This study analyzed causes and status of cracks to suggest preventives for welding cracks generated on fillet welding zone of atmosphere corrosion resisting steel box girder. Penetrant testing, a sort of non-destructive testing, was conducted for inspection of crack status on welding zone. As a result of test, welding cracks were found on the point of start, center and end to fillet welding zone of 32 mm-thickness. The result of carbon equivalent composition of materials was 0.452%. According to welding specification, to preheat prevent welding crack, preheat temperature of $100{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ should be kept before welding execution. It was failed to keep preheat temperature because it had been executed on winter season and the structure of box girder had wide heat transfer area. As a result of examination of time varying preheating temperature of 32mm-thickness material, it was understood that preheat temperature of above $230^{\circ}C$ on both 130mm-long sides of welded joint can prevent welding crack.

The thickness of laminar flame and preheat zone was computed from equation with burning velocity and the temperature profile, which is obtained by using premix code of Chemkin program for ethanol-air mixture. The computations were carried out under the unburned gas pressure 0.5bar-30bar and temperature of 300k-700K at 1.0. A difference flame thickness showed between temperature profile and equation with burning velocity. The ratio of flame thickness derived from the equation was about 45∼65% of the temperature profile, and the thickness of preheat zone was about 67.1% of the flame thickness. The flame thickness was decreased by increasing the pressure and temperature, but the effect of pressure is more significant than the effect of temperature on the flame thickness. The flame thickness was predicted by using the following equation. X(mm) = $X_{st}$ (T/300)$^{-0}$.65/(P)$^{-0}$.68/ (0.5bar$\leq$P$\leq$30bar, 300K$\leq$T$\leq$700K)K)
Excess enthalpy flame propagating an porous inert medium, which recirculate exhaust heat to the upstream cold mixture, is theoretically analyzed. Using the activation-energy asymptotics, the flame structure is divided into the thin reaction and the gas-phase preheat zone, as is traditionally done. Ahead and behind of the two, there exist an outer preheat zone, where heat is convectively transferred from solid to gas, and a downstream re-equilibrium zone, where thermal equilibrium between phases is established. Asymptotic solutions of species and energy equations in each zone are obtained and then matched to each other, and finally the mass burning rate is obtained as a function of the flame propagation velocity with respect to the solid phase and physical properties of gas and solid.
The effects of the heat input and preheat/interpass temperatures on the tensile strength and impact toughness of multipass welded weld metal were investigated and interpreted in terms of the recovery of the alloying elements and microstructure. Increases in both the heat input and preheat/interpass temperatures decreased the tensile strength of the weld metal. A lower recovery of alloying elements, especially Mn and Si, and smaller area fraction of acicular ferrite in the weld metal were observed in higher heat input welding, resulting in a lower tensile strength. In contrast, only a microstructure difference was observed at a higher preheat/interpass temperature. The impact toughness of the weld metal gradually increased with an increase in the heat input because of the lower tensile strength. However, it decreased again when the heat input was larger than 45 kJ/cm because of the much smaller area fraction of acicular ferrite. No effect of the preheat/interpass temperature on the impact toughness was observed. The formation of a weld metal heat-affect zone showed little effect on the impact toughness of the weld metal in this experiment.

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the fracture resistance characteristics of SA508 Cl.1a to SA508 Cl.3 welds manufactured for the reactor coolant loop piping system of nuclear power plants. The effect of the crack plane orientation to the welding process orientation and the preheat temperature on the fracture resistance characteristics were discussed. Results of the fracture resistance test showed that the effect of the crack plane orientation to the welding process orientation of the fracture toughness is significant, while that of preheat temperature on the fracture toughness is negligible. The micro Vickers hardness test, the metallographic observation and the fractography analysis were conducted to analyse the crack jump phenomenon on the L-R crack plane orientation in the multi-pass welding zone. As these results, it is shown that the crack jump phenomenon was produced because of the inhomogeneity between welding beads and the crack plane orientation must be considered for the safety of the welding zone in the piping system.

The thickness of flame and preheat zone from burning velocity which was computed by using Premix code of Chemkin program for methane-air mixture. Also the thickness was evaluated from temperature profile which is also obtained from Premix code for the equivalence ratio of 0.5 to 1.6. The computations were carried out for the laminar flame thickness and burning velocity under the unburned gas temperature 0.5bat-30bar and temperature of 300K-700K at ${\Phi}=l.0$. Comparison of the results showed no difference between these two methods. The flame thickness was decreased by increasing the pressure and temperature, but, the affect of pressure is more significant than the effect of temperature on the flame thickness. The thickness of preheat zone was about 66.5% of the flame thickness, and flame thickness and burning velocity were also predicted by using empirical equation.
In this study, the effect of central fuel injection on a coaxial laminar $CH_{4}/air$ flame was experimented at the defined premixing condition(${\Phi}=1.90$, ${\sigma}=50/75/100%$, x/D=10). The partial premixing parameter are the equivalence ratio that total fuel is fixed at 200cc/min, the fuel split degree which means the percentage of fuel entering the outer tube to the total amount, and the mixing distance indicating the nonreactant mixture's homogeneity between inner tube top and burner exit. The object is to investigate the flame structure and chemiluminescence characteristics of laminar partial premixed flame as changing mixing parameters. The radical signal was acquired from ICCD camera and PMT. Each intensity was compared with Abel inverted value for measuring the effect of background light on the peak signal location and the intensity at central preheat zone. The results show that the peak location of each radical was broaden as the fuel split degree increasing because the mixing quality was enhanced. and $OH^{\ast}$ is a good indicator for flame front between reaction and preheat zone. At last $CH_{2}^{\ast}$ has the same tendency with $CH^{\ast}$ but a thinner reaction zone than $CH^{\ast}$ due to a rapid decay on the burned gas side.

Recently with the rapid development in the industries such as an iron mill and chemical plants, these are enlarged by the use of the piping. This piping was encountered the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) because of stress by water pressure and residual stress of welding etc. under industrial water. In this paper, the behaviour of stress corrosion cracking on the weld zone of steel pipe piping water(SPPW) were investigated according to pre-heat before welding in natural seawater(specific resistance : 25$\Omega$-cm). The main results obtained are as follows :1) The stress corrosion cracking for SPPW and SB 41 is most ready to propagate in heat affected zone of weldment. 2) The SCC sensitivity of SPPW on weldment is more susceptible than that of SB 41. 3) The stress corrosion cracking growth of heat affected zone is delayed by the preheat and dry of base metal and electrode before welding.
In order to reduce NOx emissions in the 20kw class microturbines under development, the low NOx characteristics, as being an application to the lean premixed combustion technology, have been investigated. The study has been conducted at the conditions of high temperature and pressure. Air from a compressor with the temperature of 500K to 650K and the pressure of 0.3bar gauge to 0.7bar gauge, was supplied to the combustor through an air preheat-treatment. Sampling exhaust gases were measured at the immediate exit of the combustor. for the effect of temperature on NO and CO emissions. though NOx was increased, CO was decreased with increasing inlet air temperature. With increasing inlet air pressure, NOx and CO were increased also. NOx was decreased, but CO was increased with increasing inlet air mass flow rate. The test has been performed on the equivalent ratios of 0.10 to 0.25 in a lean region. NOx was increased with increasing equivalent ratios, but CO was decreased as an influence of flame temperature. In the very lean region of the equivalent ratio below 0.12, CO was increased suddenly, due to instability. As the results of this study, NOx and CO are found to be reduced to the similar level at the same time when operated at optimal conditions.

The vacuum investment casting process for a large gas turbine component, Inner Preswirl Support (IPS), was simulated by using commercial FEM package ProCAST(TM) with view factor radiation method. The solid fraction in mushy zone was directly measured by Differential thermal analysis(DTA-DSC mode). Three types gating design. considering liquid flow and heat release through it. were proposed. Solidification had begun at the ribs or thin sections of the IPS casting and advanced further through the upper and lower gates. The computed temperature gradient G and G/R values at 70% solidified temperature were used for prediction of microshrinkage formation during casting. The effect of mold preheat on the thermal history of the casting displayed minute effect on the microshrinkage formation.
