  • Because of its unique characteristics, the construction industry tends to be affected by economic environment more than any other industries. The domestic construction industry was forced to change its management pattern and system when it went through the foreign currency crisis, and since then, the construction industry has been growing in terms of quality over last 10 years, breaking from the quantitative performance-oriented growth in the past. The study was intended to integrate the financial data of the companies during the period before and after the foreign currency crisis so as to analyze the effect of environmental changes on management performance of the companies. It was aimed at evaluating the changes to the stability, profitability and the growth potential, and collecting the data on variation of the market scale, price of resources such as material and labor and the financial environment, thereby analyzing the correlation with the management performance. The study, to deal with the difficulties which are anticipated, like the foreign currency crisis experienced in the past, was also intended to identify the correlation between the economic conditions and the performance of the construction companies, using the experimental data in the past.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the change of important clothing evaluative criteria according to the clothing buying process and to bulid the flow chart of clothing buying process and clothing evaluative criteria. The study is carried out in two ways, they are, literature study and empirical survey. The results are as following; 1. the change of the important clothing evaluative criteria according to the clothing buying process is found out. 2.   • The climate change due to the increased consumption with fossil fuel and rise of the oil price have been serious global issues. Automobile industry consumes 30% of the oil every year and causes air pollution and global warming by the exhaust emissions and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$). The demand of two-wheeled vehicle increases every year due to the parking and traffic problem caused by the increased automobiles in the urban area. Approximately 50,000,000 two-wheeled vehicles were produced in 2008. The development and sales of the hybrid two-wheeled vehicle industry become active due to its increased market demands. In this paper, the change of the motor and battery efficiency, driving distance, hill climbing ability with the change of the motor capacity was analyzed. Simulation of the peculiarities in urban driving schedule(World-wide Motorcycle Test Cycle(WMTC), Manhattan driving schedule), constant speed(10 km/h, 35 km/h) of small electronic two-wheeled vehicle was also carried out. Through the simulation result, appropriate capacities of the motor and battery for urban driving was acquired.

The neo-classical macro general equilibrium theory, which has been reconstructed subsequent to Keyneses critism is treated the neo-classical macro-general equilibrium theory which inherits the classical theories of labour market and the aggregate production function, on demand side, it introduce the Keyneses macro-general equilibrium theory, which function through flexible movement of prices, wage and interest. Nowadays, Keynes General Theory is being developed into new dimension i, e. the macro-disequilibrium theory, and adequacy, and appropriateness of the theory and its significant contributions to modern economics are being reinterpreted and substantiated.

Climate Change Adaptation Policy and Expansion of Irrigated Agriculture in Georgia, U.S.

  • The expansion of irrigated agricultural production can be appropriate for the southeast region in the U.S. as a climate change adaptation strategy. This study investigated the effect of supplemental development of irrigated agriculture on the regional economy by applying the supply side Georgia multiregional input-output (MRIO) model. For the analysis, 100% conversion of non-irrigated cultivable acreage into irrigated acreage for cotton, peanuts, corn, and soybeans in 42 counties of southwest Georgia is assumed. With this assumption, the difference in total net returns of production between the non-irrigation and irrigation method is calculated as input data of the Georgia MRIO model. Based on the information of a 95% confidence interval for each crop's average price, the lower and upper bounds of estimated results are also presented. The total impact of cotton production was $60 million with the range of $35 million to $85 million: The total impact of peanuts, soybeans, corn was $10.2 million (the range of $3.28 million to $23.7 million), $6.6 million (the range of $3.1 million to $10.2 million), $1.2 million (the range of -$6 million to $8.5 million), respectively.

A Study on Responsible Investment Strategies with ESG Rating Change (ESG 등급 변화를 이용한 책임투자전략 연구)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of ESG rating changes of companies listed in Korean Stock Exchange on stock returns. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected prices and ESG ratings of all the companies listed on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index. Based on yearly change of ESG ratings we grouped companies as 2 portfolios(upgrade and downgrade) and calculated portfolios' return. Findings - First, the difference in returns between upgraded and downgraded portfolios is small and statistically insignificant. Second, however, in the COVID-19 period (2020 ~ 2021), the upgraded portfolio outperforms the downgraded portfolio by 0.7 percentage points per month. The difference in returns between upgraded and downgraded portfolios is statistically significant after controlling for the Carhart four factors. Lastly, there are much higher volatility when the ESG rating changes are made of companies with low levels of ESG ratings. Research implications or Originality - This study is the first to examine the impact of ESG rating changes on stock returns in Korea. Furthermore, the findings can serve as a reference for managers who want to control a firm's risk by ESG rating changes. Practically, asset managers can use the findings to construct portfolios that are less risky or more profitable than the market portfolio.

Economic Feasibility Analysis According to Seam Location of Ship Pieces

  • The structure of a ship is completed by processing various steel plates and welding these plates. This butt welding of plates is defined as a seam in shipyards, and this study seeks to find a way to decrease costs by reducing the utilization of steel through effective seam arrangement. Seams were defined and classified according to purpose, and examples of "pieces" and "main plates" where seam creation had an economical saving effect were selected. For "pieces," the change in the weight of steel utilized depending on the presence or absence of a seam was calculated, and the resulting change in cost increase was presented. In the case of the "main plate," the quantity of seams does not change, but an example of cost variation due to the appropriate placement of seams is presented. Hence, a large difference was found in the costs of "pieces" depending on seam location. Thus, it was advantageous to create additional seams. For the "main plate," it was found that narrow-width and wide-width materials incur more costs. This study demonstrates that creating seams is economically advantageous but may not be preferred owing to the increased workload from a production perspective.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics of the landscape changes in Gwangjyu city and Icheon city, the suburban areas on the outskirts of the Seoul metropolitan area, by focusing on the causes of the urban sprawl and the resultant morphological characteristics of landscape degradation. Particular attention has been given to the 'advantages for developing suburb including geographical proximity and land price', 'institutional regulation such as land-use regulation' and 'community solidarity' as drivers for possible introduction of external factors. The types of landscape change were divided into three, after having on-the-ground research on eleven chosen towns and interviews with head of a village: Overwhelming Change, Separated and Small-Scale Change. It was found that, in general, the quality of landscape was best for the small-scale change type, followed by separated and overwhelming change types. While the types of landscape change are correlated with the geographical proximity, its relevance with land regulation is relatively weak. The study found that imposing a land-use regulation as a means to prevent changes in suburban village landscape may not be fully effective. Also it analyzed that villages could better manage with keen interest the surrounding landscape if there is a high degree of solidarity within the village community. Therefore, the sense of community could play an important complementary role to land-use regulation which does not suffice in itself to manage suburban landscape.

  • The trend and outlook of energy supply and demand have an crucial effect on not only energy sector but also korean economy due to the rapid change of energy environments with continuous high oil price such as dubai crude oil price of above $60 a barrel. Specifically, korea is the 9th largest energy consuming nation in the world and the 97 percentages of energy import totally depends on the import of energy resources in korea. Korean economy is influenced directly by the trend and outlook of world energy on account of that. Moreover, Should korea be the annex 1 country having responsibility for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2000, in 2013, The effectuation of united nations framework convention on climate change will affect korean economy severely. In this study, we analyze the supply and demand of primary energy resources such as petroleum, coal, and natural gas. we then suggest the optimal alternatives of energy technology development that play an important part, which will be a temporary bridge, in going forward with hydrogen economy in the aspects of energy policy.

Comparative Analysis on Efficiency and Productivity for Korea, Japan and Global Parcel Delivery Companies (한국, 일본, 글로벌 택배기업의 효율성 및 생산성 비교 분석)

  • Purpose - The parcel delivery service(courier) industry all over the world has been expanding its market so far, but its growth has been declining in recent years. In this situation, most parcel delivery companies are having trouble with managing themselves because of the pressure from the customer to increase service level and decrease the rate. The purpose of this study is to provide ways to improve competitive advantages of the parcel delivery service industry by evaluating the multi-period operating efficiency of Korea, Japan and global service providers. Research design, data, and methodology - The data for the period of 2011 to 2014 were collected from the annual reports published by parcel delivery companies. In this study, we analyze the marketability (revenue), profitability (operating profits), and management conditions (net profits) of parcel service companies by combining information on human resources (number of employees) and material resources (total assets and equity). Therefore, the number of employees, total assets, and equity are selected as input variables, and revenue, operating profits, and net profits as the output variables. In this study, DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) is used to measure the comparative efficiency and MPI (Malmquist Productivity Index) is used to analyze the trend of change of the efficiency for a multi-year period. Results - The operational efficiency scores of medium-sized parcel delivery companies in Korea are higher than other larger competitors such as Korean, Japan and Global larger companies. As of 2014, Logen(1.878) was found to be the most efficient parcel delivery enterprise, followed by KGB (1.224), and Kyoungdong(1.002). Otherwise, Hanjin(0.235), CJ(0.262), Hyundai Logistics(0.657), DHL(0.611), UPS(0.766), FedEx(0.498), TNT(0.350), Yamato(0.762) and Sagawa(0.520), larger sized companies, were done inefficiently. The productivity of parcel delivery companies is influenced by endogenous factors as well as exogenous ones such as changes in business environment and technological advances. Conclusions - Korean medium-sized companies have relatively high efficiency scores in operation. That is why they still survive the competitive market in Korea where market restructuring on the industry has been expected to be conducted for many years. The reason why medium-sized couriers had higher efficient scores than larger couriers is that most of couriers spend more operating expenses versus unit price of delivery which is the amount of money that is needed in order to send a package by parcel service. So the delivery unit price must be taken into account by all the expenses associated with the cost of fuel, labor and maintenance expenses for facilities, etc. therefore, the unit price must be increased to strengthen business competitive power. In order for the industry to have more competitive advantage, the companies need to make profits by increasing demand volume and raising the delivery rate to provide high-quality delivery service to customers. And both endogenous and exogenous change must take precedence in order to strengthen their competitiveness.
