Whole Frame Error Concealment with an Adaptive PU-based Motion Vector Extrapolation for HEVC

  • Most video services are transmitted in wireless networks. In a network environment, a packet of video is likely to be lost during transmission. For this reason, numerous error concealment (EC) algorithms have been proposed to combat channel errors. On the other hand, most existing algorithms cannot conceal the whole missing frame effectively. To resolve this problem, this paper proposes a new Adaptive Prediction Unit-based Motion Vector Extrapolation (APMVE) algorithm to restore the entire missing frame encoded by High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). In each missing HEVC frame, it uses the prediction unit (PU) information of the previous frame to adaptively decide the size of a basic unit for error concealment and to provide a more accurate estimation for the motion vector in that basic unit than can be achieved by any other conventional method. The simulation results showed that it is highly effective and significantly outperforms other existing frame recovery methods in terms of both objective and subjective quality.

  • An embedded sensor is significantly influenced by its spatial environment, such as barriers or distance, through low power and signal strength. Due to these causes, noise data frequently occur in an embedded sensor. Because the information acquired from the embedded sensor exists in a time series, it is hard to detect an error which continuously takes place in the time series information on a realtime basis. In this paper, we proposes an error detection method based on time-series prediction that detects error signals of embedded sensors in real time in consideration of the physical characteristics of embedded devices. The error detection method based on time-series prediction proposed in this paper determines errors in generated embedded device signals using a stable distance function. When detecting errors by monitoring signals from an embedded device, the stable distance function can detect error signals effectively by applying error weight to the latest signals.   • Regression of conventional prediction techniques in data mining uses the model which is generated from the training step. This model is applied to new input data without any change. If this model is applied directly to time series, the rate of prediction accuracy will be decreased. This paper proposes an incremental regression for time series prediction like typhoon track prediction. This technique considers the characteristic of time series which may be changed over time. It is composed of two steps. The first step executes a fractional process for applying input data to the regression model. The second step updates the model by using its information as new data. Additionally, the model is maintained by only recent data in a queue. This approach has the following two advantages. It maintains the minimum information of the model by using a matrix, so space complexity is reduced. Moreover, it prevents the increment of error rate by updating the model over time. Accuracy rate of the proposed method is measured by RME(Relative Mean Error) and RMSE(Root Mean Square Error). The results of typhoon track prediction experiment are performed by the proposed technique IMLR(Incremental Multiple Linear Regression) is more efficient than those of MLR(Multiple Linear Regression) and SVR(Support Vector Regression).

Target Tracking Control of a Quadrotor UAV using Vision Sensor (비전 센서를 이용한 쿼드로터형 무인비행체의 목표 추적 제어)

  • The goal of this paper is to design the target tracking controller for a quadrotor micro UAV using a vision sensor. First of all, the mathematical model of the quadrotor was estimated through the Prediction Error Method(PEM) using experimental input/output flight data, and then the estimated model was validated via the comparison with new experimental flight data. Next, the target tracking controller was designed using LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) method based on the estimated model. The relative distance between an object and the quadrotor was obtained by a vision sensor, and the altitude was obtained by a ultra sonic sensor. Finally, the performance of the designed target tracking controller was evaluated through flight tests.

  • To predict long-term creep life from short-term creep life data, various parametric methods such as Larson-Mille. (L-M), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (O-S-D), Manson-Haferd (M-H) parameters, and a Minimum Commitment Method (MCM) were suggested. A number of the creep data were collected through literature surveys and experimental data produced in KAERI. The polynomial equations for type 316LN SS were obtained by the time-temperature parameters (TTP) and the MCM. Standard error (SE) and standard error of mean (SEM) values were obtained and compared with the each method for various temperatures. The TTP methods showed good creep-life prediction, but the MCM was much superior to the TTP ones at $700^{\circ}C$ and $750^{\circ}C$. It was found that the MCM were lower in the SE values when compared to the TTP methods.

  • A spectrofluorimetric method for the simultaneous determination of amino acids (tryptophan and tyrosine) based on the application of multivariate calibration method such as principal component regression and partial least squares (PLS) to luminescence measurements has been studied. Emission spectra of synthetic mixtures of two amino acids were obtained at excitation wavelength of 257 ㎚. The calibration model in PCR and PLS was obtained from the spectral data in the range of 280-500 ㎚ for each standard of a calibration set of 32 standards, each containing different amounts of two amino acids. The relative standard error of prediction ($RSEP_a$) was obtained to assess the model goodness in quantifying each analyte in a validation set. The overall relative standard error of prediction ($RSEP_m$) for the mixture obtained from the results of a validation set, formed by 6 independent mixtures was also used to validate the present method.

  • The purpose of the work is to develop a simple solar irradiance prediction model using a deep learning method, the LSTM (long term short term memory). Other than existing prediction models, the proposed one uses only the cloudiness among the information forecasted from the national meterological forecast center. The future cloudiness is generally announced with four categories and for three-hour intervals. In this work, a daily irradiance pattern is used as an input vector to the LSTM together with that cloudiness information. The proposed model showed an error of 5% for learning and 30% for prediction. This level of error has lower influence on the load prediction in typical building cases.

  • In this paper, we utilize a Gaussian process to predict the power consumption in the air-conditioning system. As the power consumption in the air-conditioning system takes a form of a time-series and the prediction of the power consumption becomes very important from the perspective of the efficient energy management, it is worth to investigate the time-series model for the prediction of the power consumption. To this end, we apply the Gaussian process to predict the power consumption, in which the Gaussian process provides a prior probability to every possible function and higher probabilities are given to functions that are more likely consistent with the empirical data. We also discuss how to estimate the hyper-parameters, which are parameters in the covariance function of the Gaussian process model. We estimated the hyper-parameters with two different methods (marginal likelihood and leave-one-out cross validation) and obtained a model that pertinently describes the data and the results are more or less independent of the estimation method of hyper-parameters. We validated the prediction results by the error analysis of the mean relative error and the mean absolute error. The mean relative error analysis showed that about 3.4% of the predicted value came from the error, and the mean absolute error analysis confirmed that the error in within the standard deviation of the predicted value. We also adopt the non-parametric Wilcoxon's sign-rank test to assess the fitness of the proposed model and found that the null hypothesis of uniformity was accepted under the significance level of 5%. These results can be applied to a more elaborate control of the power consumption in the air-conditioning system.

  • This paper deals with a novel utilization method of the predicted current in the high performance PI current controller with a control time delay. The inevitable error of the predicted current in the linear servo drive using a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor is analyzed and a modified cross-coupling decoupling synchronous frame PI current controller is proposed in order to improve the current control response under both the control time delay and the inevitable current prediction error. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current controller has an improved current control performance under both the control time delay and the inevitable current prediction error in the servo drive system.

  • This paper proposes a new and simple input prediction method for robust servo system. A robust tracking control system for optical disk drives was proposed recently based on both Coprime Factorization (CF) and Zero Phase Error Tracking (ZPET) control. The CF control system can be designed simply and systematically. Moreover, this system has not only stability but also robustness to parameter uncertainties and disturbance rejection capability. Since optical disk tracking servo system can detect only tracking error, it was proposed that the reference input signal for ZPET could be estimated from tracking errors. In this paper, we propose a new control structure for the ZPET controller. It requires less memory than the previously proposed method for the reference signal generation. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method is effective.
