The issues associated with the application of CFD for ship design are addressed. Doubtlessly at the moment, CFD tools are very useful in evaluating hull forms prior to traditional towing tank tests. However, time-consuming pre-processing is an obstacle in the daily application of CFD tools to improve hull forms. The accuracy of computational modeling without sacrificing the usability of CFD system is also to be assessed. The wave generation is still predicted by using potential panel methods, while velocity profiles entering into propeller plane is solved using turbulent flow solvers. The choice of turbulence model is a key to predict nominal wake distribution within acceptable accuracy. The experimental data for CFD validation are invaluable to improve physical and numerical modeling. Other applications of CFD for ship design than hull form improvement are also given. It is certain that CFD can be a cost-effective tool for the design of new and better ships.

Horizontal displacement of slurry wall with strut is analyzed using 2-D numerical stress-displacement program, FLAC. Validation of the program results are performed using the pre- and ongoing excavation sections and further displacement is predicted in the stage of strut removal. The result show that the calculated displacement was very close to the measured displacement when 40% in-situ strut preloading is applied to the strut loading of the program considering the horizontal spacing of struts in the field. It was found that construction efficiency can be improved by partially removing the struts before putting slabs in the stage of subway structure construction.
The issues associated with the application of CFD for ship design are addressed. The outer tank of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank is a longitudinally and meridianally pre-stressed concrete (PSC) wall structure. Because of the current trend of constructing larger LNG storage tanks, the pre-stressing forces required to increase wall strength must be significantly increased. Because of the increase in tank sizes and pre-stressing forces, an extreme loading scenario such as a bomb blast or an airplane crash needs to be investigated. Therefore, in this study, the blast resistance performance of LNG storage tanks was analyzed by conducting a blast simulation to investigate the safety of larger LNG storage tanks. Test data validation for a blast simulation of reinforced concrete panels was performed using a specific FEM code, LS-DYNA, prior to a full-scale blast simulation of the outer tank of a 270,000-kL LNG storage tank. Another objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and serviceability of an LNG storage tank with respect to varying amounts of explosive charge. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the design and safety evaluation of PSC LNG storage tanks.

A definitive diagnosis to classify the breast malignancy status may be achieved by microscopic analysis using surgical open biopsy. However, this procedure requires experts in the specializing of histopathological image analysis directing to time-consuming and high cost. To overcome these issues, deep learning is considered practically efficient to categorize breast cancer into benign and malignant from histopathological images in order to assist pathologists. This study presents a pre-trained convolutional neural network model architecture with a 100% fine-tuning scheme and Adagrad optimizer to classify the breast cancer histopathological images into benign and malignant using a 40× magnification BreaKHis dataset. The pre-trained architecture was constructed using the InceptionResNetV2 model to generate a modified InceptionResNetV2 by substituting the last layer with dense and dropout layers. The results by demonstrating training loss of 0.25%, training accuracy of 99.96%, validation loss of 3.10%, validation accuracy of 99.41%, test loss of 8.46%, and test accuracy of 98.75% indicated that the modified InceptionResNetV2 model is reliable to predict the breast malignancy type from histopathological images. Future works are necessary to focus on k-fold cross-validation, optimizer, model, hyperparameter optimization, and classification on 100×, 200×, and 400× magnification.

Objective: Clinical outcomes of patients who undergo transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for single small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are not consistent, and may differ based on certain imaging findings. This retrospective study was aimed at determining the efficacy of pre-TACE CT or MR imaging findings in predicting survival outcomes in patients with small HCC upon being treated with TACE. Besides, the study proposed to build a risk prediction model for these patients. Materials and Methods: Altogether, 750 patients with functionally good hepatic reserve who received TACE as the first-line treatment for single small HCC between 2004 and 2014 were included in the study. These patients were randomly assigned into training (n = 525) and validation (n = 225) sets. Results: According to the results of a multivariable Cox analysis, three pre-TACE imaging findings (tumor margin, tumor location, enhancement pattern) and two clinical factors (age, serum albumin level) were selected and scored to create predictive models for overall, local tumor progression (LTP)-free, and progression-free survival in the training set. The median overall survival time in the validation set were 137.5 months, 76.1 months, and 44.0 months for low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups, respectively (p < 0.001). Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curves of the predictive models for overall, LTP-free, and progression-free survival applied to the validation cohort showed acceptable areas under the curve values (0.734, 0.802, and 0.775 for overall survival; 0.738, 0.789, and 0.791 for LTP-free survival; and 0.671, 0.733, and 0.694 for progression-free survival at 3, 5, and 10 years, respectively). Conclusion: Pre-TACE CT or MR imaging findings could predict survival outcomes in patients with small HCC upon treatment with TACE. Our predictive models including three imaging predictors could be helpful in prognostication, identification, and selection of suitable candidates for TACE in patients with single small HCC.

Determining blood loss [100% - RBV (%)] is challenging in the management of haemorrhagic shock. We derived an equation estimating RBV (%) via serial haematocrits (Hct1, Hct2) by fixing infused crystalloid fluid volume (N) as [0.015 × body weight (g)]. Then, we validated it in vivo. Mathematically, the following estimation equation was derived: RBV (%) = 24k / [(Hct1 / Hct2) -1]. For validation, non-ongoing haemorrhagic shock was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by withdrawing 20.0%-60.0% of their total blood volume (TBV) in 5.0% intervals (n = 9). Hct1 was checked after 10 min and normal saline N cc was infused over 10 min. Hct2 was checked five minutes later. We applied a linear equation to explain RBV (%) with 1 / [(Hct1 / Hct2) -1]. Seven rats losing 30.0%-60.0% of their TBV suffered shock persistently. For them, RBV (%) was updated as 5.67 / [(Hct1 / Hct2) -1] + 32.8 (95% confidence interval [CI] of the slope: 3.14-8.21, p = 0.002, R2 = 0.87). On a Bland-Altman plot, the difference between the estimated and actual RBV was 0.00 ± 4.03%; the 95% CIs of the limits of agreements were included within the pre-determined criterion of validation (< 20%). For rats suffering from persistent, non-ongoing haemorrhagic shock, we derived and validated a simple equation estimating RBV (%). This enables the calculation of blood loss via information on serial haematocrits under a fixed N. Clinical validation is required before utilisation for emergency care of haemorrhagic shock.
A robotic external fixation system for the surgery of bone deformity correction was developed to simulate the execution process of mal-unioned femur by the adjustment of the joints of the fixation system. An inverse kinematics analysis algorithm was developed to calculate the necessary rotations and translations at each joint of the robotic system. The computer graphic model was developed for validation of the analysis result and visualization of the surgical process. For given rotational and angular deformity case, the surgical execution process using the robotic system was well matched with the pre-operative planning. The final residual rotational deformities were within $1.0^{\circ}{\sim}1.6^{\circ}$ after surgical correction process. The presented robotic system with computer-aided planning can be useful for knowledge-based fracture treatment and bone deformity correction under external fixation.
The purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility and validity of the Application of Cognitive Function Scale as developed by Lidz and Jepsen (1997). Data were collected from 4 to 5-years-old children. The analysis for item adequacy indicated that the passing rate increases according to age. Futhermore the analysis for test adequacy indicated that internal consistency reliability was .85 in the pre-test and .80 of post-test in terms of the cognitive function scale, and .90 of pre-test and .93 in the post-test in relation to the behavior observation scale. In conclusion, our analysis of the ACFS shows sufficiently high scores in terms of both validity and reliability, so as to indicate that this test is an appropriate way to measure the cognitive function and non-intellective function of young Korean children.

Motivation: Protein-protein interaction plays a critical role in the biological processes. The identification of interacting proteins by bioinformatical methods can provide new lead In the functional studies of uncharacterized proteins without performing extensive experiments. Results: Protein-protein interactions are predicted by a computational algorithm based on the weighted scoring system for domain interactions between interacting protein pairs. Here we propose potential interaction domain (PID) pairs can be extracted from a data set of experimentally identified interacting protein pairs. where one protein contains a domain and its interacting protein contains the other. Every combinations of PID are summarized in a matrix table termed the PID matrix, and this matrix has proposed to be used for prediction of interactions. The database of interacting proteins (DIP) has used as a source of interacting protein pairs and InterPro, an integrated database of protein families, domains and functional sites, has used for defining domains in interacting pairs. A statistical scoring system. named "PID matrix score" has designed and applied as a measure of interaction probability between domains. Cross-validation has been performed with subsets of DIP data to evaluate the prediction accuracy of PID matrix. The prediction system gives about 50% of sensitivity and 98% of specificity, Based on the PID matrix, we develop a system providing several interaction information-finding services in the Internet. The system, named PreDIN (Prediction-oriented Database of Interaction Network) provides interacting domain finding services and interacting protein finding services. It is demonstrated that mapping of the genome-wide interaction network can be achieved by using the PreDIN system. This system can be also used as a new tool for functional prediction of unknown proteins.
