This research delves into the evolving interplay between occupational diseases, work-related illnesses, and accidents in the construction industry, focusing on the past twenty years. One significant discovery is the 19-fold escalation in reported occupational diseases, prompting an examination of their root causes and connections to workplace environments. Frequently encountered work-related ailments include physically strenuous tasks, low back pain, and cerebrovascular issues, highlighting the need for robust prevention and management approaches. Predominantly, noise-induced hearing loss and pneumoconiosis are the most common occupational diseases. The study unveils notable correlations between specific work-related illnesses and accidents, indicating the necessity for bespoke safety measures. Additionally, a pronounced association between work-related illnesses and occupational diseases offers insights into underlying risk factors. Remarkably, the findings propose a bidirectional link between occupational diseases and accidents, challenging traditional beliefs about causality. These insights are pivotal for enhancing safety protocols, focusing on preventive measures, and foreseeing occupational diseases that may arise following accidents in the construction industry.

The duty of construction clients in WSH (Workplace Safety and Health) system was included in the amendment of Occupational Safety and Health Act (enforced on 16 January 2020), which was estimated the shift of paradigm in the prevention of construction accidents. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the analysis results of construction clients' role in the construction project, which were performed by authors over the recent years in order to impose the duty on construction clients, and to suggest their role according the plan, design, and construction stage. Utilizing the systematic literature review process based on Meta analysis, the related papers were selected. For the selected papers, related domestic and foreign regulations, and other prominent report, the construction clients' role was analyzed by reflecting the experts' advice. Results show that the construction clients should control the designer and contractor for implementing the WHS system during the whole process of the construction project. They should supply sufficient source and time to ensure the workers' safety. In the plan stage, the key role of construction clients is to identify intensively controlled hazard and risk reduction plan and to transfer the results. In the design stage, their key role is to select the designer with the capacity in WSH and to assist the designer for the safety design. The main key role of construction clients in the costruction stage is to select the contractor with specialty in WSH including a contract reflecting the WSH requirement and to check implementation of WSH plan, WSH cost, WSH education, and accident report. In addition, it is thought that the construction clients' participations in the site WSH activity and adjustment of safety and health problem among contractors can be effect in the prevention of construction accidents.

Background: The functions and values of rural villages as the space of living are recognized anew, but occupational accident rate due to farm work accidents is on the rise each year. Therefore, the seriousness of such a problem emerges. The convergence technology combining ICT is recently applied to industries overall, and therefore better services are offered. However, studies on ICT convergence has not yet been applied to the agricultural safety field. Method: This study identified ICT convergence service technology trends and representative serious accident types mainly occurring in agricultural activities. This study defined the major factors of farm work accidents and ICT to solve those accident factors including the sensor technology, wired/wireless communication technology and location information service, and applied them to prototype PCB for the development of an agricultural safety monitoring system. Results: This study proposed an emergency monitoring system for farmers and a harmful environment monitoring system. The ICT technology to prevent farm work accidents can be summarized as sensing technology, ICT and network technology and user interface technology. This study also designed PCB module configuration and situation judgment algorithm as basic research for proposed monitoring system development. Conclusion: The ICT-based agricultural safety monitoring research proposed in this study is expected to become the basis to build a future real time monitoring system, and also is expected to contribute to social safety and welfare service improvement for farmers. Application: The ICT convergence farmer accident prevention system will make contributions to the prevention of serious farm work accidents.

A safety critical system is a system that leads to injury of people, damage of property and environment due to functional failures or occurrence of undesired condition. Therefore, to ensure the safety of a system, system engineers should consider the inherent hazards of the system at design phase of the system development, and also should design the prevention actions to minimize damage when an accident occurred. The objective of these actions is preventing the serious damage from accidents that can occur due to unforeseen circumstance. Recently, many studies have been performed to identify and analyze their hazards at design phase of safety critical systems. This paper suggests a safety analysis technique for analyzing the collision among those prevention actions to reduce accident and its effect by the collision of these actions that did not mentioned in previous studies. Through the proposed technique, it would improve robustness of safety and would help the design of prevention actions into system for the occurrence of accidents.
Cause analysis of accidents associated with industrial machines and devices is essential to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of industrial safety system in Korea. This study focuses on cause analysis of accidents associated with industrial machines and devices. In particular, analysis of abstracts of accidents which are written in descriptive format and, therefore, inherently unstructured and exhibits characteristics of big data is suggested and tested. Automatic analysis of such big data performed in this study reveals the consistent results with the manual analysis results in previous studies. Analysis results also suggest that incorporating transition from the current user-oriented indirect regulations to more manufacturer and user balanced direct regulations will guarantee more effective prevention of industrial accidents at the early stage of generation of danger.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the food safety-oriented policy and the survey on its effect in foodservice industry. The current thesis was based on the questionnaire survey conducted between January and March 2006 for seven food service companies. 240 questionnaires were distributed to each of the selected restaurants, from which a total of 200 questionnaires were collected. The results of this study were analyzed with the frequency analysis, correlative analysis and regression analysis using the SPSS 12.0 package program. The results of the test of hypotheses can be summarized as follows. We find that, as for food safety-oriented policy factors, there is a significant relationship among the survey factors including customer satisfaction, cost reduction, customer prior occupation, accident prevention and suitable relation. The current analysis exhibits favorable results in the food safety-oriented policy and the survey factors. Thus, foodservice management needs to employ food safety-oriented policy aggressively.
Recently, industrial accidents rate has been gradually decreasing due to the development of safety management methods, but until now, the accident rate in the construction sector is higher than other industries. Large-scale construction sites are operating systematic safety systems to reduce industrial accidents. However, small and medium sized construction sites do not have systematic safety system and lack safety management ability, so that disaster is not reduced compared with large scale construction site. As a result, disaster prevention technology instruction system has been implemented to reduce the disasters of small and medium scale construction sites. However, in the case of a small construction site less than 2 billion won, there is little decrease in the accident rate, and in some cases, the accident rate increases. After the technical guidance system has been implemented, it is necessary to identify the performance and problems of implementation and to improve its effectiveness. In this study, we suggest the improvement plan to improve the efficiency of the technical guidance system by analyzing the problems and actual conditions of technical guidance operation in small and medium sized construction work sites.
Unlike in general manufacturing process, safety management in laboratory-based research area is complicated because the latter generally involves trying untested methods or handling unusual substances in small amounts. Laboratory accidents in South Korea have recently shown an increasing trend. Unfortunately, statistics on such accidents are not officially published by any domestic public agencies. In this study, multivariate analysis was performed on the relationships between variables to develop effective strategies for preventing laboratory accidents. A Cross-Tabulation Analysis of accident-related factors in 179 accident cases revealed that the laboratory type, accident type, and unsafe-act type are all statistically significant, whereas the unsafe condition and management factors differ with the statistical criteria. Furthermore, the results of a Multiple-Correspondence Analysis showed that accidents can be divided largely into three groups having different accident causes and injury types; this confirms the necessity of different strategies to prevent accidents of each type. The findings also reveal differences between the distribution of accident types mentioned in the accident case collection books and actual reported cases. This suggests that an official statistical system administered by a public institution would be necessary for effective prevention of laboratory accidents.
This study focuses on the control strategy for industrial safety in Korea. Specifically, the effect of safety budget such as the industrial accident prevention fund on the safety performance to prevent and reduce industrial accidents is statistically examined first and modeled as a second order system. The effectiveness of such a dynamic model is also explained with a simple PI control mechanism in a feedback loop. The simulated model, however, suggests that, without improving the efficiency of the safety system, extra safety budget needed to decrease the accident rate to a level in advanced countries is far beyond the social consensus. An efficient way of reducing industrial accidents based on such a dynamic model with more internal damping but with less elastic nature in a feedback loop framework needs to be implemented.
Purpose: In order to reduce industrial accidents caused by forklift trucks, it is actually necessary to analyze the causes of accidents. This study aims to present disaster prevention measures by analyzing accident cases by forklift accident type. Method: For the analysis of industrial accidents, including serious industrial accidents caused by forklifts from 2021 to 2022, accident statistics from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency were used to analyze accidents in four types. Result: In the last two years, the total number of victims, including deaths and other serious injuries, was 2,559, which was 1,396 in 2021 and 1,163 in 2022. Disaster prevention measures were presented for industrial accidents by size and occurrence type of equipment that cause serious industrial accidents in which more than 1,000 people are injured annually. Conclusion: It is necessary to expand the number of workers subject to the forklift financial support project to less than 100. It is necessary to amend the proviso on boarding restrictions in Article 86, Paragraph 7 of the 「Regulations on Industrial Safety and Health Standards」. It is mandatory to install front and rear cameras. It is necessary to install driving-linked safety belts. It is necessary to install line beams obligatory. It is necessary to expand the subject of forklift special safety and health education to workplaces that have more than one forklift truck, and it is necessary to redesignate the training hours to 16 hours every year.
