For a precise position control with the resolution of a micrometer, a dual servo system is constructed using a linear motor and a piezoelectric actuator. The switching mode dual servo algorithm is implemented on a DSP board in which A/D and D/A converters are also mounted. It is shown by the experimental results that the precise position control is performed within a few micrometer of position error by using the dual servo system.
In this paper, we develop the displacement measurement system of multiple moving objects based on image processing techniques. The image processing method adopts inertia moment theory for obtaining the centroid measurement of the targets and basic processing algorithm of gray, binary, closing, labeling and so on. To get precise displacement measurement in spite of multiple moving targets, a CGD camera with zoom is used and the position of camera is changed by a pan/tilt system. The fiducial marks on the fixed positions are used as the sensing points for the image processing to recognize the position errors in direction of XY-coordinates. The precise alignment device is pan/tilt of XY-type and the pan/tilt is controlled by DC servomotors which are driven by a microprocessor. Morover, the centers of fiducial marks are obtainted by an inertia moment method. By applying the developed precise position control system for multiple targets, the displacement of multiple moving targets are detected automatically and are also stored in the database system in a real time. By using database system and internet, the displacement datum can be confirmed at a great distance and analyzed. Finally, the effectiveness of developed system is shown in experimental results and realized the precision about 0.12[mm] in the position control of XY-coordinates.
In this paper, a precise trajectory tracking method for mobile robot using a vision system is presented. In solving the problem of precise trajectory tracking, a hierarchical control structure is used which is composed of the path planer, vision system, and dynamic controller. When designing the dynamic controller, non-ideal conditions such as parameter variation, frictional force, and external disturbance are considered. The proposed controller can learn bounded control input for repetitive or periodic dynamics compensation which provides robust and adaptive learning capability. Moreover, the usage of vision system makes mobile robot compensate the cumulative location error which exists when relative sensor like encoder is used to locate the position of mobile robot. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is shown through computer simulation.
Two-wheeled driying mobild robots are precise controlled in terms of linear contol methods without considering the nonlinear dynamical characteristics. However, in the high maneuvering situations such as fast turn and abrupt start and stop, such neglected terms become dominant and heavy influence the overall driving performance. This study describes the nonlinear optimal control method to take advantage of the exact nonlinear dynamics of the balancing robot. Simulation results indicate that the optimal control outperforms in the respect of transient performance and required wheel torques. A design example is suggested for the state matrix that provides design flexibility in the control. It is shown that a well-planned state matrix by reflecting the physics of a balancing robot greatly conrtibutes to the driving performance and stability.

Efficient control of a marine engine requires an engine control unit (ECU) system that handles fast and precise signal processes for in-coming and out-going signals from fast running engines. In order to handle these roles, the sequential control has been adapted in the ECU system in small and medium size ship engines, which has caused high production cost and complexity of the system. Hence, this paper is focused on developing an distributed ECU system for high speed and high precision control of a marine engine by efficiently combining a CPLD chip and a microprocessor. By sharing load at the MCU with the designed CPLD chip, we could achieve in driving a marine engine with high speed and precise control so that the ECU board has been simplified and its production cost has been reduced.
A precise tracking control scheme on the system in presence of nonlinear dynamic friction is proposed. In this control scheme, the standard SMC is combined with the nonlinear observer to estimate the dynamic friction state that is impossible to measure. Then this control scheme has the good tracking performance and the robustness to parameter variation compared with the standard SMC and the PiD based nonlinear observer control system. This fact is proved by the experiment on the ball-screw driven servo system with the dynamic friction model.
This paper deals with a precise position synchronous control of two axes rotating systems by a cooperative control method. The system's dynamics including motor drives described by a motor circuit equation and Newton's kinetic formulation about rotating system. Current and speed controllers are designed very simply by conventional PID control law. Also, position synchronous controller designed to minimize position errors according to integration of speed errors between two motors. Then, the proposed control enables the distributed drives by a software control algorithm to behave in a way as if they are mechanically hard coupled in axes. Finally, the validity of the proposed system is confirmed through some simulations and experiments.
This study was conducted to develop an automatic nutrient-solution control system for small-scale growers. The nutrient-solution control system consisted of a low-cost and precise metering device and a personal computer. The system controlled electric conductivity(EC) and pH of nutrient-solution based on the time-based feedback control method with the information about temperature, EC, and pH of the nutrient-soIution. The performance of the nutrient-solution control system was evaluated through the control of EC and pH while compared with those of commercial nutrient-solution control system. Also an experimental cultivation of tomato was conducted to verify and to improve the developed system. Results of this study were as follows. 1. An automatic nutrient-solution control system based on a low-cost and precise metering device was developed. 2. The developed system controlled EC and pH within $\pm$0.05 mS/cm and $\pm$0.2 pH full scale error respectively at $24^{/circ}C$. 3. When using the commercial system, the controlled values of EC and pH of the 500l of water were 1.29 mS/cm and 6.1 pH for the setting points of 1.4 mS/cm and 6.0 pH respectively at $22^{/circ}C$. 4. The developed nutrient-solution control system showed $\pm$0.05 mS/cm of deviation from the setting EC value over the experimental cultivation period. 5. The deviation from the average values of Ca and Mg mass content in the several nutrient-solution were 0.5% and 1.8% respectively.
A numerical formula that presents relationship between a point of a satellite image and its ground position is called a sensor model. For precise geolocation of satellite images, we need an error-free sensor model. However, the sensor model based on GOES ephemeris data has some error, in particular after Image Motion Compensation (IMC) mechanism has been turned off. To solve this problem, we investigate three sensor models: Collinearity model, Direct Linear Transform (DLT) model and Orbit-based model. We apply matching between GOES images and global coastline database and use successful results as control points. With control points we improve the initial image geolocation accuracy using the three models. We compare results from three sensor models that are applied to GOES-9 images. As a result, a suitable sensor model for precise geolocation of GOES-9 images is proposed.
