  • A drum clutch which is a main part for the automatic transmission of auto-mobiles has been manufactured by glob threading and machining. The tooth shape of the drum clutch manufactured by machining has lower dimensional accuracy than that by pressing and its machining needs the enormous cost at plant investment. Thus, this study was designed to develop cold forging process and to improve the productivity and dimensional accuracy. In this work, variables affecting dimensional accuracy were first determined, then cold forming process design according to each variables was performed by FE simulation. Optimal process was suggested on the basis of analytical results.

  • Deformation of the specimens was investigated on hydrogen absorption-desorption cycling. In order to study this problem, the cold rolled and the annealed palladium thin plate as specimens had been used. By using the electrochemical method, the palladium plate specimens were cyclically hydrogenated in the 0.1mol $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte. As results, it is noted that the thickness of the plate specimens gradually increased in increasing hydrogenation cycles whereas the width and the length decreased. Also, Deformation of the cold rolled palladium specimen was lager than the annealed palladium specimen. And grains in the plate specimen were greatly deformed after hydrogenation cycling. But hydrogen absorption rate scarcely changed.

  • Gears are the most commonly used parts in automotive and industrial applications. One of most common modes of gear failures is tooth breakage, which is usually produced by the bending fatigue failure. It is important to manufacture the gears which can withstand the applied stresses in view of safety and economic requirement. This paper deals with bending fatigue strength for cold forged bevel gear. Especially, to compare fatigue characteristics for manufacturing processes difference, bending fatigue tests of bevel gears made by three different processes respectively. Results indicate that the fatigue strength of bevel gear is improved by cold forging process. Intergranular fracture is found on fatigue fracture surface, and dimples are observed on final fracture surface. The fatigue failure cannot be considered as a deterministic quantity, but must be characterized statistically. This study proposes a method to estimate bending fatigue lift of the bevel gear using the probability-load-life and Weibull analysis.

  • It is already known that hardness number of cold-forged product is in close conjunction with its effective strain. This paper presents the method to predict the relation between effective strains and hardness by using FE-simulation of hardness test from the conception that hardness indicates resistance to plastic deformation. The results of FE-simulation for the materials are compared with those of experiments and also compared with those of experiments in reference to show the feasibility of the proposed method. In addition, the present method was applied to the cold-forged product to verify the relation between hardness and effective strain. As a result, the predicted hardness number by the present method is in good agreement with experimental values. Prediction of hardness fur a cold-forged product comes to be possible by estimating the relation between effective strain and hardness using the proposed method in this study.

  • The environmental problems by using coolant demanded the new cooling methods. As one of them the studies on the dry grinding with compressed cold air have been done. The cooling method using compressed cold air was effdve thmugh going down the temperature of compressed air supplied below $-25^{\circ}C$ and inneasing the amount of mmpresd cold air, but had not enough cooling effect due to the low performance of lubrication. Therefore, the cooling methods using MQL(Minimum Quantity Lubrication) or mist newly were suggested. These two methods can satisfy both cooling effect and lubrication with only small amount of coolant, also has the benefit in the point of decreasing the envimnmental pollution. This paper focused on analyzing the grindmg characteristics of the cooling method using mid. The generated heat and grinding force of the cooling method using mist were compared with them of coolant and compressed cold air. And them grinding test according to the temperature of compressed cold air, mist spray amount and mist supply direction were done.

  • Cold gas dynamic spray or cold-spray is a deposition process, which causes deformation of a thin substrate. The deformation is usually convex to the deposited side. In this research, the main cause of the deformation was investigated using 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. The effects or anisotropic coefficient or thermal expansion (CTE) or the deposited layer by cold-spray and residual stress were studied by experiments and finite element analysis. The Hole Drilling method was applied to measure residual stress in the cold-spray layer and substrate. The data obtained by the experiments were used for the analysis of substrate deformation. From the result of the analysis, it was concluded that compressive residual stress was the main reason of substrate deformation while CTE had little effect.

  • Precision forging of gears has a lot of advantages when compared to conventional gear shaping, because it allows the manufacture of gear parts without flash and consequently without the need for subsequent machining operations. In this study, the cold forging process is determined to manufacture the cold forged product for the precision clutch gear used of a commercial automobile, To do this, shape ratio of initial shape having influence the forgeability of forged product is analyzed. The optimal initial shape of clutch gear is designed using the results of DEFORM-3D and the artificial neural network (ANN). The initial shape through the detail analysis results, such as metal flow, distributions of strain can be obtained.

  • The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at various panels(cold rolled steel sheets, galvanized steel sheets, electrogalvanized coating steel sheets, electrogalvanized Zn-Fe alloy steel sheets and aluminum alloy steel sheets). Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by the nature of zinc coating.
