  • A general procedure to implement the sensitivity analysis of PSC flexural members is proposed based on the analytical calculation of the gradients of stresses and strains with respect to the 21 design variables in a closed format. The formulation covers the long term losses including concrete creep, shrinkage, and PS steel relaxation as well as load effects. The derived formulation is applied to the rectangular section PSC beam with prestressing and nonprestressing steels for the sensitivity analysis. The analytically calculated sensitivity results are compared with those numerically calculated.

  • The cost on transmission and election of precast concrete members largely depends on the weight of them. In this study, the weight of prestressed precast beam could be reduced by control the section and prestressing force to meet the required strength on the basis of the optimum process. The top and bottom concrete stress of the section considered is required to check according to each construction step for this process. The original rectangular beam weight could be reduced up to 50~39% due to the development of a U-beams from the optimum process.

  • A numerical procedure is developed to analyze the time-dependent behavior of prestressed concrete bridges constructed by the segmental cantilever method. The developed computer program accounts for the time-dependent properties of prestressed concrete materials due to the varing modulus of elasticity, creep and shrinkage of concrete and the stress relaxation of prestressing steel. It also accounts for the stiffness increase due to the presence of the steel reinforcements and the effects of the shear deformation of the prestressed concrete bridge girders. The program is applied to a multi-span continuous segmental prestressed concrete bridge to demonstrate its capabilities.

  • The changes of stuctural systems in constructing prestressed concrete bridges are investigated according to several construction methods. Based on these investigation, structurally meaningful works are summarized and defined as "Construction Commands". And time-dependent characteristics of concrete and prestressing steels are fully considered. For the static and/or dynamic analysis of three dimensional prestressed concrete bridges at ant construction stages, it is propoesd to use "Comstruction Commands" directly as user's input data. A example of cable syayed bridges is presented by the computer program developed by the present simulation method.

  • In order to apply precast decks to the continuous composite bridges, several experiments and analytical studies were performed. For the continuous composite bridges, special attention should be paid to the transverse joints in negative moment region. Judging from the results, combination of longitudinal internal prestressing tendon and the external tendon can be effectively used for the prevention of cracking in the negative moment region of precast decks.

  • Transverse prestressing of bridge decks is an attractive concept with substantial benefits in both economy and crack control in slabs. To evaluate the necessary information for the prestressed long span bridge slab design, a series of static and fatigue tests were peformed. It is shown that the minimum thickness recommendation in Korean Highway Bridge Design Code is too conservative.

  • Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) composites are widely applied to strengthen deteriorated concrete structures. This paper presents the experimental results of the performance of reinforced concrete(RC) beams strengthened with externally prestressed CFRP plates. Simple beams with 3 m span length were tested to investigate the effect of prestressing force of CFRP plates on the flexural behavior of externally strengthened RC beams.

  • 본 연구는 파형복부 PSC 거더의 사용성 개선과 프리스트레싱 효율성의 장점을 동시에 얻을 수 있도록 좌굴 특성을 고려한 부분 파형강판을 복부에 설치한 PSC 거더를 제안하고 정적재하 실험을 통하여 제안된 부분파형 PSC 거더의 거동특성을 평가하였다.

  • In a design of LNG storage tank, one of the major loading conditions that significantly affects liquid tightness of the outer concrete wall is the cryogenic temperature of LNG under the emergency condition of LNG leakage. Proposed in this study are the more consistent procedures to ensure the liquid tightness of LNG tank focusing on the design of prestressing tendon. It is expected that the proposed schemes lead to a more effective serviceability design of LNG tank that satisfies various requirements for the liquid tightness in an efficient manner.

  • We studied the piezoresistivity of a steel-alloy 'wire when the deformation exceeds the elastic limit. It is that the piezoresistivity of the steel-alloy wire could be modeled by a bilinear function. To predict the plastic piezoresistivity relation, we developed a simple plastic piezoresistivity model based on the classical hardening plasticity. If structural members such as prestressing tendons in concrete structures are concerned, it is a very efficient and simple tool for monitoring.
