$6mm^t$조선용 프라이머 코팅강판의 $CO_2$레이저 용접성( I ) - 프라이머 코팅조건과 갭 간극의 영향 - (The Weldability of $6mm^t$ Primer-coated Steel for Shipbuilding by $CO_2$ Laser( I ) - Effects of Primer Coating Condition and Gap Clearance -)

  • Recently the application of laser welding technology has been considered to shipbuilding structure. However, when this technology is applied to primer coated steel, good quality weld beads are not easily obtained. Because the primer-coated layer caused the spatter, humping bead and porosity which are main part of the welding defect attributed to the powerful vaporizing pressure of zinc. So we performed experiment with objectives of understanding spatter and porosity formation mechanism and producing sound weld beads in 6mmt primer coated steels by a $CO_2$ CW laser. The effects of welding parameters; defocused distance, welding speed, coated thickness and coated position; were investigated in the bead shape and penetration depth on bead and lap welding. Alternative idea was suggested to suspend the welding defect by giving a reasonable gap clearance for primer coated thickness. The zinc of primer has a boiling point that is lower than melting point of steel. Zinc vapor builds up at the interface between the two sheets and this tends to deteriorate the quality of the weld by ejecting weld material from lap position or leaving porosity. Significant effects of primer coated position was lap side rather than surface. Therefore introducing a small gap clearance in the lap position, the zinc vapor could escape through it and sound weld beads can be acquired. In conclusion, formation and suspension mechanism of the welding defects was suggested by controling the factors.

This study has suggested an alternative idea by examining of weld-defect formation mechanism.   • It has been reported that good quality weld beads are not easily obtained during the $CO_2$ CW laser welding of primer coated plate. However, by introducing a small gap clearance in the lap position, the zinc vapor can escape through it and sound weld beads can be acquired. Therefore, this study examines for keyhole behavior by observing the laser-induced plasma and investigates the relation between keyhole behavior and formation of weld defect. Laser-induced plasma has accompanied with the vaporizing pressure of zinc ejecting from keyhole to surface of primer coated plate. This dynamic behavior of plasma was very unstable and this instability was closely related to the unstable motion of keyhole during laser welding. As a result of observing the composition of porosity, much of Zn element was found from inner surface of porosity. But Zn was not found from the dimple structure fractured at the weld metal. By analyzing of vaporizing element in laser welding, a component ratio of Zn was decreased by introducing a small gap clearance. Therefore we can prove that the major cause of porosity is the vaporization of primer in lap position. Mechanism of porosity-formation is that the primer vaporized from the lap position accelerates dynamic behavior of the key hole and the bubble separated from the key hole is trapped in the solidification boundary and romaines as porosity.

  • 내부식성이 강화된 새로운 방청안료를 개발하기 위한 연구의 일환으로, 본 연구에서는 높은 내부식성을 제공하는 아연 및 세륨 이온 교환된 제올라이트를 도입하였다. 그리고 이온교환 제올라이트를 이용하여 프라이머 도료 제조 및 도장을 수행한 후, 그것의 방식성능을 측정하였다. 도장을 위한 금속 기재는 아연도금(galvanized, GI) 강판이었고, 도장된 강판의 방식성능은 electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)와 scanning vibrating electrode technique(SVET)으로 측정되었다. EIS 및 절단면의 내부식성을 확인하기 위한 SVET 측정으로부터 세륨이온 교환된 제올라이트가 가장 높은 효율을 제시하였고, 아연 및 세륨 이온 교환된 제올라이트의 경우 GI 강판에 대하여 cathodic 부식 방지제로 기여함을 확인할 수 있었다.

The Effect of $Bi(OH)_3$ on Corrosion-Resistant Properties of Automotive Epoxy Primers

  • In this study, we evaluated anti-corrosion properties of both commercial unleaded and lead epoxy primer for automotive substrate before applying to actual painting lines by salt spray test, and cyclic corrosion test, potentiodynamic test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The difference in the corrosion resistance between automotive epoxy primers contained $Bi(OH)_{3}$ and leaded one was investigated. And it was also discussed the effect of zinc phosphate pretreatment to the epoxy primers. The specimen coated epoxy primer contained $Bi(OH)_{3}$ showed 0.5 V higher corrosion potential than that of bare steel. The result of salt spray test did not indicate remarkable difference of corrosion resistance in all specimens above $10{\mu}m$ thickness up to 1200 hours. In the cyclic corrosion test, epoxy primers contained $Bi(OH)_{3}$ on phosphated substrate performed good corrosion properties until 800 hours. The epoxy primer contained $Bi(OH)_{3}$ performed the equivalent corrosion resistance as leaded coating on phosphated steel, but slightly inferior to that of leaded on bare steel. These results show that the pre-treatment of zinc phosphate is effective as well as pigment changing in performing anti-corrosion properties in automotive bodies.

Effects of Weld Fume on the Corrosion Protection of Epoxy Coated on Carbon Steel

  • Welding was widely used in shipbuilding industries as a joining method. In present study, the effects of welding fume contaminated on steel surface on corrosion protection were examined by water ballast simulation test and condensation chamber test. Pull-off adhesion test, blistering test and cathodic disbondment test were carried out to evaluate the effects of residual welding fume. Consequently, it was clearly indicated that the residual welding fume didn't affect the corrosion protection of epoxy coated on steel when surface was treated by light sweep blasting to heavy sweep blasting which was applied in this study.

  • 아연코팅강판의 레이저 용접시 발생하는 용접결함은 이미 널리 알려진 이슈이다. 그러나 대부분의 연구가 박판을 중심으로 이루어지고 있어서, 후판을 중심으로 한 조선산업에서의 아연코팅 강판의 연구는 매우 미진한 실정이다. 이중 후판 아연코팅강판의 결함검출연구는 그 연구가 거의 전무한 실정으로, 본 연구에서는 후판 아연코팅강판의 레이저 겹치기용접시의 결함검출을 중심으로 실험을 실시하였다. 실험은 Fig. 1에서와 같이 광신호와 음향신호의 RMS를 통하여 raw signal에서 잘 나타나지 않았던 신호의 패턴을 확인함으로써 실제 신호와 비드와를 대응을 가능하게 하였다. 또한 결함 발생시의 RMS값을 건전한 상태와 비교분석하여 실제 결함검출의 가능성도 확인할 수 있었다.
