  • The present article aims to develop a numerical method for numerical analysis of fusible filler behavior for self-interconnection process. The CIP(Cubic Interpolated Propagation) method is used for determination of interfaces and the CSF(Continuum Surface Force) model is adopted for evaluation of curvature. To validate these models, first, the present study performs the numerical simulation for a droplet formation and it simulates the interactions among fusible fillers inside resin under the operating condition. As a result, similar tendency is found compared to the experimental observation. This study would be a first step towards finding the optimum condition for self-interconnection process.

  • In this study, the major tendencies of divorce as represented in articles of Korea's major daily newspapers from the 1940's to the 1990's were explored. The method used for this study was content analysis, and 1,741 articles related to divorce were selected for analysis from the Chosun and Donga. The main categories and subcategories were classified as attitude toward divorce(negative, accepting, neutral), present condition of divorce(statistics, survey, analysis), cause of divorce(marital conflict, conflict with family, health-related troubles, financial troubles, and others), and information offered about divorce(related-laws, prevention and adaptation, and others). The major findings of this study were as follows. 1) The most frequently found category was information offered about divorce, and the following categories were featured in the newspapers in the order of cause of divorce, present condition of divorce, and attitude toward divorce. 2) The major discussions of divorce as represented in articles of Korea's daily newspapers from the 1940's to 1990's have been reflecting the changes of related laws, policy and legislation in our society. 3) The content analysis of newspaper articles on divorce indicated that concepts of marriage, divorce and family in our society have been diversified.

  • In this study, uncertainty analysis based on ITTC(International Towing Tank Conference) Recommended Procedures is carried out in the towing-tank experiment for motion responses and added resistance. The experiment was conducted for KVLCC2 model in head sea condition. The heave, pitch and added resistance were measured in different wave conditions, and the measurement was repeated up to maximum 15 times in each wave condition in order to observe the uncertainty of measured data. The uncertainty analysis was carried out by adopting the ISO-GUM(International Organization for Standardization, Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurements) method recommended by ITTC. This paper describes the details about the analysis method, uncertainty and the measured uncertainty for each source. The uncertainty analysis results are summarized as a tabular form. To validate the accuracy of the present measurement, the experimental results are compared with the results of numerical computation and other experiment. From the present uncertainty analysis, the main sources of uncertainty are identified, which can be very useful to improve the accuracy for added resistance experiment.

  • The importance of uniform is getting increased in the present society because it is one of symbols which represent a company and give customers the image of it. Uniform shows the kind of companies, one's position, and sometimes the actual job which one does. And workers who put on the same kind of uniform feel companionship among them, the security of their position and responsibility for their job, all of which elevate the efficiency of their job and the company. To enhance the functions of uniforms such as representativeness, esthetics, convenience and economization, the followings were studied. 1) Through survey on the present condition of seven different types of company uniforms, we analyzed preference of workers, staffs and consumers and did the factor analysis of uniform constitution. 2) It presented the relative importance among the uniform constitution. 3) The reflective condition of the uniform constitution was estimated. 4) It investigated the working condition and working movement.

  • The composite materials may be exposed to environmental (thermal or hygral or both) condition during their service life. The effect of environmental condition is usually adverse from the point of view of design of composite structures. In the present research study the effect of hygrothermal condition on the design of laminated composite structures is investigated. The active fiber composite (AFC) which may be utilized as actuator or sensor is considered in the present analysis. The sensor layer is used to sense the level of response of the composite structures. The sensed voltage is fed back to the actuator through the controller. In this study both displacement and velocity feedback controllers are employed to reduce the response of the composite laminate within acceptable limit. The Newmark direct time integration scheme is employed along with modal superposition method to improve the computational efficiency. It is observed from the numerical study that the laminated composite structures become weak in the presence of hygrothermal load. The response of the structure can be brought to the acceptable level once the AFC layer is activated through the feedback loop.

  • The main objective of the present study is to analyze the heat transfer characteristics in the vacuum carburizing furnace. Local temperatures are measured at different locations in the self-fabricated furnace for various operating conditions using K-type thermocouples. In addition, the present study simulates the fluid flows and heat transfer in the vacuum carburizing furnace using a commercial package (Fluent V. 6.0), and compares the predictions of local temperatures with experimental data. The temperature and flow fields are predicted. It is found that the time taken for reaching the steady-state temperature under the vacuum pressure is shorter than that under the normal pressure condition. It means that the carburizing furnace under vacuum pressure condition is capable of saving the required energy more efficiently than the furnace under the normal pressure condition. Furthermore, the temperature variations predicted by the numerical simulations are in good agreement with experimental data.

  • The parameters such as Richardson numbers or stability parameters are widely used to account for the extra straining effects due to three-dimensionality, curvature, rotation, swirl and others arising in paractical complex flows. Existing expressions for the extra strain in turbulence models such as $k-{\epsilon}$ models, however, do not satisfy the tensor invariant condition representing the coordinate indifference. In the present paper, considering the characteristics of both the mean strain rate and the mean vorticity, a new parameter to deal with the extra straining effects is proposed. The new parameter has a simple form and satisfies the tensor invariant condition. A semi-quantitative analysis between the present and previous parameters for several typical complex flows suggests that the newly proposed parameter is more general and adequate in representing the extra straining effects than the previous ad-hoc parameters.

  • This paper provides the evaluation method for the pressure vessel with internal wall-thinning defect, which is based on ASME design criteria. Pressure vessel has wall-thinning partially and patch reinforcement has been attached for reliable operating. However, present partial wall thinning could be through wall thinning at the next inspection time with present corrosion progress speed. Therefore safety margin was calculated for various conditions from present wall-thinning condition to additive patch reinforced condition via two-dimensional and three-dimensional, geometrically linear FE analyses using elastic materials.

  • In present study, the principal stress condition needed to conduct cubical large-scale triaxial test which can reflect three dimensional stress condition (or plain strain condition) in a dam was investigated by performing model test and numerical analysis and the principal stress ratio varying with the height of CFRD was examined. Also, the principal stress ratio in CFRD body was investigated from the monitoring results of horizontal and vertical earth pressure gages, installed in the center zone and lower part of transition zone of the dam body, respectively, in order to consider the principal stress condition in the large-scale triaxial test to model the behavior of CFRD. The result of the study indicated that the principal stress ratio decreased gradually from the lower to the upper part in the dam body for its center axis and was about 0.5 and 0.2 in the lower and upper part, respectively.
