. Static-structure analysis applied thermal load, that was shown maximum equivalent stress at 142.59 Mpa and Maximum principal stress 145.03 MPa, Minimum principal stress -149 MPa. When compare analysis results to material property, it design is safety structurally.
The Purpose of this study was to investigate material differences in stress transmission among various artificial teeth and denture base materials. For this study, a two-dimensional finite element model and a two-dimensional photoelastic model of a mandible with complete denture were made. A resin tooth and a porcelain tooth were used as artificial teeth, and a resin base, a metal lined base, and a soft-liner lined base were used as denture bases. An occlusal load was applied and principal stresses generated in the supporting tissues were compared. To test the impact stress transmission, strain gauge attached to the denture base specimens made of the different materials were made in thick and thin groups. Voltage outputs from hitting the specimen with a steel ball were compared. The results were as follows : 1. In FEM, increasing the mucosal thickness reduced the maximum principal stresses in the supporting tissues, but altering the tooth materials and the base materials induced no difference in the stresses. 2. In photoelastic model study, no difference in fringe order among the specimens were observed, but the thick mucosa group and the soft-liner lined group revealed a more uniform distribution of the load. 3. In strain measuring, the impact force transmission was highest in the soft-liner lined group, and was the lowest in the metal lined group(p<0.01). 4. In the thin group using the resin base, the porcelain tooth showed higher impact stress transmission than the resin tooth(p<0.01), but no difference was observed between them in the thick group. In the soft-liner lined group, the porcelain tooth showed higher impact stress transmission than the resin tooth(p<0.01), but no difference was observed between them in the metal lined group. 5. The thick group showed lower impact stress transmission than the thin group(p<0.01).
Reynolds averaged Wavier-Stokes simulations based on the Reynolds stress model was performed to investigated the effect of inlet flow angle on the distributions of the Reynolds stress tensor inside tip leakage vortex of a linear compressor cascade. Two different inlet flow angles ${\beta}=29.3^{\circ}$(design condition) and $36.5^{\circ}$(off-design condition) were considered. Stress tensor analysis, which transforms the Reynolds stress into the principal direction, was applied to show an anisotropy of the normal stresses. Whereas the anisotropy was highest in the region where the tip leakage vortex collides the suction side of the blade and tip leakage flow enters between blade tip of the pressure side and the endwall, it had the lowest value at the center of tip leakage vortex. It was also found that the magnitude of maximum shear stress at design condition was greater than that of off-design condition.

Porous walkway blocks are constructed for the purpose already, but reserved water is easily consumed due to the bigger permeability than necessary. Furthermore, porous structure reduces the strength of blocks, which resulting cracking and settlements in walkways. In this study, we suggested a solution for given problems by determination for the location of minimum principal stress in walkway blocks against moving foot loads in order to design and verifying the determined location of minimum principal stress. An optimum design with a verification example for determined location of minimum principal stress have been presented in a two dimensional Block member on elastic foundation for pedestrian walkway for reserving water inside. The minimum value for sum of shear forces is found when ${\times}1$ is 58.58 mm(30% of total span, 200mm), while the minimum deformation is located at ${\times}2=80mm$(70% of total span, 200 mm). In a modified model, When moving boundary condition(walkway foot loads) is located at ${\times}1$(=0 mm), the location of minimum principal stresses is found at 168 mm( 84% of span, 200 mm), in which the stress concentration due to the foot load is modeled as two layers of distributed loads(reactions of foundation modeled as springs). Consequently, zero deformed reservoirs for rainwater on the neutral axis (${\times}2=167mm$) has been determined in the modified model with three dimensional FEM analysis verifications.
