제주 지역 성인의 담낭용종 유병률 및 대사증후군과의 관련성 (The association between prevalence of gallbladder polyp and metabolic syndrome in Jeju Island adults)

  • Metabolic syndrome (MS) is increasing as obesity increases in Korea. In this study, we investigated the relationship between MS and gallbladder polyp (GBP). We examined 9,861 subjects who visited a single health-screening center in Jeju between January 2009 and December 2019. MS was defined according to the revised National Cholesterol Education Program criteria. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed after adjusting for age to evaluate the association between the components of MS and GBP. The estimated rates of MS and GBP among subjects were 28.5% and 4.8%, respectively. Multivariate analysis suggested that MS (odds ratio[OR] 1.405, P=0.006) was the only independent factor affecting GBP. In our study sample, MS was correlated with GBP. The prevalence of gallbladder polyp increased with an increase in the risk factors indicating MS.

삼사십대 성인에서 대사증후군 관련 영향 요인 (The Affecting Factors of Metabolic Syndrome in Korean Adults in Their 30s and 40s)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the affecting factors of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and it's components in Korean adults in their 30s and 40s. Methods: The present study assessed 1,215 subjects who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2014. We analyzed the prevalence rate of MetS and it's components and their affecting factors. Results: The prevalence rate of MetS was 16%. Family history of diabetes mellitus and, low or high saturated fat intake were associated with MetS in males. Low income, low education, excessive sleep, excessive carbohydrate and low saturated fat intake were associated with MetS in females. Triglycerides showed the highest prevalence in males and were related to white collar socioeconomic status, smoking, and obesity. Triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were high in females, and triglycerides were affected by excessive sleep, family history, low saturated fat intake, and obesity. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol was affected by obesity. Conclusions: Because sex differences exist in MetS, it is necessary to intervene through diverse approaches. In particular, a continuous management and preventive intervention for obesity is needed.

1인가구 성인의 대사증후군 영향 요인 분석 (Analysis of Metabolic Syndrome in Korean Adult One-Person Households)

  • Purpose: This study was to conducted to investigate the prevalence and related factors of metabolic syndrome (MS) among Korean adults. Methods: We used secondary data of the sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2013 to 2015 and selected 4,939 adults 20 to 64 years old. General characteristics and health-related characteristics were included as related factors for analysis. Chi-square tests were used to compare the prevalence of MS between one-person and multiple-person households, while a multiple logistic regression model was used to identify factors to MS among one-person and multiple-person households. Results: MS of one-person households (26.4%) were significantly higher (${\chi}^2=7.81$, p=.017) than multiple-households (19.5%). Risk factors for MS were identified as walking, flexibility exercises, reading nutrition labels, and sleep hours in one-person households; and flexibility exercises and dietary control among multiple-person households using multiple logistic regression. Conclusion: Specialized health policies and programs should be provided to reduce MS prevalence in one-person households in consideration of risk factors revealed in this study.

Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome and Its Predicting Factors among Small-sized Company Workers

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to examine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cardiovascular risk factors among workers at small-sized companies having fewer than 50employees in Korea. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a secondary data analysis on workers' health examination data. Data from 21,784 employed workers were analyzed, including 16,488 males (mean age 38.7years)and 5,296 females (mean age 40.5 years). Participants were newly enrolled in annual health check-ups at a professional health clinic from 2009 to 2011. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify age-adjusted gender specific predicting factors of MetS incidence. Results: The prevalence of MetS was 13.4% in male and 7.7% in female workers. Logistic regression analysis showed that, when age was adjusted for, family history of cardiovascular disease (CVD) was a predicting factor in both male and female workers. For male workers, heavy alcohol drinking and non-manual occupation (office workers/drivers) predicted MetS. Conclusion: Health care providers should screen for MetS periodically in small work places especially for those with a family history of CVD. Educational counseling needs to be given to male workers with sedentary occupations with an aim to reduce heavy drinking and encourage lifestyle modification.

40세 이상 중장년의 대사증후군과 녹내장과의 관련성 연구 -제5기 국민건강영양조사 자료중심으로- (A Relationship Study between Metabolic Syndrome and Glaucoma in a Middle-Aged Men over the Age of 40's -Based on the 5th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey-)

  • Pupose. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between metabolic syndrome and glaucoma in a middle-aged men over the age of 40's by using the data from the 5th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2010~2012). Methods. The subjects for the analysis were comprised of 410 patients who were at least 40 years or more with metabolic syndrome and glaucoma. The comparison between the metabolic syndrome and glaucoma according to the health demographic characteristics, health behavior and health conditions was analyzed with ${\chi}^2$-test. The complex samples logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the odds ratio of glaucoma according to the health demographic characteristics, health behavior and health conditions and the combination of the comprising factors of the metabolic syndrome. Results. The prevalence of glaucoma among the subjects with metabolic syndrome and glaucoma was significantly higher in the case of females, as their age increased, educational level decreased, income level decreased, who are non-smokers, non-drinkers, with exercising habits of less than 3 days a week (p<0.001). However, the glaucoma OR was significantly high in case of increasing age, with exercising habits of less than 3 days a week, and hypertension (p<0.01), while the OR was significantly low in case of the drinking group (p<0.05). The results of analyzing the odds ratio for the occurrence of glaucoma with the components of metabolic syndrome showed that the OR for glaucoma is significantly low (OR 0.63) in case of concurrently high fasting blood glucose, high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol levels (p=0.05). Conclusions. Therefore the thorough management of metabolic syndrome and components is needed to prevent glaucoma.

Relationship between metabolic syndrome and intake of ultra-processed foods in Korean adults: based on 6th and 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013-2018)

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Metabolic syndrome is closely associated with lifestyle factors, including diet and nutritional intake. Modern trends show a shift in food consumption from healthy home-cooked meals to processed and instant foods. Therefore, this study analyzed the association between ultra-processed food intake and the development of metabolic syndrome in Korean adults based on the data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2013-2018. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The subjects of this study were 17,414 adults aged 19-80 years who participated in the 6th-7th KNHANES. Processed food was classified into four categories, NOVA1 to NOVA4, using 24-h recall data. The higher the NOVA category, the more processed the food. Statistical analysis was conducted using logistic regression to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome according to the consumption of ultra-processed foods. RESULTS: Among the diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome, hypertension (odds ratio [OR], 0.72; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.62-0.85; Q4 vs. Q1, P-trend < 0.001) and high triglycerides (OR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.72-0.94; Q4 vs. Q1, P-trend < 0.001) showed a correlation with the percentages of energy consumed from ultra-processed foods. The OR for metabolic syndrome, according to the percentages of energy consumed from ultra-processed foods, is shown only for men. The OR showed that the percentages of energy consumed from ultra-processed foods were associated with increased metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that consumption of ultra-processed foods raises the risk of metabolic syndrome especially among men. To prevent metabolic syndrome, it is necessary to prepare appropriate dietary guidelines for Korean adults.

백내장과 대사증후군의 관련성 - 2005, 2007년 국민건강영양조사 이용 (Relations of Cataract to Metabolic Syndrome and its Components - Based on the KNHANES 2005, 2007)

  • 목적: 백내장에 대사증후군 및 그 구성요소가 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 방법:2005, 2007년의 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 대사증후군 및 구성요소와 백내장과의 관계를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는, 60세 이상의 성인 2,120 명을 대상으로 대사증후군 이상인자의 수(${\leq}$1, 2, 3, ${\geq}$4) 에 따른 백내장 발생의 위험도(Odds ratio: OR)를 살펴보고, 대사증후군 관련치료제가 백내장에 미치는 영향 또한 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석으로 분석하였다. 결과: 대사증후군의 구성요소를 하나도 가지지 않은 대상자를 기준으로 하고, 성, 연령, 생활습관변수 및 사회경제적 변수를 보정했을 때 보유하고 있는 대사증후군의 구성요소가 늘어날수록 백내장의 위험도는 더욱 커지는 경향을 보였다(p for trend < 0.0001). 또한, 대사증후군 요소 중 혈압(OR(95% Confidence Interval): 1.32(1.05,1.65))과 공복혈당(1.35(1.09,1.67))에 이상이 있는 경우는 성과 연령을 보정한 후에도 백내장의 위험을 유의하게 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 그 중 공복혈당장애의 경우는 앞서 보정한 변수에 사회경제적 변수를 함께 보정하여도 백내장 발생에 유의미한 위험도(1.35(1.09,1.67))를 나타내었다. 대사증후군이 있는 경우에도 동일한 보정 후에 백내장에 대한 유의한 위험도(1.26(1.01,1.58))를 보였다. 마지막으로 높은 혈압이 있는 대상자들을 대상으로 시행된 분석에서, 고혈압 치료제의 경우 백내장의 위험도(1.49(1.14,1.96))를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 대사증후군 및 그 구성요소는 백내장 발생의 위험을 높이는 것으로 확인되었고, 고혈압 치료제의 경우도 백내장의 위험도를 높이는 것으로 추정된다.

한 농촌지역 주민들의 대사증후군 관련요인 (Factors Affecting Metabolic Syndrome in a Rural Community)

  • Objectives: This study set out to investigate the relationship among the factors of metabolic syndrome diagnosis criteria, their risk factors including general characteristics, and the distribution of the diagnosis criteria and risk among the adult residents of a rural community. Methods: Among 1,968 residents, those who had three or more of the risk factors of metabolic syndrome, which include blood pressure, blood glucose, triglyceride, abdominal obesity, and HDL-C, were categorized as the metabolic syndrome group. And their correlations were analyzed. Results: As for the risk ratio with five factors of the metabolic syndrome diagnosis criteria, it was high according to age and smoking. In addition, the results show that body fat percentage, hs-CRP, insulin, BMI, PP2, total cholesterol, and W/Ht also had much impact on increasing the risk ratio of the metabolic syndrome diagnosis criteria. It turned out that metabolic syndrome was affected by the body mass index(BMI), insulin, waist to height ratio(W/Ht), and hs-CRP. It was 2.51 times crude odds ratio that BMI over the 25kg/m2 in the ratio of the fact of metabolic syndrome and adjusted for sex odds ratio 2.50times and W/Ht was 3.31times, adjusted for sex odds ratio 3.25 times. Conclusion: BMI, W/Ht and smoking of the general characteristics seem to have close relationships with high correlations between the metabolic syndrome diagnosis criteria and the risk factors. Thus there is an urgent need to evaluate them and take interventions and monitoring measures for the clustering of risk factors.

직장인의 건강관련 행위와 대사증후군 요인별 차이 융합적 연구 (The Convergence correlational Study on Office Workers' Health Related Behaviors and Prevalence Rates of Metabolic Syndrome)

  • 본 연구는 대사증후군의 위험요인과의 관계를 분석함을 통해 대사증후군 및 심혈관 질환의 효과적인 예방 관리 체계 수립을 위한 근거자료를 제시하고, 대사증후군 환자 교육과 직장인의 만성질환에 관한 중요한 기초자료를 제공하고자 우리나라 직장인의 건강검진 결과를 통하여 건강관련 행위, 흡연 음주 등과 운동이 대사증후군에 미치는 영향력을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구의 조사대상은 서울에 기반한 전문 건강검진센터에서 직장의료보험으로 검진을 받은 직장인 291명으로 하였다. 본 연구의 자료는 직장인 건강검진 내용을 바탕으로 하였다.연구방법으로는 SPSS/Win Program ver 20.0을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 독립변수와 종속변수와의 관계를 분석하기 위하여 F-test 검증 및 ANOVA test를 실시하였으며, 연관성의 검증을 위해서는 $x^2$(Chi-square) 검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 직장인 291명 중 대사증후군 유병률이 19.2%로 나타났고, 흡연행태로 인한 대사증후군 유병률의 비흡연 그룹은 12.7%, 과거 흡연 그룹 중에서 가볍게 흡연했던 그룹은 25.0% 중흡연 그룹은 25.9%, 현재 흡연 그룹 중에서 경흡연 그룹은 29.7% 중흡연 그룹 26.7%로 분석되었다. 결과적으로, 본 연구는 직장인의 흡연과 음주 생활형태가 직장인의 대사증후군 유병률과 밀접한 융합적 관련성이 있음을 시사하고 있다.

한국인에서 커피 및 녹차의 섭취빈도가 간염증 수치 및 대사증후군에 미치는 영향 (Effect of coffee and green tea consumption on liver enzyme and metabolic syndrome in Korean)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한국에서 커피 및 녹차 등을 섭취하는 생활습관이 혈청 AST, ALT 및 대사증후군에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 국민건강영양조사를 받은 모든 연령의 약 4만 8천명 중 19세부터 79세의 성인남녀를 대상으로 하였다. 지난 1년간 흡연, 음주력의 여부, 1개월 간 흡연양, 알코올 섭취량, 체중, 체질량지수, 중성지방, 고밀도 지단백, 혈청 AST, ALT를 측정을 하였고 이를 바탕으로 대사성 증후군을 평가하였다. 커피를 많이 마실수록 통계적으로 유의하게 체중($p{\leq}0.001$)과 체질량 지수($p{\leq}0.001$)는 높았다. 커피를 많이 마시는 사람에서 혈청 AST는 낮았다(p=0.017). 하루에 커피를 한잔 이상 섭취하는 경우 고혈압의 유병률, 공복혈당 이상 및 고지혈증의 빈도가 낮았으며, 대사증후군의 발생빈도가 의미 있게 낮았다. 녹차 섭취 빈도 증가는 혈청 AST, ALT에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 녹차를 많이 마시는 것과 체질량지수, 대사성 증후군의 유병률과는 연관이 없었다. 결론적으로 커피 섭취를 많이 마시는 사람에서 혈청 AST수치가 낮았다. 커피를 하루에 두잔 이상 섭취하는 군에서 총에너지 섭취와 체질량 지수가 높았으나 고혈압, 고지혈증, 공복혈당이 의미 있게 낮았으며 대사증후군의 발생률도 낮았다.
