  • In this study, the measurement system was developed for the measurement of pollutants from building materials, and specimens were made with concrete, gypsum board, mortar and wall paper. Characteristics of VOCs and TVOC concentration and Emission Factor as a function of time were assessed, and the conclusion was drawn as follows. (1) From predicting TVOC concentration decrease of specimen 7 with the wall paper attached to the concrete, the graph may become linear by converting the value of y-axis into the log function, and the prediction equation can be expressed as $y=34906{\ast}e^{-0.0093{\ast}time}$. Moreover, chi-square value was 0.83 which is relatively high value, indicating that TVOC concentration can be properly predicted if the same materials are used indoors. (2) From predicting VOCs Emission Factor decrease of specimen 7, the prediction equation can be expressed as $EF=15111{\ast}e^{-0.0093{\ast}time}$, and chi-square value was 0.83. (3) From predicting TVOC concentration decrease of specimen 7, prediction equation can be considered to be $y=254323{\ast}(1-e^{-0.1046{\ast}time})$, and chi-square was 0.994 which is significantly high value, indicating that indoor TVOC concentration can be properly predicted if the same materials are used indoors. Furthermore, the prediction of concentration decrease using cumulative value of hourly measured concentration is considered to be more accurate than that using just hourly measured value directly. (4) From predicting Emission Factor decrease with cumulative hourly data of Emission Factor, chi-square appeared to be higher than that by just using hourly data of Emission Factor directly. Therefore, the prediction of Emission Factor with cumulative hourly data can provide more reliable prediction equation than the case by using just hourly concentration directly.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the factors predicting HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccination practices among female college students. Methods: A convenience sample of 207 female students attending four universities in one metropolitan city participated. Self-report questionnaires consisted of general characteristics, characteristics related prevention of cervical cancer, knowledge of HPV, knowledge of cervical cancer vaccination, and health beliefs related to HPV vaccination. Data were analyzed by $x^2$ test, independent t-test, and bivariate logistic regression. Results: Factors predicting HPV vaccination practices were information about HPV (OR=3.37), experience of HPV test (OR=12.71), and health beliefs related to HPV vaccination (OR=1.13). Conclusion: In order to increase the practice rate of HPV vaccination, it is necessary to provide simple key information that is easy to understand, rather than expert knowledge about HPV. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a way for college students to get information about virus easily. It is necessary to intervene integrally with the facilitation factor and obstacle factor of vaccination practice.

  • The problem of predicting a ship's form factor and associated scale effects has been subject to many investigations in recent years. In this study, an attempt is made to investigate whether the form factor is influenced by a change in the ship's speed by numerically modelling a geosim series of the KCS hull form by means of a RANS solver. The turbulence dependence of the problem is also studied by altering the closure model among three widely used approaches (the k-𝜔, k-𝜔 SST, and k-𝜀 models). The results show that at very low speeds (Froude numbers in the range of 0.02-0.06) the numerical model predicts changes in the form factor of a ship between 10% and 20%, depending on the turbulence model and scale factor choices. As the speed is increased further, the form factor exhibits little change, usually in the range of 1% or less. Simulations where the Reynolds number is changed by approximately two orders of magnitude, achieved by altering the value of viscosity, confirmed that the form factor can be considered Froude-dependent only for low speeds, predicting essentially identical values when high speed cases are considered.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure respondent's demographic characteristics, respondent's attitudes toward chicken, and factor influencing on the level of perceived helpfulness of country of origin in predicting the quality of chicken. The data was collected through a consumer survey during the March 2006. A total number of 250 meat consumers living in Suncheon, the eastern part of Chonnam, were randomly selected as respondents. Eleven respondents did not complete the survey instrument, resulting in a final sample size of 239. All estimations were carried out using chi-square, correlation, and logistic procedure of SAS package. The results are as follows. The level of perceived helpfulness of country of origin in predicting the quality of chicken was significantly different by age and occupation of demographic variables, and was significantly correlated with respondent informed of attitude variables. The proportional odds assumption of model was not violated at p<0.05. The effects of income, occupation and respondent informed on the level of perceived helpfulness of country of origin in predicting the quality of chicken. The results from this study could be useful in developing marketing and health promotion strategies, as well as government trade policy.

  • In this research, multiple corrosion factors of buried environments were measured in order to establish a formula for the corrosion character of corrugated steel structures in domestic environments. By substituting corrosion factors for each predicting formula, the durable lifetime was measured, and the measured lifetime was compared with the estimated lifetime by applying existing thickness-measuring techniques. A new usage standard was proposed with these results, in order to create the conclusion below. There are known differences in the soil factors used as variables in estimating the duration caused by the seasonal effects of rainfall and temperature. Comparing the durable lifetime estimated by each predicting formula, the findings show that the California technique is conservative. This study demonstrates that the error range of the AISI technique, which is mostly used as a duration technique, is a very narrow predicting technique as compared with many other countries. Considering that there is on average, a 13% error margin in this study, a proposed safety factor of 0.87 could be used to more accurately predict the duration. The laying time in the California technique is not longer than the whole durability, and as a result, this error margin exists. It is concluded that this study on the open area has been overdue. Based on these findings, it's proposed that this error margin should be applied to the domestic environment through periodic observation, in order to establish the predicting techniques of durable lifetime.

  • An accurate system for predicting the survival of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) will be useful for selecting appropriate therapies. A nomogram for predicting survival was constructed from 96 patients with primary OSCC who underwent surgical resection between January 1994 and June 2003 at the Yonsei Dental Hospital in Seoul, Korea. We performed univariate and multivariate Cox regression to identify survival prognostic factors. For the early stage patients group, the nomogram was able to predict the 5 and 10 year survival from OSCC with a concordance index of 0.72. The total point assigned by the nomogram was a significant factor for predicting survival. This nomogram was able to accurately predict the survival after treatment of an individual patient with OSCC and may have practical utility for deciding adjuvant treatment.
